All the contraversy aside, Brady is still one of my favorite players in the league and that's really too bad that had to happen. It'll be interesting to see if Kassel, Chris Simms or whomever is able to take his place and keep the Pats as one of the elite teams in the league. We've never seen them without Brady during this run so we don't know if it is possible to win with a different guy under center.

i'm still trying to figure out how this guy got a job in the nfl. my best guess is that if they were looking for a guy to hold a clipboard, they got one with the most experience.

It is curious that the Pats haven't carried a better backup but nobody really paid any attention to that position on the team until now. It's not like the Pats are need of a QB for the future but it would wise on their part to keep a decent veteran around in case of emergency and in this case, this would be an emergency.

It's a unique relationship I have with my football team that I don't have with the other teams I follow. I could've easily just told the Lions to fuck off by now and I'd either stop watching the NFL or pick another team but I choose to allow those bunch of losers to torture us as a fanbase.

We are CubFan of the NFL...we have a sucky product on field but yet the fans pack the stadium and still support the team even though our loyalty never gets rewarded. That being said...CubFan might finally get their reward this year while the Lions are on their way to another losing season under Millen.

The fact that I'm totally numb as a fan probably has prevented me from having true venom towards the Patriots for the whole Spygate thing or towards any of the Lions traditional rivals just because I'm pretty much in a mode of pure indifference as a fan. I love the NFL but my team makes it damn hard to enjoy it or to think about it the way other fans do.

It's actually been a hot topic in town since the Miami game last year when Brady had to go back in after Cassell let a 42-7 lead slip to 42-28… or was it 42-21? Regardless, it's been all over Boston sports talk since that day. Couple that with the horrible Cassell pre-season and Brady's lingering foot issue in camp, believe-you-me, it's been the 2nd biggest Chowdfan football question (behind the OL) in the days leading up to the season. Sadly, it wasn't appropriately addressed by Belichick/Peoli….

Rack you, man. As a Falcon fan, I understand your pain probably more than anybody here. You guys were just down yesterday. I think you're better than what you showed, but I'm not so sure the Lions had expected the Falcons to be as improved as they (hopefully) are.

I'll stick with the Falcons no matter what. Everybody should stick with their teams through thick and vomit. I think the Lions will learn from yesterday.

You're being a little too kind about the Lions...it really looks like more of the same with them. It looks like a continuation of the 1-7 collapse in the second half of the season last year. Yesterday really showed that the Lions are once again going nowhere but I think the Falcons should feel good about the changes they made in the offseason. The Lions have the worst and least successful executive in the history of pro sports and a coach that is either clueless or his team doesn't respect him. The Falcons go out and hire a bright young mind to be their GM and they hire one of the better coordinators in the NFL and so far they have a nice win to hang their hat on.

I'm really disappointed the Lions weren't able to take advantage of the obvious mismatch between the big receivers and the young undersized corners of Atlanta. Also, the fact they didn't scheme to stop Turner and Norwood when they should've known that Ryan wasn't going to be expected to win the game on his own. All he did was manage the game and hand the ball off to his backs and got the hell out of the way. The Falcons planned for that game. They have two very good backs and a young QB...don't put too much on your rookie and allow the established players lead the way. Ryan will get comfortable as the season moves along but in the early going, Smith would be wise to just let his backs do the heavy lifting and keep the gameplan simple for him. He has an okay collection of receivers but the strength of that Falcons team will be the backs.

All and all, my team (still) sucks and the Falcons appear to be moving in the right direction although anyone who takes a lot out of beating the Lions is nuts. The Lions are a horse shit organization and that shows in the decisions they make with players and coaches and it's painfully obvious every time they're on the field. They have a few guys who actually have talent but football is the one game where you can't rely on a couple talented guys to carry you. This one of the big reasons why I don't think the Pats are done without Brady. That team is more than just the QB. They will make the playoffs without Brady but won't win the Super Bowl...I wouldn't go to that extreme. The Lions are so lacking in basic talent that pretty much an average to below average team can look like a championship team when they step out on the field with them.

Brady is a great player, but they do have alot of talent besides him. Cassel will be asked to manage the game like Brady did when he got his shot. I think 12-14 is a little optimistic, but 10-11-12 even is doable. The teams on their schedule that worried me were Indy, San Diego, and Pittsburgh. Two of those teams lost to the Bears and Panthers at home last week.

BTW, I think 6 QBs are starters this year in the NFL and never played a down in D1A football. 5 D1A QBs and 1 D2 QB.

With Brady, the Pats were one of the best teams in football. Without him they are going to get their asses handed to them when they play a decent defense. Combine that with a rather weak AFC, and its going to be a crapshoot to see who comes out of that conference as the leagues runner up.

Been gone for a while.. and the first post I read when I come back is the Pats tards pounding their chest because they beat a Jets team that had trouble with a shitty Miami team the week before? And had Farve not shown he is still the same player he was his last few years in GB and thrown that shitty interception, they very well could have lost. Yes- they proved they are not done.. but they play in one of the easiest divisions in football and are playing one of the easiest schedules ever given to a team in the last 5-10 years. They will probably be 4-0 after their bye week after facing the lousy Dolphins and the Niners after tghe .. but after lookign at the rest of the season- I see at least 6 losses.. maybe 7 the rest of the season (San Diego, Denver, Indy, One of the Buffalo games, The other Jets game, Pitt, and maybe Seattle). Even at 9-7 they may still make the playoffs with that weak ass division... but thats about it.

Relax... TH is as stupid as they come and upstart is an obvious shit troll. Once Kneely posts his thoughts about the 2-0 start, the tardfecta will have spoken.

The fact remains, Cassell or no, 4-0 is a reasonable expectation (Miami and SF up next) to start the season. 6-6 in the last 12 will probably get them in the playoffs.

Btw -- the Bills had already made a believer out of me before they beat the Jags. See the "best 3 bets for week two" thread...
