2008 has to be Joe Paterno's final season. Let's hope there isn't cause for him to be removed sooner than that...but it wouldn't surprise me.
Fuck this bullshit - enough is enough.

Re: PSU OTL
17 arrests and 72 counts last year for Penn State. Ouch. Pretty similar to what's gone on in Iowa City. Fortunately, for Penn State the media in PA actually has something else to cover (ie Pro sports, other college teams) and so it won't get as ugly for JoePa as it has for Ferentz or did for Alford a few years back.
Re: PSU OTL
To say that PSU isn't covered closely by PA media is to give life to a falsehood. I guess I see your point that scrutiny might be more concentrated in Iowa, though.

Re: PSU OTL
I didn't say PSU isn't covered closely in PA. They are. But in Iowa it's just ridiculous. Sports media in Iowa is the worst I've ever seen. The writers are tards, and the crap they cover is a joke. Iowa has and always will get more coverage than Iowa State, but with that comes more scrutiny. When their basketball program had double the amount of arrests as Iowa in a 2-3 year span and less players graduating, it was Iowa that took the heat for arrests and flunkouts not ISU.
Zach Johnson, Shawn Johnson, and the fucking gay ass Drake Relays get more coverage in Iowa than the Yankees/Red Sox get on ESPN!
When Ferentz takes a dump, it's printed in the Des Moines Rag errrrr Register or in the Iowa City Puss-Citizen. And my favorite part of Iowa media is how they cover "Iowans" after they leave the state and play pro ball or do something on a national scale. Except, they'll pretty much claim anyone that ever took a dump in an Iowa convenient store bathroom as an "Iowan". For example, they have a weekly listing of "Iowans in the Majors" and they include basically anyone that spent a semester at any state JUCO and they'll update his stats weekly for the rest of their career. I swear, after Zach Johnson won the Master's, even though he's a Hawkeye fan, I wanted to fight the guy. I started rooting against him. Shit, even before he won the Master's there were daily articles about him ON THE FRONT PAGE of the sports section.
So imagine being a player or coach of the Hawkeyes men's basketball or football team. Every little mistake or minor incident you have will be talked about statewide non-stop for the next month and printed in the newspapers on the front page everyday until they run out of fucking ink! They will print anything negative about Iowa, even if it's not true or they don't use reliable sources. That's how the media works here. No class, no integrity, and a bunch of fucking douchebags with no talent.

PSU has become mid90's Neb with fewer wins and more spin. TO has since realized and admitted that he mishandled the thugs back then. Hope Joe will opens his eyes before he flushes his legacy down the toilet.

Wazzu's had a similar run of problems over the last few years with Grampa Doba. I guess it's hard to keep tabs on your players when you're in bed by 7:30.

The Des Moines Rag is shit. I did see they ran a nice piece about how Charlie Weiss says Ferentz is great for helping out the tornado victims.
Re: PSU OTL
Try having a hated rival less than 15 miles away, USC and UCLA are constantly throwing eachother under the bus as the media in a pro franchise-less city takes sides and does nothing but try to dig up dirt on the other. What USC needs to do for incoming freshman is give them a list of pro USC and pro UCLA media people and tell them to only talk to the good guys. Let people like Steve Hartman and Joe McDonald have to make do with just UCLA interviews so they cant spin everything a kid says.

Re: PSU OTL
Yeah, but no one in SoCal actually cares. You guys aren't real fans anyways. Worst fans in the nation reside in SoCal.
Besides, if USC doesn't want the media to keep digging up dirt on them than quit cheating. It's really that simple. If Pete would stop paying his players, there'd be nothing for anyone to dig up. It's like my pot head buddy that thinks the cops are out to get him but if he'd quit smoking weed like every mature 28 year old that's outgrown their HS/College days he'd have nothing for the Cops to find anyways.

So who does PSU-fan see winning the fight between Joe Pa and Spanier to name Joe's successor and will the uncertainty affect when Joe leaves?

Re: PSU OTL
Whats a real fan? someone who hangs a flag on the side of their double wide and wears a hat everyday thats emblazened with the logo of a school they didnt go to? Some buck toothed, sister fucking, chain smoking ass crack with a GED and a minimum wage job refering to a team they dont play on as "we" because he has nothing else going on in their life?
Iowa fans were the worst fans anyone at USC remembers ever having to share a stadium with after that Orange Bowl. Nothing but fat mid western assholes with big guts and bigger mouths walking around in overalls talking mad shit before the game and out of the stadium before the start of the 4th quarter. Go have a bratwurst and a beer you fat fucks, wheres that team been since that ass kicking anyway?
Good thing Carrolls not a bitch ass like those OU kids parents are, all your bullshit lies on message boards about him paying players would land your ass in court too

