Millen is gone!
Millen is gone!
I'm listening to WDFN at work right now and they just mentioned that there are "rumblings" from Allen Park that Millen could be cleaning out his office right now...the rumor is that he is about to let go very soon. There is nothing definitive but it sounds like it could finally be possible. The day that LionFan has been dreaming about for at least 5 years may finally happen. It's not confirmed by any of the major news sources in Detroit but that seems to be the feeling today. It's too early to guess who takes over or who is the next guy they pursue but the long nightmare in Detroit may finally be over. I don't want to jinx it by posting this now but please, oh please...let it be true. It doesn't turn the franchise around but at least a guy that hasn't deserved to keep his job for the longest time might finally have his head on the chopping block.

Re: Millen is gone!
Very true. You have to look at the inept ownership that would first hire a tv analyst, pay him top dollar, extend his deal during the worst stretch of football ever, and wait so long to off him. The organization is the joke.mvscal wrote:The joke is on you. Keep looking for a scapegoat. I've heard rumors of Marty Shottenheimer, Bill Cowher, among others. None of them would touch this deal without total control. I don't know if the Fords could handle that.

The owner is the ultimate problem but Millen dragged this team down to a level that no franchise should ever get to. 31-85...do you understand how awful a record that truly was?
I pointed it out last week...this team was at least a couple games below .500 when Barry was here and they competed for the playoffs in the two years after that and before Millen came in. The bottom fell out on this team when he was brought in and we've had to suffer through this embarrassment for 8 or 9 years.
By no means does this salvage this year...it's still a lost cause with the how bad the roster is constructed and Marinelli is probably the next guy with the bull's eye on him...but it's at least hope for LionFan that the worst is over. We don't know how this could turn around until the "next guy" is brought in. We've been clamoring for Bill Cowher for over a year now to be the new coach. They passed on Bill Parcells when apparently came to the Lions for the job before he ended up in Miami. I want someone who has experience and has respect around the league because Millen was absolute joke around the NFL. Those people are probably thinking, what hell took the Lions this long to make this move?
We are dying for a winner up here and anyone that can at least get them back to where they were in the 90s when they were at least okay, not the level of suck that they are at now...we'd be like pigs in shit. I wouldn't expect someone to come in on a white horse and turn them into the Colts or the Patriots or the Cowboys. We just want to root for a team that we don't have to feel embarrassed about. If you can give me 8-8 or 9-7 and a shot at the playoffs each year...I'd be doing cart wheels. Maybe there is a year like '92 when things go right and they win 12 games and the division and go the NFC title game.
The bottom line, this nightmare of Matt Millen essentially pissing on LionFan is over. We wanted him out and he's finally out.

I feel for RaiderFan now but at least you had the 70s. We don't know anything other than losing.

He was a big fucking part of it.mvscal wrote: You'll find out soon enough that Millen wasn't the problem.
They sure as fuck weren't going to get any better with him

If Old Man Ford gave Millen 8 years to never improve...he's probably going to give the next guy plenty of time. What killed Millen right away was for how bad they were in his first couple years and his arrogance that he was the right guy for the job when clearly he wasn't. If the right guy is brought in and he slowly turns things around, that guy will get the support of this fan base. We had nothing to hang onto as far as hope under Millen is concerned. Our hope now is that it can't get any worse than what it was. Our hope going forward is that the next guy isn't as bad as the last guy.
Millen leaving is great but the franchise is still a disaster. The roster sucks and the coaching staff and scouts are terrible. The next guy is charge has to start all over and I think we'll have to deal with a few more bad years while the wholesale organizational enema is taking place. No one can come in tomorrow and win right away with the Lions the way they are. Millen sucked as an executive but it's not like him leaving makes things better immediately. All it means is that he is no longer making more bad decisions and setting this team back for several years.
