Our Local School District is Desperate

Post by RumpleForeskin »

This is getting out of hand
If the new advertising campaign — which also includes selling space in the football stadium and on the district Web site — is successful, Sconzo said he will try to offset some of the $8.8 million in budget cuts Humble made this year. The district had to increase high school class size, for example, from 30 to 32 students.

No advertisements will be placed on a bus without district approval, said Sconzo, who has already rejected one company's ad that he didn't think sent an appropriate message to kids.
Ha! Mrs. Rumps said her smallest class is 39 students. I helped her setup her classroom last week and its a fucking fire hazard with all the desks that are crammed in there.

Texas really screwed the pooch on those fucking tax cuts. Idiots.

Just because your district is shitting the bed, doesn't mean the tax cuts are to blame.

No problems on this side of town in our district, so hey, why not sell ads on buses and in the stadiums? Hell, it should have been done a long time ago up there. We have been doing it for years.

Welcome to the corporate state Texas. I'm sure all that ad money comes with no strings attached.

Humble is one of the fastest growing districts in the state. They are getting funded on a lower level than needed. Same with Cy-Fair who is in big trouble. When the district grows, the funding needs to grow with it.

I know the state isn't to blame for all the mess that is going on with the districts mentioned above. People who made decisions at the top fucked up with the limited funding that they had and now have become reactionary to the problem.

The ads are just a small part of correcting the budget crisis. You should see what they are making the teachers do. The school had a massive lay off in the administrative assistant, IT, and library departments. There is only one IT employee for all four high schools, the teachers are having to double as receptionists and librarians during their conference hours, and the classrooms are packed with way too many students.

It's a bitch, but they are biting the bullet and plowing through it.

Cy-Fair gets whatever they have coming to them. The Barry Center is ten times better than many D1-AA schools. Tell me why you need a college stadium for a couple of HS games?

None of that $85 million is the states fault. Blame the local districts for the positions they are in. Granted those are fast growing districts, but nothing is growing faster than Ft Bend County and they don't have these issues.

Just sayin'

Dude. It's all about finding a balance point, and achieving equilibrium. She probably teaches it.

I'd suggest you sit in on that class, but stuff her pockets full of donuts first thing in the morning that day.

No need to tear the fabric of the universe totally to shreds.

Ahhh..cue the first of the whining to start now that the teachers are back to WORK......errrr school after the fucking summer off.

Texas ain't no different than any other state. Labor and the unions create these costs. Stop blaming the lack of money on taxpayers who refuse to get fucked in the ass any more by the school districts and their free spending ways.

Check that local budget and see what the percentage of labor is of the total budget ?? 90% ...95% maybe

Salaries...full family health care and a fully funded retirement program. That's where the fucking cost is..

When a school district can get the labor percentage down ..they will have money for other things (shocking now)..if your labor costs is 80% or hell ....stretch to the unthinkable here 75% OR LESS...you still have damn little money left for other OPERATIONAL expenses. Think what you could do if your labor percentage was comparable to PRIVATE BUSINESS.

Like utilities...supplies....infrastructure things.

Other wise the bleeding pussy teachers and administrators who have retired at 100% or MORE of their last salary, will continue to whine and snivel that the under performing students ....errrrr teachers are the victims of taxpayers inability to fund the schools.

So continue to whine..snivel and bitch about that taxpayers not funding more inefficient spending..then go check the balance in their retirement accounts..none of which they likely put in there.

Get rid of the Mexicans.
Now only 44% or MORE of the total student population in most school districts in the greater Portland metro area.

Just saying...it might be a reflection of society as a whole ??
