Being outside of the midwest now, it's a bit difficult to keep up with what's going on in Wings/Hawks land. Had no idea they were playing tonight. But I will be flipping between PSU-OSU, Game 3 and Craps-Stars.

Props to State. Too many big plays. The Kitnaesque int on the first play of the most important drive was the killer. State is the better team this year.

Another bitter pill to swallow this year but hopefully the worst will be over with soon.

The Spartans have a lot to play for in the coming weeks. Two winnable home games with the Badgers and Boilermakers...could set up a conference championship game of sorts with the Nittany Lions. They get a bye prior to the game as well. Even if they go on and lose to Penn State, they have to be pretty happy with a 9-3 season.

The funny thing is that next year they should be a better team. I think they're ahead of schedule but to be fair, they beat 'big brother' at it's weakest point in several decades. You have to give them credit regardless because with other coaches from the past, they would've pissed down their legs lost that game in embarrassing fashion even though they were the better team. It's a notch in Dantonio's belt but I think going to Happy Valley at the end of November and winning a game that would get them a share of the conference title would be bigger for him and his program.

(Hopefully) we see a Michigan-Michigan State game next year where both teams are factors in the Big Ten race...not just one. That scenario has taken some of the luster out of the matchup in recent years. It has been more about one team trying to ruin the other team's season instead of it just being an important game in conference race...which until now, has been about Michigan being the contender and State being the team playing for some respectability.

It's a true rivalry when both teams are playing for a similar goal. It's the reason why Ohio State-Michigan game in most years lives up to the billing. Although, with all good rivalries, you have some give and take and we've seen periods of time where one team has the upper hand over the other. Right now, it's been all about the scarlet and gray. In the Cooper years, Michigan won a fairly regular basis.

I think Michigan-Michigan State can become a top-end rivalry when you see their games carry some weight from a conference as well as a national perspective. I wouldn't mind seeing it...State doesn't really have a reason to not be a top 25 program every year. They seem to have the right coach in place so in turn we should start seeing Spartan teams that play with some consistency. For any SpartanFan that thinks we've seen a shift in power is crazy. You don't get that from just one win. State needs some prolonged success before they can say they run the in-state rivalry. For the first time in a while, Michigan will go into next year's State game with revenge/redemption in mind.

No, there hasn't been any shift in power just yet. MSU obviously has much to prove. I also believe UofM has much to prove if they want to carry on their tradition of overall excellence, considering they've ushered in a brand new regime that is not even off to an average start, contrary to what even the most pessimistic UofM fan would've expected.

Michigan has been outscored 86-7 in the second half of their last four games. That's not just a lack of senior leadership or young talent. That's on the coaches; that's not making adjustments, and it certainly does not speak to being "the best conditioned team in the nation."

Both teams will have a lot to prove in the years to come.

lack of adjustments aside, the defense has been a let down to begin with, and it doesn't help that the offense is so addicted to three-and-outs. the defense had to stiffen so many times in the first half and into the 4th quarter that, well, i don't know. what else would you expect? add to that the way 3rd and long might as well be 3rd and inches to this defense and you can understand why i haven't mustered the stomach to look up season-long time of possession yet.

I am hardly basing this just off one game. I'm basing it off the general direction the team has taken under Dantonio and the improved recruiting we are seeing this year. Put down the haterade, MSU isn't there but they are making strides.

haterade? hardly. i don't own a deep, abiding hatred of msu. on the contrary, i'd like them to do well: i'd root for them before any other big ten team aside from umich. but aside from the jls era, this is nothing new. they've always recruited decently and were on the brink of breaking through, but they never could. a lot of dantonio's recruiting success seems to be a result of taking advantage of the regime change at umich, and from we can tell of dickrod's recruiting strategy so far state will do well from here on out gathering the best of michigan's hs talent. the problem is that michigan doesn't produce much, so meh.

i guess i did overlook the ohio connections, but i'd rather go up against umich for michigan recruits than ohio state for ohio recruits. dantonio will get to be msu in michigan as well as in ohio.
