Tom Brady and Manning will also be "out played" by their backups....that is why it is called preseason.

If Farve was a 2nd teamer to Rodgers, they wouldve traded Farve to the bears by now.

I doubt rodgers even believes that.
He's out played him in the preseason the last two years.... why would this year be any different ?

The coaches found the opportunity to get rid of the "hillbilly" and they've jumped on it.

If they really felt that Favre was better, he'd be welcomed back on the team. It's that simple.

The preseason argument doesn't hold water...give it a rest. You used that line last year and it just as stupid now as it was back then.

Packers management has more say in this matter than a less experienced and a lesser name coach like McCarthy. Thompson picked Rodgers with a first round pick and he'll be damned if he doesn't get a chance to play before he either asks for a trade out of Green Bay or he leaves when his first contract is up. How many first round picks don't see the field in their career? No one knows if they will fail unless they get a chance to play. Thompson hasn't seen enough of Rodgers for his liking and when Brett retired, it opened the door for his guy to be the starter since there is no other veteran to compete for the job. Rodgers wouldn't have pushed Favre for the starting job this year if he never retired in the first place.

All this Cal/m2/Rodgers lovefest aside...I don't blame a team for wanting to play their QB of the future at the first opportunity but we're talking about Brett F'n Favre. He wouldn't sit on the bench behind anyone in this league not named Brady or Manning. Favre is dicking with the team with his constant waivering in his desire to play and his hissy fits through the media about how Packer management lied to him about doing things he suggested. Brett put himself in a tough spot by not coming out in the beginning and saying he wanted back in. He flip-flops worst than a politician and I think a lot of people would be more sympathetic to his situation if he was just honest from the start and didn't turn this into a war of words with management.

I enjoy watching him play but I don't think anyone is going to come away from all this and think of him the same way ever again...and that's with all the previous years of the "will he or won't he retire?" drama. I think all football fans just want this damn thing to reach an end...be it a trade or his release or he just joins the team in camp and plays to get back his job. One guy shouldn't overshadow the dawn of a new season.

When someone breaksdown and cries during a press conference and says that he is retired, then you gotta move on. I have no pity for Brett Favre in this situation. What I would have done if I were Packer management was bring in a serviceable/veteran backup QB to play behind Rodgers. That would have definitely given Brett the message that the team was moving on without him. Brett would have approached it differently or perhaps stayed retired.

Right now, Rodgers head must be swirling. He has handled this whole situation with class, but it's gotta be bugging him that fans are out at practice chanting "We want Brett!" It's a bad situation and Brett's fake retirement presser has caused nothing but trouble.

Horseshit. Favre would have still played the same game. McCarthy repeatedly asked him yesterday if he was willing to come back and play for the Packers and Brett said no. His little feelings have been hurt. Hope the fucking princess gets his leg Theismanned in his first game for Tampa Bay.

2nd.

Although it would have been fun to see him fall flat on his face in GB, trying to mentally and physically catch up with 44 other guys who were committed to football in the offseason. McCarthy told Jay Glazer that he asked Favre point blank if he was going to study film and actually, you know, prepare for games and shit. And Favre was noncommital. That might get in the way of his just having fun out there, gunslinging, and choking away big games.

Fuck him.

What a mess. Not just this thread, either.

Seriously, if you have the option of having a Super Bowl MVP as your backup for an unproven scrub (even worse, one from Cal- how mediocre is he going to turn out) or trading him to a division rival...

Your call. But this will all end badly.

And yes, having Kurt Warner on the bench is okay. If he's needed, we'll know where to find him. It won't be Tampa Bay.

Johnny U wasn't over when everyone thought he was toast. Neither was Joe Montana.

Perhaps. But I the message would have been clear if the Pack got a veteran backup. Favre would have been reinstated, but he would've know he had to play elsewhere.

More horseshit. Princess Brett would have assumed that the Packers would kick that veteran backup to the curb and welcome him back. Classic case of the boy who cried “wolf”.

Leroy Butler destroys Favre

On 540 ESPN radio in Milwaukee Leroy Butler was interviewed by Steve "the homer" True. Homer asked him about the current players reaction and Butler indicated they would be happy it was resolved. He then went on to say that their was in his opinion a growing resentment towards Favre in the locker room. He dressed in his own locker area, rarely socialized, and did not like sharing the glory.

Homer asked him about Favre's distance with his teammates and Butler responded and I quote. " I could call Peyton Manning right now, Tom Brady, 90% of the guys who played with me could get my number and call me anytime. I could contact just about every guy I played with in my career; I would never be able to get Bret Favre's number. He would not talk to me".

When asked when was the last time he spoke to Favre Butler said, " oh, years. Years ago".

When asked why he thinks Brett is so distant with current and former teammates Butler said, and again I quote, "Brett thinks he is a God. He puts himself on Mount Rushmore, one of those 4 or 5 great players all time. He doesn't need to have contact or communication with anyone. Do you ever see Brett come down to State Fair, go to a fund raiser at the Mall, visit a school? He thinks he is above all of that".

These are pretty damning statements from a former teammate, who is widely respected in Packer land.

Some serious zingers in there....

Zinger 1: surname -- "Favre began his life as a dick when he was born and given the surname Favre, a name so obnoxious that it can only be pronounced by saying the letters in an order other than the one in which they are written."

Zinger 2: college -- "Favre began his elite football career in college at Southern Mississippi, an institution of higher learning intended mainly for students who didn't get accepted by all the other colleges no one has ever heard of."

