Of course, im not legal counsel in any way, shape, or form-but let me ask a legitimate question about this situation:

What exactly does "The Natural" think is gonna happen if his shitbag parents and grandparents get thier way? Fucking kid is gonna get the hell punked out of him if you are removed/not offered a contract extension by the other kids who happen to be good enough to letter ( ) of all fucking things.....

I remember having a bitch like that on our basketball team (the parents complained to the coach that he wasnt getting enough playing time and that he was a "great" shooter, blah blah-none of which was true, of course) and we fucked with him mercilessly until we got him to quit.

I think its completely worth it, Mace-you will not only get the scumbag parents/grandparents to shut the fuck up permanently, you will also set a precedent in your small town moving forward from here.

Absolute horseshit, Mace.

Nice fucking lesson they're teaching the young twat too-if you cant get your way, just lie until you do. Pathetic.

Lawsuits usually end up with one primary result - money in the pockets of the lawyers.

However, lawsuits usually do scare the shit out of most people, because they have to defend themselves against them, which costs them money no matter what happens. They lose money on legal fees that they never get back.

If this campaign results in you losing your job, I'd consider promptly filing a lawsuit naming each individual parent involved in this, AND the members of the board for slander, libel, and loss of income, etc. From the sound of it you have a chance of either getting some money or perhaps covering your costs, but you probably won't ever coach again. But since you might not anyway, might as well hit em wear it hurts.

If anyone on the board are friends of yours, give them a heads up that this WILL happen if they move forward against you, then perhaps they can shut these people up instead of you. That might also give the board something to think about and time to grow a pair & stand up to these assholes. There's nothing better than the support of a school board to shut people up.

If they wanna play hard ball, play. But the consequences might not be very good for anyone.

If you can stick it out until these idiot parents kids move on, all the better.

Nothing worse than Asshole sports parents for sure.

Well no lawsuit, yeah, you'll coach again. I just figured a lawsuit in a small town becomes the topic of conversation, and then other schools might shy away from hiring you.

A friend of mine was sued by an ex partner for slander, libel, and theft of intellectual property. It was a total bullshit lawsuit. My friend won, but he really didn't win. It cost him $30,000 in legal fees to defend himself against the lawsuit. The other party ended up selling their house to pay their legal bills. It was a total cluster fuck.

The first year I coached HS basketball as an assistant, the HC spoke at the end of season awards dinner, and said he had kept track of all the hours he spent coaching for that season, and figured out that he made about .25 cents an hour doing it.

His point was that he would have done it for free (won the division that year and crushed the rival team twice), but it still let everyone know the sacrifices a coach makes.

The caliber of high school baseball in Iowa muss be piss fucking poor if you're even contemplating using an 8th grader in varsity baseball, even for a single AB. Holy Christ.

I stand corrected. You're right about the small school factor.

Pushy asshole parents. The one part of Coaching I TRULY hated was dealing with them.

I remember this loud, short, fat, bald father of a kid who was average at best CONSTANTLY whining because he thought his star child wasn't getting the PT the father thought he deserved, coming into the office all pissed off one day and insisting he could "fucking out coach us both", and actually trying to convince us to let him coach a game to prove it. :)

We just sent him to the AD with his request. The AD loved us and we knew he'd take care of the shithead, and sure enough he never bothered us again - nor did he ever speak to us again, either. A double win.

But - JUST to get him back, AND shut him up, and after we had won the division going away, We put his kid in at point guard against a team we KNEW would school him.

The kid, much like his father, was also somewhat of a whiner and a selfish player. Dad had taught him well.

Before the half, the kid himself asked to be taken out, as he'd been picked clean 3 or 4 times, he'd thrown the ball away twice, and pissed off all of his teammates along the way with his obvious ineffective play at point. He was pretty quiet the rest of the game.

Sometimes it's great when it works out that way.

I hope those assholes you're dealing with get their due.

I wanted to add some words of encouragement, Mace, because it seems like you're completely in the right here. The only think I can think of, though, that hasn't already been said is...at least you're not AP.

I say you let the kids work this shit out. Maybe if that punk gets beat down a time or two, he will call his shit family off.

Do not spend a nickel on attorneys. It will result in one thing for certain....attorneys getting their pockets filled. Is there an attorney parent that might consider a little pro bono work? Also, you mentioned that the schoolsystem is tired of the bullshit and supports you going after them. Can the town's attorney help you out?

This thread, in it's current state, is like the long slow ride UP the rollercoaster incline.

Page 3, after Kid Gnashville sniffs this action out, is when we raise our hands, scream and maybe piss our pants.

But good luck with this deal, Mace.

For your trial and all, if you need any character witnesses, I'm sure a bunch of folks in here can vouch for you always being cordial and friendly. bwaaa ...

I say dump it all in the AD's lap and let him deal with it.

Contract coach or not, they have to go through steps to do anything. No recourse contracts or not, their is usually recourse.

And let the parents take it to the school board, because then all their comments and written materials become a matter of public record and subject to open meetings and discovery laws.

Mace, this is a fucking High School coaching job you're talking about.

1. If it's more bullshit than you want to put up with, fucking move on and take a coaching gig at some other high school. It ain't like it's a hard job to land- coaches who stick around a place more than 3 years are pretty fucking rare.

2. You'll get pretty much the same bullshit at any school you move to.

Good luck Mace. Sounds like a raw deal. Just remember, the guy that hits back always gets the penalty, so try and keep up your class act. Easier said than done but I'm sure you can do it.
