Re: If Huckabee was the nominee...
Since we're speaking hypothetically, would Palin still be on the ticket or would it have been McCain as the running mate?
I think he would've had more of the backing of the ardent conservative base. I don't know if that would've been enough to overtake the independents that are in favor of Obama. From my perspective as an Obama vote, I would've been more inclined to vote for McCain in this election than I would've if it was Huckabee. He's way too conservative for my liking. The one Republican that probably would've gotten me to the switch my vote would've been Ron Paul.

Given the current financial mess, I think Romney would have been a better pick. Unlike the rest of the field he has real life experience making financial decisions with something other than tax dollars.

With that criteria, the pick should probably have been Warren Buffet.

Last I checked, ole Warren isn't interested in the job. He seems like a much too decent human being to want it.

No. If Huckabee is a Christian as much as he purports to be he probably says the "Our Father", in it one says "lead me not unto temptation".Shoalzie wrote:Since we're speaking hypothetically, would Palin still be on the ticket
He would also know, that Science and science helps those who help themselves and he wouldn't test himself like that.
Stressed, tired, alone on the campaign plane, she rises up to head back to the bathroom a little discouraged and was just complaining how Todd isn't being sensitive to her new roles and responsibilities, the kids and the new "baby daddy" for Atrium (whatever the pregger daughter's name is), is just too much to bear.
A little wine, a little lack of sleep ....
Huckabee goes back to comfort his discouraged running mate ..... and wham bam, thank you Ma'am.
Oh Science, she's hot.
brb ....

Romney would have had a hard time getting past his lobbying for the drug companies in the debates.
While Huckster's policies were closer to reflecting christianity than the others, I doubt America wants another thumper in the White House.
Where the republicans really lost it was when they made Hillary out to be the anti-christ. If they had just kept their mouths shut until after she got nominated they would have had a slightly better chance.

I think pedo is right on this one. SHillary is just naturally unlikable. Onogga on the other hand is likable to some anyway. And getting the black vote out might allow him to steal a red southern state or two.

Huckabee would have been worked BADLY, imo.
The media would have pounded him endlessly, displaying him as a goofy right wing Christian nutter.
Picture what they've done to Palin x a couple o' few.
He would have gotten very little support outside of the republican party, and even within the party he would have a fair percentage who could not stomach him.
Not a winning formula.
It would have been Obama in a landslide, as I see it.

I would agree with this if the Republicans had only spent the past year making Hillary out to be the anti-Christ. But they've been at this for fifteen years, at least. No way to put that particular genie back in the bottle after she declared.Where the republicans really lost it was when they made Hillary out to be the anti-christ. If they had just kept their mouths shut until after she got nominated they would have had a slightly better chance.
In any event, it was obvious from the comments of the right-wing pundits during primary season that they were rooting for Hillary to win the Democratic nomination. If that had happened, McCain could have afforded a vice-presidential nominee who was better qualified and had more appeal to moderates than Palin.

obama's glaring weak point has been joe the plumber. if huckabee was the nominee he would have gained even more ground than mccain did because small business is what huckabee preaches about and is about

Obama's weakness is a tax cheating non-plumber who would get a tax cut (if he paid them)? Sam should have just drawn a B on his face...would have been just as effective.Onions wrote:obama's glaring weak point has been joe the plumber. if huckabee was the nominee he would have gained even more ground than mccain did because small business is what huckabee preaches about and is about