Re: PSU OTL
See, I'm gonna have to call bullshit on that one considering USC fan didn't even show up for the game.Iowa fans were the worst fans anyone at USC remembers ever having to share a stadium with after that Orange Bowl.
NOTHING but fat midwestern assholes with big guts?? Really? Well, I was at the game.....my fatass 5 foot 11 and 160 pound frame! I had an Iowa jersey and khaki's on at the game. Those jagoffs in the overalls, that's 1 out of every 200. They annoy me. They're the farmers. They don't represent our fan base.Nothing but fat mid western assholes with big guts and bigger mouths walking around in overalls talking mad shit before the game
Look, I'm not gonna sit here and say I never see things from Iowa fans that piss me off because I do. Been to 4 of the last 5 bowl games and I've seen quite a few Iowa fans I wish wouldn't associate themselves with the U of I. But the vast majority of us are nothing like that.
But, at least we showed up to support our team. You can't defend your fan base. I'm not saying you're like that. Maybe you are a loyal fan and that's great. But a pretty good size portion of your fan base is the lame, bandwagon fan. It's not like that at Iowa. Our fans are louder and more loyal and we don't show up at Kinnick because it's the cool thing to do. We show up because we want to cheer on our team and because we love football. Even in down years, we'll still pack the house. USC fans are lame and don't know how to have a good time and how to cheer on their team. You can't deny that. Everyone that's ever seen USC in person knows this. I'm sorry man, but that's a fact.

Re: PSU OTL
Im not going to say that USC fans travel well, we dont, some of us alumns will go to a game or two on the road a year but the fans have never traveled much for bowl games thats just a fact. Doesnt make all USC fans bandwagoners, just means most would rather stay home for the winter in sunny Southern California. Look at what a lot of the north eastern fan bases are trying to escape every winter and maybe youll have a better understanding as to why they travel better. Those "farmers" arent going to be doing much farming in the middle of winter when theres snow on the ground.
I can not defend that USC went from 60,000 fans a game to 90,000 fans a game after Carroll got here and got things rolling, even I gave away my tickets during the Hackett years as there were other things I would have rather done then go and watch a team and coach that put out little effort but I still sent the checks to C&G and still bought season seats. Remember, there are a million thiongs to do here on a sunny fall saturday afternoon, can the same be said for iowa?

Re: PSU OTL
See that whole mentality you guys in SoCal have is a joke. "We've got more to do....blah blah blah!" Bullshit.
You have a beach. We don't. There's 10 billion things we in the midwest are able to do that does not include a beach.
What exactly do you arrogant a-holes think we midwesterners do? We have bars, golf courses, casinos, parks, sports venues, movie theatres, malls, etc.... What the heck else do you need? If I want a beach or I want to go mountain climbing I go on vacation. Those things aren't something I care to do on a daily basis anyways. If you still hang out every night at fancy night clubs and go to the beach every afternoon and you're beyond age 25........you're a loser anyways. Get married, have kids, and tell me if the beach and fancy night clubs are all that exciting on a regular basis still.
The freakin' Orange Bowl is in Miami, Florida. 2002 was the first year USC had been good in about 10 years. You can't even show up for that?? Come on now. That's ridiculous. The "we've got better things to do than watch USC" just proves what I've said. Loyal fans show up regardless of how bad the team sucks or where the school is located. The fact of the matter is your fan base doesn't deserve the success this team is having. Real fan bases deserve a team like that. USC deserves a middle of the pack team that makes anual trips to the Sun Bowl.

Re: PSU OTL
I took my oldest to that Orange Bowl and 2 years later I took both of my sons, as I remember USC sold out their allotment to that game.
My kids and I are at the beach every single day during the summer, I will surf or jog there every morning and then I leave them there with friends until their mom picks them up, during the school year they normally go with me to surf or run in the morning before school.
How much golfing are you guys getting in between thanksgiving and LOI day?
Getting married, a 800k mortgage, 2 car payments, and having kids doesnt make you a grownup

Gloating on a pretty passionate CFB board about how you'd rather toss your tix in the trash and ride some waves is probably going to stimulate some smack. Don't take it so personally. To be honest, nobody really cares how many things you guys have going for you in fake plastic land. If you can't muster the enthusiasm to watch your team play once a week, then yeah, you're probably gonna get called on it. The reason other folks still watch their teams when they lose is because they have a vested interest, not because "there's nothing better to do."Those "farmers" arent going to be doing much farming in the middle of winter when theres snow on the ground. Re: PSU OTL
Vested interest or are they living vicariously through them? At least the kids Im accused of living vicariously through are mine
I gave the tickets to co workers or friends, it was just too painful to see that boob running the program in to the ground. I miss occasional games still since my sons have been playing football and sometimes have games the same day. May have to miss the game vs ohio state

Re: PSU OTL
Using your hatred for Paul Hackett as an excuse for not showing up is lame and you're using that excuse on the wrong person because I'm a Chiefs fan. A die-hard Chiefs fan. I watched that sumbitch call poor play after poor play in Kansas City but you didn't hear me giving away my tickets or going surfing instead of watching the games. I sat through it.
I do play golf after Thanksgiving. Take about 2 trips to Florida over the winter and play golf there and then spend some time at an indoor driving range too. I also play basketball in the winter. Or take my nephews sledding. I love the snow. You'd be surprised how much fun you can have in the winter in the midwest. If you think there's nothing to do in the winter, you're just flat out clueless.
