There Will Be Blood

Post by MgoBlue-LightSpecial »

I really want to see this. It's being advertised as a 12/26 release date, but no theaters in my area are showing it. WTF? January mainstream release, perhaps?

I've been looking forward to it too.

I saw No Country for Old Men and thought it was great. The OL thought it was too violent and was pissed off that it ended the way it did. I think I may leave her home for There Will Be Blood.

Just finished reading the reviews on this one. Movie will draw based on the title alone.

[zysdale]This is from somebody "in the industry." Take it for what it's worth:
In order to be considered for Oscar noms, it had to be released in "key" markets by Dec 31. It is tentatively set for mainstream release in 2008 and looks to be in Detroit on Jan 11. However, depending on how it does in limited, it might be sooner and it might be later. It won't be before Dec 29, as Paramount has worked a deal with 12 theaters in US and Canada for a special engagement screening. That will be honored before any nationwide release is even considered. Honestly, it could very well be on Netflix before you get to see it.

It's a great market tool and the timing is perfect. It is garnering so much hype right now and is currently the "must-see" movie, especially following No Country for Old Men. It is sure to be sold out as soon as it goes nationwide"

Daniel Day Lewis was pretty damn engaging in this. I really enjoyed it. Hopefully it will hit theaters all over soon.

DDL was great in that. Gangs was laughable bad the last half-hour.

I know I dropped this rant before, but shit, how did he fuck up the William Cutting/5 Points story so damn bad? There's probably no more fertile ground for some Americana storytelling that that.

I finally got around to seeing this movie. DDL was bad ass. I thought Paul/Eli and the young HW were solid too.

Finally watched this. Loved it...Lewis was, of course, incredible. The parts with the son really hit me in the gut. I loved seeing the preacher get his comeuppance

I guess I would agree with that take. I feel no need to watch the movie again. With one viewing, the overboard approach is palatable...but it wouldn't survive a second.

What sort of "sense" are you looking for? It's just a movie. I don't need the dots to be connected for me to enjoy a film. Here we have a film about an oilman in the late 1800s drunk on power and arrogance, which oddly leads to a preacher getting the fuckpiss kicked out of him in one of the more epic scenes I've seen in a while. What's not to love?

I've been wanting to see this, but haven't.

I'm pretty much with mv -- overly slick production, and contrived "edginess" in the cinematography will get my eyes closed and me snoring in no time.

To me, that's just an admission by the director/production/editing staff that even they know their movie sucks.

But I'll make that judgement for myself when I get a chance.

i thought it was pretty good. but, i will say that after all the hype and even from "smart people" i was a little disappointed with TWBB and No Country for Old Men....after hearing they were both instant, drop dead the "new art begins now" and the zeitgeist in a bottle type classics. they were both very good films; but, hardly in the same league with Network or Raging Bull or 2001 or something.

I agree. No Country was a fine enough movie, I thought...but it was not exceptional, rather it was a faithful rendering of the book.

I hope the payday allows Cormac McCarthy to write another couple of books. I doubt he's long for this earth.

I was disappointed with “There Will Be Blood”. I thought it was going to be about cinderella_undercover/Ana Ng.

No Country, after seeing it a second time became one of my favorite movies. It's kinda how I felt about the final Sopranos episode. I had to watch it about 4 times to really understand it all. And one I did understand it, it became one of my favorite episodes of the entire series.
