What if...
1. Texas Tech wins the next two, but loses to Missouri in the Big 12 championship game.
2. Alabama beats Auburn, but loses to Florida in the SEC championship game.
3. Oregon State wins out to claim half of the Pac 10 championship.
This scenario probably moves Florida to BCS #1, but who would they get in the BCS championship? Texas and Oklahoma are the next in line right now, but neither would even be in the championship game for their conference. My guess would be that the voters would leapfrog USC (shared championship in a shitty conference) into the #2 spot.
Sentimental choice would be tOSU.

Though I'd love for it to play out that way, I really don't see Tech beating OU.Goober McTuber wrote:1. Texas Tech wins the next two, but loses to Missouri in the Big 12 championship game.
Both scenarios are very likely.2. Alabama beats Auburn, but loses to Florida in the SEC championship game.

Should all 3 come to pass, I think Penn State re-enters the discussion. This scenario probably moves Florida to BCS #1, but who would they get in the BCS championship? Even if OU beats Tech, as long as Missouri wins the championship game the BCS has a dilema lining up Florida's oponent. No way PSU climbs over USC.War Wagon wrote:Though I'd love for it to play out that way, I really don't see Tech beating OU.Goober McTuber wrote:1. I've been thinking of posting something along the same lines -- namely the honks' worst nightmare:Goober McTuber wrote:Even if OU beats Tech, as long as Missouri wins the championship game the BCS has a dilema lining up Florida's oponent. No way PSU climbs over USC.
If Mizzou wins the Big XII championship game (not an outrageous chance by any stretch, given that it will be a virtual home game for them at Arrowhead in cold weather) ...
There is a possibility that one of the Big XII south teams that DOESN'T make the Big XII championship game, will move up in the standings to play in the MNC game.
In other words, if OU wins out, they very likely would jump Texas in the BCS standings. But if OU loses to Mizzouri, Texas could end up playing in the MNC game ... sort of like what happened when Nebraska backed into the MNC game a few years ago, even though they didn't even play in the Big XII title game.

Oh, I dunno'....Goober McTuber wrote:No way PSU climbs over USC.
IF PSU beats 15th ranked MSU, maybe that gives them enough of a SoS boost in the computer rankings?
Let's hope so.

No. And certainly not enough to move past whatever is left of Texas, Texas Tech and Oklahoma currently sitting ahead of them. If Alabama’s only loss is to Florida in the SEC championship, the Tide might not even drop below PSU.War Wagon wrote:Oh, I dunno'....Goober McTuber wrote:No way PSU climbs over USC.

What if UF were to lose to FSU and then beat Alabama? Would UF be able to move up above all the teams that would be between them.Goober McTuber wrote:1. Texas Tech wins the next two, but loses to Missouri in the Big 12 championship game.

You could still get Texas vs. USC.

Re: What if...
I'm gonna' crawl out on limb here and predict the MNC will be Oklahoma vs. Florida.

If Oklahoma beats Texas Tech, what’s the criteria for deciding the 3-way tie in the Big 12 South?
Re: What if...
If OU, Tech and Texas are tied, the team with the highest BCS rating goes to the Big XII title game.Goober McTuber wrote:If Oklahoma beats Texas Tech, what’s the criteria for deciding the 3-way tie in the Big 12 South?
That's why if Mizzou beats any of those teams in the Big XII title game, the one that is left out has a real shot of getting to the MNC game.
The system, as it is now, would essentially reward a team that doesn't even get to go to its own conference championship game.

You forgot about this . . .SoCalTrjn wrote:Texas vs USC works
If Florida wins out in the regular season (their remaining opponents are The Citadel and Florida State) and wins the Meatgrinder championship, there's no way to keep them out of the national championship game. None.2. Alabama beats Auburn, but loses to Florida in the SEC championship game.
The Meatgrinder championship game becomes a de facto semifinal game if Alabama and Florida both win out.

I think he was repsonding to my scenario that if everything mentioned in the first post occurred AND UF lost to FSU, then you could potentially get Texas vs. USC.Terry in Crapchester wrote:You forgot about this . . .SoCalTrjn wrote:Texas vs USC works

Re: What if...
Only if they blow out Tech. Texas is two spots above them, and Texas beat Oklahoma by 10 points. Texas lost at the very end of a close game with Tech. I'd say Texas gets the nod in a 3-way tie.War Wagon wrote:Yep, and I believe the nod will go to OU.RadioFan wrote:If OU, Tech and Texas are tied, the team with the highest BCS rating goes to the Big XII title game.Goober McTuber wrote:If Oklahoma beats Texas Tech, what’s the criteria for deciding the 3-way tie in the Big 12 South?

Re: What if...
However it works out, assuming OU beats Tech, there will be howls of protest coming from one side or the other.

No doubt. And in all likelihood, with good reason, depending on what happens.War Wagon wrote:However it works out, assuming OU beats Tech, there will be howls of protest coming from one side or the other.
