George Brett takes Goose Gossage deeep.
I watched that live and in living color on my Zenith, and I was only going slightly less beserk than was George.
Amazing that over his entire HoF career, that's what he's most remembered for when that should have been only a sidenote. I'll remember his upper deck shot off Goose in the 1980 ALCS that finally drove a dagger in the heart of the evil empire more fondly.
Ah yes... the days before MLB went insane with ridiculous salaries and there was more or less an even playing field.
Fuck, but here I am left only with memories of the Royals glory days, knowing full well I'll probably never see them again.
Meanwhile, my daughter (who's an even bigger diehard than myself) has never seen them get a sniff of a pennant race.
Death, taxes, and the Royals sucking. This is my lot in life.

Tim is a douchebag, plain and simple. That's most likely why the league ruled against him. That's not my Royal bias here (shit, the game occured when I was 2 years old), it's more of me being anti- Tim McClelland. I have no respect for that guy. Not as an ump, but as a person. He's a fucking douchebag.

Sorry, it's the only song I know.Mace wrote:Oh PLEASE.....spare us the sad fuckin' song.
And if Brett's bat was illegal, it was illegal long before that at bat.
So why wait until that particular moment to call him on it?
Selective rule enforcement?
Maybe they should have busted him after a ground ball out to 2nd... or before he even stepped in the batters box.
The league made the right call... Royals WIN!

I sort of know Tim personally, but not very well. Met him in passing quite few times and had maybe 3-4 actual conversations with the guy. We worked for the same radio station. He still does an offseason baseball show in Des Moines and has been a regular guest on sports talk radio in DSM for many years.
I don't have any respect for an umpire/ref like him. He's got no sack whatsoever. I could show the guy video evidence of one of his fellow umps fucking up and he'd still deny it. He gets too defensive. I don't necessarily have a problem with him as an ump, just as a person. Have absolutely no respect for his type. I'm not going to go into detail on what I'm talking about, so I'll leave it at that.

Not sure what you mean? I don't have the right to decide if I respect a person? Nice take, dickweed.

Actually, a little bit of it I did. You see, when you work with someone you can't exactly say what's on your mind all the time. He knows I disagreed with certain things he said and I'm pretty certain he dislikes me for it. Not that I care. Let's just say if Tim ever walked near me again, he'd probably just ignore me and wouldn't acknowledge me. That is, assuming he actually remembers me.
