So they will "negotiate" the deal - maybe it really is the earmarks that stopped it.
Again, IMHO there is Zero, Zilch, Nada chance that this bailout doesn't happen in some shape or form.
You think those reps got a ton of calls today?
Wait till Joe 401K Wagon gets home today and see's his retirement just shrunk by another 6%.
Let's all just assimilate now, shall we comrades?

Seems to me you could solve this problem cheaper by just putting $500,000 in the pockets of every person in the country.
300,000,000 * 500,000 = $150,000,000,000,000
300,000,000 * 500,000 = $150,000,000,000,000

Bwah... yeah, that sucks BIGTIME. But I'm a good 15-20 years from retirement and can hopefully weather this storm. What sucks more is all the jobs that people will lose when companies can't buy raw material/inventory and can't make their payroll, and that's going to happen soon if the credit market doesn't loosen up.KC Scott wrote: Wait till Joe 401K Wagon gets home today and see's his retirement just shrunk by another 6%.
Hell, it's already happening. My company went from 3 shifts to 2 a few months ago and is getting ready to cut back to 1 next week. Another 60 decent paying mfg. jobs and people gone out the door, and no assurance of if/when those jobs will come back. Probably not until the domestic housing market rebounds, and that could be a year or more.
And there aren't many decent job openings out there right now. I don't know what sector of the economy others here work in, but this is going to affect everyone in one way or another.

An evening of watching the pro bush news channels that will paint this up as a disaster of epic proportions and that will sway a whole bunch of people towards, not away.
Personally, I don't think they should be bailed out. Let the hard times come and then they will go, and then let's see if anyone ever tries this level of greed again.
I've been on board for blaming the brokers, lenders and banks for this shit from the start. We will suffer either way, but they will only suffer if we don't help them, so fuck 'em. The markets will recover, they always do. let the private industry sharks jump in. It's almost feeding time.

The bailout is $700 billion spread over some amount of time.
The market lost $1.1 trillion in value today alone. Do the math.
Sure, just numbers on paper, right?
May you be lucky enough to avoid the immediate fall-out of a lost job, but many folks won't be.

Yet, the House still turned the measure down. When is the last time that has EVER happened?

Wags,
The right,r esponsible thing will be done in the end. Have some faith in the process. Jobs are going to go, regardless, based on some analysts and that was last week with the original package. And that was IF these bailout worked.
It's too much too fast and without any real indications that it will fix anything.

We're seemingly in a no-win situation, yet no one really knows what will happen if we do nothing; or if this bailout measure eventually passes and if so, if it could even work.
The political fortitute shown today in the House was nothing short of stunning.

That's fear talking bro. You have every right in the world to be concerned. It is a serious time. FDR said "We have nothing to fear but fear itself". Knee jerk reactions aren't the best responses to things like this and tend to backfire.
Passing this bill was no insurance against the unemployment rate going up. That MIGHT happen no matter what is done. It will suck for a lot of people. I hope you're not one of them.
