Mini PET of RICE vs Texas

Post by Left Seater »

So we have had tickets to this game for a couple of months. Wasn't sure we would still go given the no power situation and the recovery post Ike. Canceled the hotel room for Friday night and decided to drive over and back in same day. Got to say the Texas fans were pretty good to us overall, with me in RICE gear and my wife sporting the Maroon. So pics first them thoughts.

My wife before leaving Sugar Land for the game with one of the puppies we are fostering for a local shelter. Charlie was adopted yesterday and he went to his new home right after this picture was taken. You go Charlie.

We moved the ball well to start the game and had an early lead. I thought we might score a little more against a Texas secondary that is breaking in some new faces. Props to our OL for giving time early, but credit their depth for wearing our guys down and the sacks came late.

WTF OWLS how can we have 11 shots at the endzone from inside the 10 and come up with nothing? That was totally unexceptable! Texas resets the down to 1st for us twice and we can't score! Piss poor guys. Props to the Texas defense for going hard that whole time.

I further think that both teams need to lose that dual QB formations. We couldn't do crap with it and neither could Texas. Does anyone really expect a pass to Clement or McCoy in those formations? We should have just lined up and let Clement throw it towards Dillard. They would have been successful more times than not. Childes for Texas was good at the end against a worn out RICE defense, but could do nothing against us early. OU and the rest of the BIG XII will eat him up. McCoy reminded me of McGee of ATM of the past couple of season running the ball, but dude is 10 times the passer of McGee.

Thoughts and prayers to that Irby kid who had the broken leg (?) in the 3rd quarter.

A 950 piece band?

I'm guessing that was a sight. And a sound... an extremely loud, extremely big sound.

Have your eardrums recovered yet?

Yeah, it was loud, and yeah it was huge. They covered the whole damn field no matter what formation. As for the music they saluted LBJ and Led Zeppelin and of course played Stairway to Heaven and a medly of three other songs. How many will be on the field this Thursday when OSU and the Condoms are on ESPN? Should I take earplugs?

PSU, war out kicking the coverage.

Shoalzie, thanks man, will send you streaming link when it is up.

Nice lefty, and props on the job. You won't have to worry about using unacceptable and unexceptable correctly as they are pronounced the same.

The Longhorn Band is pretty impressive. Every year my kids school district has a Festival of Bands and each year the show concludes with a performane from the Longhorn Band. It really kicks ass in a more intimate venue like a high school stadium. Plus the kids get a huge kick out of it. Glad to see Lefty had a good time in my hometown. On the other hand, I've spent the last week or so in Lefty's town and find it not so pleasant.

i guess it's been a while since i saw a game on TV at DKR but congrats to them for losing the Joe Jamail inflatable smoke tunnel. Last time i saw something like that, Rob Halford came out of it on a Harley in 1983.

OS usually has a deece band, actually. Not in the Horns' league, but decent.

Haven't seen it lately, but OSU (back when they were "OSU") used to have Band Day. Starting early in the morning, the top high school bands had a big competition, and would all join together for a big group wingding during halftime of that day's game... at least a thousand kids.

Pretty cool, not sure if they do that anymore.

So, I doubt you'll need earplugs. If you're going to wear any gear that isn't OS/Black and Orange, I'd suggest bringing an umbrella. Haven't been to a game in Corvallis in years, but they used to really enjoy spitting on opposing players and fans.

And really, what a fine tradition to base your reputation on -- pure class, all the way.
