Showdown in the SHOE!

Post by buckeye_in_sc »

Aight PSU...get your game face ready...

this past weekend saw one team struggle early at home and one team plunger fuck a team on the road...what does it mean absofuckinglutely nothing...

PSU comes in with BALANCE and a terrific defense...OSU comes in with their best ALL AROUND game this year...game at the SHOE, 8pm, PSU has never won in Columbus since JOINING THE BIG 10 (thanks Lance) and I think the combination of Wells and Pryor will extend that streak...I think the OSU D will continue their mojo and hold Clark in check while I think Royster gets his yards...

My prediction

OSU 24
PSU 14

I can fondly remember the first Big 10 game in the SHOE for PSU v OSU 1993, October...a wet snow, cold..AWESOME game...

_sc, I'm sure you knew this but just to come correct. PSU has never won in Columbus since joining the Big Ten. Just as Ohio State is 0-9 against SEC teams in bowl games.

Sky just hooked me up with a ticket to this one. Can't wait to get back into town. This one should be a classic.

Yes, it COULD happen, but I just don't see anyone holding PSU to only 14 pts. I just. Don't. See. It.
Obviously, PSU has got to get off to a better start in this game than they have in prior games this season. For whatever reason, they've come out sputtering for a quarter then break out a can of mo jo. The last thing I wanna see is PSU falling behind 7-0, 10-0, or God forbid 14-0 by the end of the first quarter. Even w/their offense, they will have a difficult time catching back up 'cuz I think OSU will get their points in this game also.

Not exactly earth-shattering, but I'd LOVE to see the Lions force Pryor to throw. I still don't think he's got 'all that' when it comes to tossing the ball around. From what I've seen, his receivers have bailed him out and/or made some great catches. So, do whatever it takes to plug up Wells, imo.

For the Lions, I want to see them set up the run w/the pass early in the game. I believe this will really get OSU on their heels, especially if PSU can put up a quick 7, 10, or 14. Use all of the field doing so. Play a 'no holds barred' type of offense early in the game. But what I'm afraid of is that we'll see a few too many QB options early on.

This one should be such a close game... too hard to call either way. But, since I'm a PSU homer, I'll go with:

Really tough one to call. The OSU team that throttled MSU was the OSU team most people expected when the season started. If THAT team shows up on Saturday, I like the Bucks to win at home 27-21. I think they'll have to play their A game to PSU's B game. If both teams come out sluggish, I give the edge to PSU.

Should be a hell of a game, with absolutely huge implications both for the conference and nationally. I'm glad ABC is making this the national game and not part of regionalized prime-time bullshit.

This Saturday may be the best week of the season.

This game is so big, it should help settle the issue of which one is headed to the Outback Bowl and who gets the invite to play in the Capital One Bowl. Everyone know Iowa is gonna land in the Rose Bowl. That Ferentz dude really knows how to coach -em up.

This game is a big one for PSU. We have a shot at a MNC if we win this game.

We're better situated than in years past to win. We are free of Anthony Morelli, who was a real counterweight to our offensive capabilities. We are free of the 5th year RBs that were "getting their turns" - and showing the rust that such a span tends to afford for.

We've got Joe letting the assistants run the show on offense - for whatever reason.

We're gonna see just how good we are...I'm quite hopeful.

OFFENSE:
Clark - he has been the complete package so far. He's not perfect, he'll make his mistakes, but he'll keep his head in the game and follow mistakes with positives. In a game like this, you have to keep coming. Clark has proven he can do that.

Royster - this kid is something special. He's not flashy, but he has what he needs. He seems very cerebral, interacting well with the zone blocking that we're finally executing well in the 4th season we've been using it. Evan will make the most of whatever cracks he gets. He just goes forward, too - no dancing. Green, his backup, is fast and surprisingly tough.

The Smurfs - these guys are senior WRs, and plenty good. When #2 is on his game, he's tough to stop, as Buckeye fans already know. Norwood and Butler are steady, reliable.

OL - much, much improved. Conference-worthy, even.

DEFENSE
DL - even having suffered attrition of all kinds, this unit is awesome. Maybin is a speed rush monster -is he still leading the nation in sacks? His "backup" Mo Evans is finally revved up and ready to be the dominant presence he was last year. Jared Odrick is an unheralded DT with size and power.

LBs - #18 Bowman is a real standout. Otherwise, our LBs have had their troubles this year. Against UM, the MLB Hull got pushed around. Bradley sat him and put in two young guys, and the defensive game turned around. We need the good guys to start and play tough in this game, or the bucks will simply crunch us up the middle.

