Driver arrested after alleged road-rage incident against cyclist
Posted by Helen Jung, The Oregonian July 14, 2008 14:00PM
Categories: Cycling, Top Stories
Portland police arrested a 21-year-old man suspected of chasing down a cyclist Sunday and driving off at a high rate of speed -- with the cyclist hanging onto the hood.

James F. Millican was arrested on attempted second-degree assault, driving under the influence of intoxicants, third-degree criminal mischief and reckless driving.

According to a police account, the incident began when the cyclist, Jason Scott Rehnberg, 37, yelled at Millican to slow down as they were traveling near Southeast 58th Avenue and Washington Street, police said. Rehnberg told police that "his remarks may have included profanity," according to a news release.

The newfound bravado of the militant-cyclist crowd (recent transplants, every last one of them-btw) is fucking hilarious.

A group of fun-hating homosexuals with nothing more than a thin plastic shield/fagflag on their head and a pair of extremely unflattering spandex shorts suddenly think that if they find solidarity, they can kick ass all over heterosexual grown men in 3000 pound automobiles.

Awesome.

This has been great local entertainment... and I've yet to stop for a "Bike Box" downtown... fuck you, faggot city council (although the head faggot is the mayor-elect... glad I'm "over-the-border"... just barely).

most of the people i ride around with are from oregon, if not portland itself. like all you wankers bitching about $57/gallon gas can't appreciate someone [1] not being morbidly obese and [2] riding a bike the 10 blocks to work rather than idling in the gridlock you'd be bitching about were all the bikers sat down in cars instead.

that said, if life's halfway decent, enjoy it. there are other ways to justify your existence aside from being oppressed by cars, as i've heard. the road's big enough - especially in pdx with clearly demarcated bike lanes - for both cars and bikes that both sides should stfu.

For one, I seriously doubt the Natives you speak of are militant biker-rights fags. Portland bikers have been Portland bikers for a looooong time, this "I own the road" movement is new. The Natives used to make their point once a month at Critical Mass.

But I agree, the road is plenty big. And the city/Metro spends plenty on areas just for bikes/pedestrians... like Springwater Corridor, for example. So big, in fact, that a bunch of homos in tights should shut their fucking mouths, use the designated lanes, AND OBEY THE FUCKING TRAFFIC LAWS.

Pretty much every one of these recent "road rage" events that have dominated the local news (which has been grossly irresponsible, and has engaged in extremely one-sided journalism, except in the case of the Oregonian reporting that the dude who got beat with the bike... well, he all but had it coming) has come about after THE CYCLIST pissed someone off when they disobeyed a basic traffic law and caused a near-collision.

ALL OF THEM.

Yet this fuckfaced biker crowd has the gall to go on the offensive?

Fucking transplants. This ain't quite the same town I grew up in. Back in The Day, you cut someone off with your bike, you better fucking keep your mouth shut, and you sure the fuck didn't antagonize your victim afterwards... just wouldn't have been good for your health.

BTW-I'll be leaving my vehicles at home and purchasing a day pass for the Big Orange Taxi... which hasn't been orange for many, many years. Although I might have to transfer from the Orange Taxi onto the Ghetto Express.

THAT'S IT!!!! Whenever I see Militant Bike Faggot, I'm going to stop them and ask them if they know what the Big Orange Taxi is. If they don't know...

KAPOW!!!!

Enjoy your stay on the pavement, Faggot Fun Hater on your mountain bike.

I do my commute on some rather bike unfriendly roads. Shoulders? pffftttt. We don't need no fukking road shoulders.

You fukkers out west bend over backwards to make roads bike friendly. Any fukking spandex clad cocksucker that still manages to get in the way of cagers needs to have his carbon fiber fork jamed up his arse sideways.

Dude... they block rural roads.

This strange group of dweebs has decided that cars don't have right-of-way, ever.

But how seriously can you take anyone's "revolution," when the opposing side's official uniform involves yellow spandex?

Spandex-wearing-faggot got mouthy and decided he was going to appoint himself a police officer (while our laws certainly include provisions for citizens' arrests, a person actually has to be guilty of a crime first).

Dude then decided his flesh was good enough to stop an angered driver.

UnRACK Darwin on this one -- he swung and missed.

I have absolutely no sympathy for these transplant idiots who think they're redefining how the roads here are used. I'm from here... I paid for them, motherfucker. Just try and keep me from usuing them, faggot.

There's a war brewing in this town... and highly comical and very one-sided results are sure to ensue.

BTW-I've personally witnessed militant cyclists getting their comeuppance MUCH worse than that.

And there's a subset of Faggot Fun Haters that don't just disobey the traffic laws -- the disobey the equipment laws that say you need to have brakes on a bicycle. But the Fixie crowd thinks they're above any and all laws... but boy, don't let them catch wind of you making one wrong move in a car. That's the selfish thought process these asshats bring to my town.

