Olympics watchers...help me out here.

So in a race especially a final, swimming or track...how is it that in a field of 9, there are so many who aren't even close to competing with the top three?

I'd imagine the margin of victory to be less.

Who are those jokers loping along in the outside lanes finishing seconds and seconds behind? How did they make it to this level at all?

By the way - RACK Alicia Sacramone for looking like a female adult and actually growing some breasts.

Well, in swimming back in the 80s the governing body limited the number of athletes from each country to two. Back in the day the US and East Germans would sweep all the medals. So now you only get two per country and it is the US and Aussies cleaning up. Sadly there are athletes back home in the US and down under who would medal but the rules don't allow them to swim.

As for who can enter athletes it is based on previous world championship meets and olympic events. Countries are allowed to enter athletes based on places of finishes at previous meets or their times over the last two years. So sometimes that leads to these outliers.

My question is why do the Aussies wear green and yellow uniforms when their flag is red, white and blue? Hell, the US might as well go to pink for the women and black for the men.

the aussie flag is due to their commonwealth status, but their offical colors are green and waddle. or so i read on yahoo answers.

I fervently believe that there should be a ninth lane in all Olympics events which is filled by someone normal by lottery. We get so used to seeing athletes at their peak, that we can't see how genuinely gifted they are. Imagine the 400m with, say, shutyomouth in the ninth lane. Then we would truly see how phenomenal these athletes are, plus he gets a big cheer as he finally huffs his way up the final straight.

I watched her in the team competition. She does not look 13. That is not the face of a 13-year-old and not the body of a 13-year-old. The Chinese have gymnasts that look 13. Sacramone is a beautiful young woman.
