Cal screwed by the Refs

Post by .m2 »

$C's first TD was a dropped pass. Ball hit the ground and was bobbling with no control when the receiver was rolling on the ground

Cal's TD called back on a phantom lineman down field. The announcers were trying to say that one of the receivers wasn't line up on the line of scrimmage.... even though Ross stepped up to the line of scrimmage and set before the snap.

Not a single lineman down field!!!

The call.... was lineman down field. Not illegal formation!!!

Complete bullshit!

Should have been a 10-3 Cal lead.... and at worst a tie game at the end.

Fuck the PAC 10 refs.... this shit has to end.

Lax had a thread about the call.... but, removed it when the announcers tried to pin it on an illegal formation (which it wasn't since Ross stepped up to the line of scrimmage and set).

Anyways, the call was "lineman down field" not illegal formation.

Maybe Lax will have the balls and come back in and comment on how bad the call was since he started a thread on it.

Complete game changing call.... it makes you wonder if the PAC 10 refs may have a gambling problem.

It's the only explanation.

Yes I did have a thread on it, but when the announcers explained it I figured I was wrong because from what I gather the WR who was on the LOS is not an eligible receiver, therefore when he goes downfield he becomes ineligible. Once I realized that my thread was wrong I deleted it. I thought they got fucked too, but I'm not a ref. OTOH how many open receivers did Reily miss? Maybe that was more of a problem than one or two calls.

The wide receiver has the right to be on the line of scrimmage.

The ref doesn't give a players number and instant replay showed the call was bullshit.

Riley didn't play well... but, giving $C a 14 point swing in a defensive battle is everything.

If both receivers are on the los then the inside guy is ineligible. If he goes downfield he runs the risk of that penalty.
I wish they didn't call it because I was pulling for Cal. Now I'm pulling for Oregon State to run the table and knock the condoms out of the national championship race and possibly the rose bowl race.

Lax, they both weren't on the line. One was off the line if you watch the replay.

Mace, the receiver was covering the left tackle. It was a legal play... and Cal was screwed.

Look at the highlights if you get a chance and you'll see that Cal didn't have a tight-end in on the play... let alone running a pattern.

The PAC 10 refs are too much. I really think they have money on some of the games.

It's too bad only a few states got to see this game.

Both defenses played incredible and it's a shame to have the refs get in the way.

Cal's defense was studly, holding USC to their lowest scoring this year. Taking away their first TD (the catch was BS), and give us back Vereen's TD, the game score would have been even. Not to say that we would win this game. SC is a really good team. But our defense really held its own.

No it's not because the rest of the country outside of California didn't give a rats dick about this game.

WAAAAAAHHHHHHH

Texas had a phantom hold called against us last week that negated a big gain. The next play was a blitz in our own end and McCoy was picked for a TD. There was more holding by TT's o-line than I have ever seen in a game. They got called once. Bottom line is scoreboard. TT won and so did USC.

Kal should have never had the 3 points, those 2 calls that wiped out USC interceptions on that FG drive were horrible.

Pac 10 refs are the worst in the world, Have yet to see a replay of the game but perhaps you can find video of it and we can see if the end had infact covered the tight end or not.

It's funny that people that didn't see the game.... have these views.

It should have been 10-3 Cal.... with 3 minutes left in the game.

$C's TD was a dropped 30 yard TD pass.... and Cal's TD was a legit TD that was called back. There wasn't an ineligible receiver down field. It was so mind boggling that they ran the replay around 7 times and couldn't see an ineligible player down field. So the announcers finally had to say it must have been an illegal formation (which it wasn't) and that wasn't even the call.

Cal got screwed.

a bigger beatdown by the Trojans? I agree. How the USC D only allows 3 pts yet doesn't cover an 18 point spread is mind boggling.

Find us a you tube replay so we can see it. Otherwise it is nothing but whining.

And if you base your arguement at all on what the TV guys say, you have no leg to stand on. Those guys should be forced to train with officials for a year as part of the job.

dont forget to show the "late hit" that took away the interception in Cals FG drive, that game should have been another USC shutout.