Run every last one of the faggots over, I say. Clear out some room for bike commuters that actually are willing to share the road, as rare as they are these days.

A few years back I pull up to a busy intersection ready to make a right turn. I look left and it's clear, so I pull forward and start to turn and BLAM... some dumbfuck kid on a bike traveling east in the west bound lanes flips over the hood of my car.

Fortunately, other than a few bumps and bruises, the kid wasn't seriously hurt, but he acted as is if it were my fault. Stupid punk.

Millican was arraigned today on charges of second-degree kidnapping (presumably for the ride on the car) DUII, Reckless Driving and second-degree criminal mischief.

The next court date is July 22. Millican asked the judge: "So I have to stay in jail now...for a whole week?"

Of course..none of the articles mentioned the fact that dude that was the hood ornament needed to blow off steam...so he went "zoobombing" which is where all those fag cocksucker bike riders go up to the zoo, get on the little bikes the 10 year olds ride and haul ass form the zoo through Washington park, generally ignoring all rules ...I for one am hoping one finally hits a car/wall/house/bus and suffers massive aortal detatchment and compound fractures, and closed head injury and ends up in that new MX office in Wilsonville...serves the faggots right.

A bike courier on his way home from work got into a scuffle Tuesday night with a man riding in a car who yelled at him for not wearing a helmet.

The North Portland confrontation, the third bizarre road-rage conflict in recent weeks, occurred about 6:30 p.m. It ended with police citing the bicyclist on criminal mischief, and arresting the car passenger, who works for the downtown Bike Gallery, on a second-degree assault accusation.

According to police and witnesses, Adam Lewis Leckie, 23, was riding his bike north on North Mississippi when Patrick McNeil Schrepping, 30, shouted: "Wear your helmet!" from a car heading south.

Schrepping told police he was in a car borrowed from a friend. While parking along the street, he said, Leckie rode past, scratching the length of the driver's door with a key.

Schrepping and his friend stopped to eat at a nearby restaurant. About 10 minutes later, they spotted Leckie ride by again.

Schrepping told police he stepped into the street to stop Leckie. Leckie said Schrepping yelled at him, and they got into a fight. Witnesses saw the men punching each other.

At one point, Leckie's bike lock fell. Schrepping told police Leckie grabbed for it, but he got it first and hit Leckie in the head.

The men were wrestling for the lock when witness Justin Wheeler, 34, stepped in to break up the fight. Soon police arrived.

Leckie suffered about a 1-inch gash in the back of his head. Paramedics suggested he get stitches, but he declined to go to a hospital.

Leckie, who has described himself on an Internet profile as a "bike punk" (which he called outdated), said today he regretted his actions. He said he usually wears a helmet but had taken it off that hot night to cool down.

"I had a bad day and lost my temper," Leckie said. "That was definitely a poor decision."

But he said he didn't damage the car much and didn't deserve what he got.

Schrepping did not return messages seeking comment.

A cyclist smashed a window of a TriMet bus in Portland today in the latest skirmish between a driver and a bicyclist.

The incident happened on Southeast 39th, where a No. 75 bus was traveling north and stopped at Hawthorne. Peggy LaPoint, a TriMet spokeswoman said the cyclist pulled in front of the bus as if there were a bike box there.

"The operator waved and motioned for the cyclist to move to the side," LaPoint said. The cyclist moved over and when the light changed the bus moved on to the next stop, at Main. At that point the cyclist, who was a male, smashed the window next to the door with his fist, causing it to fracture, she said.

No words were ever exchanged with the cyclist, she said.

Police were called and while the bus was waiting for officers to arrive, the cyclist took off.

LaPoint said another cyclist pedaled next to the driver's window and yelled at the driver while the bus was waiting for police.

That cyclist took off as well. No one was arrested and eventually the bus continued on its way.

Just another week in the U&L Capital.

tht first faggit didn't get quite enough stitches, imo. So, what if some do gooder helmet nazi tells you to put on your lid? Tell him to go fukk himself or maybe ask him if he feels like putting it on for him. But don't do a drive by keying. That is just cause to administer a nice bike lock beat down.

The next one with the bus, I don't know what to make of. Seems like Trimet needs to buy beefier windows and maybe a few bikers need to get mushed under a set of bus tires.

What is this bike box thing, btw?

The bike box is an intersection safety design to prevent bicycle/car collisions, especially those between drivers turning right and bicyclists going straight. It is a green box on the road with a white bicycle symbol inside. It includes green bicycle lanes approaching and leading from the box.

Since the bikerdouches absolutely refuse to obey traffic laws, the city just waved the white flag, and made it not only legal, but encouraged for bikefags to cut in front of all the cars and get pole position at the light.

Wayyyyyyyyyyy gay.
