i guess there's going to be a Watchmen film. stealing this from a Sooner board, Billy Crudup as Dr. Manhattan. not the worst thing ever. was good in Almost Famous, didn't even know it was him in the Good Shep.
no Tom Cruise as Ozymandius, I'm happy.
V for Vendetta was decent enough from the Moore graphic novel stuff. though, he wasn't a part of it.

Re: Watchmen
I don't know who the Watchmen are. Thank you for Billy Crudup's name, it was the only way I could find it, since putting in 'Watchmen' yielded the Keanu Reeve movie instead.King Crimson wrote:i guess there's going to be a Watchmen film. stealing this from a Sooner board, Billy Crudup as Dr. Manhattan. not the worst thing ever. was good in Almost Famous, didn't even know it was him in the Good Shep.

This isn't gonna be a Sue Dibney type thing, is it?http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0409459/
Plot Outline:When an ex-superhero is murdered, a vigilante named Rorshach begins an investigation into the murder, which begins to lead to a much more terrifying conclusion.
As for 'V for Vendetta', it was awesome right up until Evie left the prison..... and then I felt used. I wouldn't feel that stupid again (for getting into a movie) until watching the end of 'The Big Lebowski' a couple weeks ago. Was the original graphic novel version of that scene so depressing and shocking?
Tom Cruise needs to come out of the closet.
on a short leash, apparently.

not even an acceptable plot summary.
i agree the Evie prison plot part of V the movie was weak. otherwise i thought it ran like a clock.

Re: Watchmen
bump.
if you saw Dark Knight, you saw this too:
http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/watchmen/med.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Froz and I talked about this on one of the Sooner boards, and i complained that Rorschach wasn't foregrounded enough....but, he's only one who gets to speak here. i think that Ozymandias appears so young is contrary to the poem--and that he has a vigilante past with the people involved, let's say; but, i guess it works for Gen Whatever.
The Vietnam cuts with the Comedian and Dr. Manhattan are especially good (with the helicopters in the background), IMO.
and Billy Corgan gets a "still kind of relevant, sort of maybe despite a lot of evidence to the contrary" tip o' the hat. much like Perry Farrell with the Entourage theme. Song works, IMO.
looks potentially pretty good to me. i liked V for Vendetta a lot and similarly Alan Moore is off this one....we'll see if "the visionary director of 300" comes through with the goods. original running time is over 3 hours they say, though it's likely to be chopped. what a way to drive special edition DVD sales; leak that info, and then run it at 2 and a half which is probably about the maximum for the casual movie goer.
bottom line: like LOTR, these are pretty high stakes they are playing with and "pretty good" ain't gonna do it.

Re: Watchmen
Looks like it might be good. I hope the "300" guy doesn't overdue it. 300 was a pretty awful flick, really. One of my pet peeves is when a director takes fertile material and kills it with too much errant vigor.

Re: Watchmen
There is no doubt that 300 got seriously fucked up in the screen treatment.
From what I've seen of the publicity stills and the current trailer, "Watchmen" at the very least is going to be translated meticulously, from a detail standpoint. The castings seem to fit, except for Ozymandias. I agree with King Crimson, Comedian and Manhattan, as well as Night Owl look very good.
I'm hoping for a classic here, but I'm not holding my breath.