DBs - playing a lot better this year. I think for whatever reason, Justin King made the DBs worse. Teams saw that he wasn't instinctive in coverage last year, and made us pay. We've got kids with maybe a smidgen less talent, but more instinct. Last year TB simply ABUSED these guys. We'll play better this year.

The main reason I'm hopeful for this game is that our offense is very much improved. I think the Bucks are the toughest defense we'll face outside of a possible bowl matchup, but for once we have a lot of weapons, and our staff is allowing for their use, and we have a QB who can use them.

I'm not frightened of a slow start - if our Defense can hold on initially, our offense will find ways to be productive. Our defense is good enough to get the occasional stop, and with a lead, the staff lets them fly.

Honestly, I think TB gives tOSU a better shot at winning this game than TP. We'll see what happens.

PSU: 27
OSU: 24

Sig/avatar bet, anyone?

Boeckman? Seriously? OSU is finally starting to look explosive on offense, which they never have with Boeckman. Pryor is finding a groove with the offense and making things happen all over the field, plus putting Beanie in easy rushing situations. You don't stop a train when it's starting to go full steam ahead.

It's all about the way that PSU plays defense.

If I were tasked with gameplanning for tOSU, I'd go with the kid who could hit soft spots of the zone quickly.

I'd line up 4 WRs with Beanie as a sidecar, and just send the wrs into the seam and the holes of the zone and hit them - over and over and over. All it would take would be 3-4 connections, and PSU would be on their heels, which is when I'd hit them with Wells. I wouldn't put the game on TP's shoulders. PSU defends against that sort of QB very well. The longer the play takes to work, that is the longer Pryor looks around and moves with the ball, the better the chances are for Maybin and the others to roll off of blocks and nab him and/or strip the ball. I wouldn't even get close to that. I'd just line up behind my OL and look for a quick pass...and I'd go with the QB who was seeing multiple options better and who was more accurate in that sort of passing scheme.

I don't know, PSUFAN. After seeing what USC did to Boeckman, I'd go with Pryor.

I'm sure the pay scale at PSU is a bit lower, but they both get after the QB pretty good.

Boeckman isn't going to stand back there all day calm and collected, make reads, and carve up the defense. That's much easier said than done. What OSU will need on Saturday is a playmaker. A guy who can not only make the easy throws into the gaps, but a guy who can get outside the pocket and keep your defense guessing a little bit. Also, from what I've seen from Pryor, he's not just looking to run wild. He does sit back there and look for the open target, but if he doesn't find it, watch out! Haven't Juice/Illinois scored more points against your boys than anybody else so far this year? Whereas you've decimated other teams with plants as qbs. I just think on big game days, you give the ball to your big playmakers. We'll find out soon enough, I guess.

ESPN is already back on the bandwagon hyping the buckeyes up. Saying they are a different team with Beanie and the young QB.

USC raping OSU part 2 coming this January on Fox.

osu's going to get worked. pryor will obviously be better sooner than later, but, uh, so far he's won against the best four-losses-in-a-row team in the world [and michigan - MICHIGAN! - got that ball rolling] and michigan state, which i should remind you is also known as michigan state and will be until they prove they aren't, which they haven't. the short term memories these wankers are working with...

if pryor is honest about all the grass he's going to eat then he'll skip the pregame buffet and have sarah palin go over his talking points with him about using this game as an opportunity to grow, while saying nothing about the $150,000 wardrobe both are working with.

Another thing - this sort of thing isn't possible in this game:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 2098629171

Between replay and the glare of Prime Time Lights, the conference officials will be obliged to offer up their A game.

Disclaimer - I don't think that call changed the ultimate outcome of the game. I think tOSU would have succeeded in marching either way. It is an example of incompetent conference officiating, one that I'd hate to see benefit any team in any game.

Ohio State 24
Penn State 20

I think Beanie Wells will be the difference in the game. Mix in a Pryor run here and there and try to stretch the field occasionally to keep the Nittany Lions defense off balance. I think it will be a great game but Saturday night in the Shoe equals a Buckeye victory.......i hope :)

I'm pretty fired up myself. Going to be there. Leaving the Cleveland area around noon, checking into the Varsity Inn, walking down to party central with my styrofoam cooler full of beer, meeting some friends for a roped off tailgate, drinking as much as possible before 7:30, heading to the stadium to watch the band enter, get goose bumps and a tear in the eye, take a looooong leak, sit down in my section-D 20 yard line seats and hope to watch one HELL of a game.

I quit making predictions. Go Bucks