Lets say all you said got called your way.

It would be 13-10 final, USC.

If the USC TD wouldve been called right, they wouldve at least got 3.

Still working on finding a you tube replay.

This is what I saw at the snap of the ball....

X.....................TGCGT........................X
.........X...................X..........................
.........................BQ............................

When the offense line up. Both Xs on the the LEFT of the formation were on..but then one came off before the snap and was set. Which meant all the X's could legally run down field. Nobody was covered up...it was a botched call by the officials.

Ok, I found it.

Cal stops $C once again in it's tracks.... and takes over at their own 21 yard line and within a few plays they march down for the tying touchdown (which should really be the TD that gives them a 7 point lead... due to $C dropped pass that was called a TD).

At the 1:25 mark of the video... you'll see Tucker make the "catch of the year".... then on the following play is when Cal goes in for the TD. They have multiple replays of the formation and TD.

This was a HUGE turning point in the game as Cal was starting to roll.

at 3:01 when they show the first replay.. it looks like the two receivers at the top of the screen are both on the LOS. I dont know. just what it looks like... it might have been a bad call but it was only 2nd quarter with 11 and change to play.. you cant blame the refs for making a bad call at the beginning of the game.. it was only first down.. its not all the refs fault..

so i went to espn and looked at the drive chart.. ended this drive with a INT.. after this drive cal had the ball 5 more times (6 if you count the 1 play final "drive") but only net 28 yards, on 19plays.. that is why cal lost the game. it had nothing to do with a blown call in the third..

cal didnt get "screwed" Cal didnt play well enough to with the game plain and simple. you cant blame the refs every game. the players have to make plays. 28 yds on 19 plays speaks volumes.

its not like you got jobbed on the last play of the game.

refs do a good job, for the most part, but decent coaches understand they're going to get shit on a couple times a game, not to mention get away with rape a time or two themselves. michigan was inexplicably handed a td against msu a few weeks ago. msu's response was to outscore umich from that point on. cal's was to, well, lose. the most effective way to protect your team from blown calls is to put your team in a position to not be affected.

Ummmm.... you're obviously not going to be able to grasp the point that it should have been a 10-3 Cal lead with 3 minutes left in the game... not the other way around.

This, of course, would mean that the game was actually "called" as it actually happened.

If someone gets a TD legally.... give them the damn TD!!!

If someone drops the ball in the endzone.... don't give them a fucking TD!!!

If you haven't noticed.... $C fan isn't disputing anything I've said about their TD that shouldn't have happened.... or that Cal didn't deserve their TD.

That should tell you something.

Coulda, woulda, shoulda...quit your bitching. There were bad calls for both sides. Bottom line is all that crap you spewed about Best and speed and all purpose yards and interceptions didn't mean shit. Kal got shutdown and shutdown hard. USC was the team that did enough to overcome some bad penalty calls and Kal didn't. 'BODE!

Oh and .m2ool, I will also say that I don't think the TD catch by Turner was a sure thing being overturned either.

I'm wondering why the replay officials didn't buzz down to the field like they are always so quick to do.

I'm also wondering why the great Jeff Tedford didn't use his coaches challenge on that play.

I agree with .m2 on this. The WR at the top of the screen does step up and appears to get set.

Problem is the guy who caught the TD pass was already in motion. So for this play to be legal, the motion man would also have to come to a complete stop and set again. He didn't and therefore the play was illegal.

Further by stepping up it looks like the guy at the top of the screen covers the inside slot. Both of these WR then go downfield. This would be totally legal had the pass been completed behind the LOS. When it wasn't it makes the slot guy a covered lineman. Further Tedford's reaction says a ton. Dude was completely ok with the call and prolly hoped his guys got away with one. If he thought the officials just butt fucked him in the mouth he would have made a huge fuss.

I will say that not reporting a number is a horrible gaffe and the guys involved should be downgraded.

.m2,

Bottom line is this play was illegal. Even if the slot wasn't covered, which it appears he is, this play still comes back for the illegal shift. Same enforcement, same down and distance.