Zinger 3: early NFL career -- "Favre was then traded to the Green Bay Packers, where his career continued promisingly, despite Troy Aikman's annually making him his bitch."

All I'm going to say is if Favre takes a lesser Jets team in a deeper AFC to the playoffs and Rodgers can't take a very young and talented Packers team in a very weak NFC to the playoffs...well, it won't be pretty for m2 or his boy.

How soon until we see a Kyle Boller thread?

Huh?

So "now" the midwesterners are saying that if basically a "rookie" doesn't out perform the "greatest" quarterback in the history of football, he's a flop ?

Man, the midwesterns will do whatever(excuses) they can to make sure that their "god" isn't embarrassed by a Northern California guy who will be starting his FIRST NFL game ever.

Sad really.

That being said.... Aaron Rodgers will out perform "the hillbilly" this season because he's the better quarterback.

I for one, will be laughing all season long as you midwesterners eat that tasty crow you all are so used to.

Have you tards ever wondered why not one single PAC 10 fan has ever come in here or anywhere on this board and questioned Aaron Rodgers ability ???

There's a very good reason for it, and you're going to find out why all season long!

Good times.

How exactly are the Jets a "lesser" team? Take a look at their offensive depth chart. Baring any training camp injuries, they have as solid a starting 11 as any team in the AFC save possibly New England and Indy. If anything trips up the Jets it's defense, not offense. IMO, the pressure is on Favre to prove to Jet fans he is worth the money at this stage in his career.

Reefer Boy might've been Da Bomb in COLLEGE, but this is the NFL. I HIGHLY suggest you let the guy play 16 NFL games first before coming in here with the kind of complete BULLSHIT that you incessantly spew about your mancrush on Aaron Rodgers.

I'm calling for a 8-8 season, and Ted Thompson's firing at the end of it.

Who said he's my "god"? Yeah, all us midwesterners love Favre...nice blanket statement, sparky. I respect him as a player but that SOB has roasted MY team, the Lions on several occasions and frankly, I'm glad he's gone. I would've prefered he just stayed retired though instead of the crap we just witnessed.

Really what I'm talking about is the fact that the Packers had Favre back in the fold for at least this year where they were a definite contender in the NFC with him under center and Rodgers holding the clipboard another year. Instead, they stick with their QOTF (quarterback of the future) and show the much more accomplished veteran out the door. They're taking a risk by going with the unknown commodity in favor of the sure thing.

If you get lesser results with the other guy (Rodgers), the front office just cost this team a year where they were a possible Super Bowl just so they could make a point to Favre and the fans that they're the ones in charge and they weren't going to let one guy dick around with them. What the Packers front office hoping for is long term results from this not just this year but it'll be hard for their fans to be able to accept the fact Favre is on another team and they will have to sit through Rodgers' growing pains...and there will be plenty like with any young QB.

Football isn't a game where you can keep a large group of players together for very long because of the cap. This particular group with Favre as the QB is right up there with Cowboys, Giants and Saints as the best teams in the NFC for this year. With Rodgers, they're probably still up near there but it's still unknown what they'll be with a different guy as the starter. I could be wrong about him and he could end up being great...we'll never know until he plays.

The point is, the Packers are rolling the dice and they'll have to deal with what could go wrong if this experiment fails and Favre over with the Jets goes on and has a more successful year than them. All you need to look at is the Bears and how they've got two young QBs that haven't worked out all that well and they still can't figure out what to do. The only difference is that neither guy got the starting job by Jerry Angelo kicking a future Hall of Famer's ass off to another team.

You've got faith in Rodgers...I can live with that but just be ready for all this shit to go back in your direction if he's a collosal flop given who was pushed aside in favor of him. It's really no different than the cynicals thoughts towards Steve Young taking over for Montana in San Francisco...you oughta know about that. He had to win that Super Bowl over the Chargers to get people off his case.

Hey, it's not MY fault that the Wiki link I posted didn't have anything in it stating that Tedford was Dilfer's QB coach at Fresno State.

Besides, if you really break it down, Dilfer was so far removed from Tedford (as opposed to all the other Tedford-coached QBs that have played in the league since) when he won the Super Bowl with the 2000 Ravens it's not even funny. He went through three HCs (Sam Wyche, Tony Dungy, Brian Billick), and AT LEAST three different OCs by the time he held up the Lombardi Trophy. David Carr is just now on his 3rd team, Akili Smith is out of the league, Kyle Boller might not make it thorough Ravens camp (he's on his 3rd or 4th OC), and as we all know Aaron Rodgers hasn't done a damn thing yet.

Of course you could care less about facts. That's what makes you the bottom dwelling piece of shit that you are.
Back to the topic at hand.

Bottom line: Aaron Rodgers SUCKS, and he always WILL SUCK, and the Packers kissed any chance of winning a Super Bowl this year good bye. Sucks for you, m2ool.
What do you base that on? His 106 QB rating last year? Rodgers might have some durability issues that he needs to deal with, but what I've seen of him on the field doesn't look bad.

Well well well......

I predicted sometime around mid season before the "hillbilly" started his meltdown.

Looks like good ol' Grandpa Blanda didn't even last that long.

The $12.7 payday from the Jets has to seem a little steep to them now that ol' "Ready-to-Play-Again-Brett" is saying that not only his arm, but legs as well 'are feeling fatigue' and asking to cut back on the warm-up and practice throws to 'preserve' his arm strength.

Glad I'm not paying him.

Just another reason why m2 is the truth

...and is NEVER wrong.

Hard to do when you’re dealing with a paste-eating dumbfuck who doesn’t know when to shut up.
