The Dark Knight

Post by Shoalzie »

*NO SPOILERS*

Saw it last night with some friends from work...very entertaining, great story and well-acted. I thought it was a large step up from Batman Begins. I think it's a bit much to say Ledger deserves an Oscar nomination for his performance but I do think the fact he died added to the mystique of his portrayal as the Joker. He definitely doesn't disappoint...very haunting and creepy compared to the silly cartoonish character that Nicholson played in the first Tim Burton Batman movie. This one definitely goes near the top of the list of favorite superhero movies.

8/10

interesting. i sort of agree that the Nicholson Joker is not as hotsy totsy as people like to laud it as the greatest performance ever...when it 's actually pretty corny.

until About Schmidt and Good as it Gets Jack was really coasting on playing "Jack Nicholson". i'd include the joker in that category.

go watch the Passenger or the Border or 5 Easy Pieces, he's really "acting" in those.

long live Cesar Romero.

i'll go see the Dark Knight, prolly. hell if it stays this hot, i can mos def see a few hours in climate control.

Hard to get too serious about a role as a psychotic in clown make-up, fleeing from a guy in a batsuit. I thought he was an excellent Joker; nailed what he was trying to do. Very memorable to say the absolute least. Ledger was engaging, but not quite as impactful.

Nicholson did what he always does, played a great Nicholson.

Going to see the new one this weekend. Always give a week or two to let most of the crowd die out. If it's anything like the last one, Nolan was nails and Bale was great. And Ledger couldn't be worse than Tim Burton's buffoon.

KC, I concur with your take on Cesar Romero. He was a fantastic camp character. The old t.v. series was terrific goofieness. My uncle was one of the editors on the show, and I actually have a couple of props from it.

The new movie is a classic, at least from a genre standpoint. Ledger gave a memorable performance, a much stronger turn than Nicholson's self-parody. Edgy, funny and creepy, Ledger should get a posthumus nod at Oscar time.

As long as you take the movie for what it is, a comic book film and nothing remotely seriously beyond that, you'll enjoy it.

Yes Martard, another superhero movie. And it will probably be one of, if not THE, highest grossing movies ever.

You might dismiss it, but the box office says otherwise.

Hey dumbfuck...those profits for "Dark Knight" aren't just U.S. numbers.

The earnings to date are up over $600,000,000. And they will only continue to escalate with more overseas screenings and eventual DVD sales and rentals.

Pull your head out of your ass and watch how the rest of the world enjoys our "infantile folly", while you continue to :xxxl: your life away.

Cheers and bode, USA!

Great flick. The only down side was the (appearant) death of a charachter they shouldn't have killed off at the end.

But the annoying one they whacked in the middle? Awesome.

Special effects were great, Bale was his usual understated until he's over the top self, and Ledger was just plain creepy.

And Aaron whatshisname was pretty good.

I don't think the movie implied that he died. In fact, it seems that the sequel will be quite dependent on his return. Along with the possibility of the Penguin as a kingpin crime boss.
