Hearing McGuffie is transferring? Any reason? Is this a hoax?
Re: Michigan Guys
the real deal, apparently. i read it on mgoblog and then filtered through the comments. i found someone saying he has a friend on the team who says he isn't leaving, another whose friend knows mcguffie but hasn't heard anything, someone else who... and then it degenerated into SCREW YOU BITCH MY SOURCES ARE BETTER THAN YOURS I'M SO IN WITH THE PROGRAM BITCH FUCK YOU... and i'm still confused.
i actually had a hunch about this earlier this week when mcguffie wasn't available because of a death in the family. for some reason i thought, transfer, and lo and behold, i'm ready to get on mgoblog and type SCREW YOU BITCH I HAD A FEELING I'M RIGHT FUCK YOU I'M IN THE PSYCHIC KNOW.

Wonderful...
Re: Michigan Guys
whatevs. i'd obviously love to see him stick around, but this doesn't seem to be mallet- or borenesque. i don't regard a blog's comments section as journalistically sound, but the consensus seems to be that he's lonely, introverted, and that ann arbor just isn't the place for him. considering he chose michigan over cal after saying something to the effect of "i signed with my head, not my heart," i can only wish him the best, best meaning that no phantom calls against him are the cause of another one of m2ool's spam threads.

Re: Michigan Guys
Too bad but the writing was on the wall when he held himself out of the NW game. He was cleared to play and had practiced all week. I thought then and there that he was probably gone. Either that or he lacked the heart to play at this level. As a player he was ok, not spectacular. He runs too high and takes a great deal of punishment. I saw him concussed, pile driven, and bent in unnatural ways during the year. As the season wore on it was clear to me that he would be a part-timer in this offense as injuries would most certainly nag at him throughout his career.
I wish him well, whatever he does. I think he'd be wise to hang around and pick up a UM degree. He cannot possibly see himself as an NFL'er so a UM sheepskin would serve him well down the line. If the accounts of depression are indeed true, I hope he gets the help he needs.

McGuffie wanted to go to Cal but his family was following him and the economic dynamic in the Bay Area is very difficult for most families.

how is mcguffie a punching bag? he's been given ample playing time and any criticism he's endured has been followed by mention of his freshman status, that he'll eventually grow into a great player. i think he only came to michigan to honor his initial commitment and that buyer remorse kicked in before he'd even bought a thing. i hope things work out well for him at cal.

Re: Michigan Guys
and the rest of your post proves it. McGuffie was somewhat of a fan favorite. For much of the season he led the team in both rushing and recieving. He's either suffering from depression or homesickness. Nothing like a Michigan winter to send your ass crawling back south.88 wrote:I have no information on this whatsoever

It was a bit of a surprise that he did go through with his commitment to Michigan after Lloyd left and considering the depth this program always has at running back. He was given chances early in the season make an impact and I thought he played quite well behind a rebuilt offensive line. I'm not going to call him a turncoat or anything because this program doesn't have an identity yet and some of the guys in that uniform know what they are buying into. I think it's all a product of this transition. This incoming freshmen class will be coming here and acknowledging who is in charge and what direction the program will hopefully go. If Sam feels more comfortable somewhere else...it's a free country, more power to him. I'll definitely grow to appreciate those who stick through this rough patch and hopefully they and the program are the better for it.

Frankly, I am pretty impressed with you guys and the response to this situation. My initial reaction was shock and I feel like I would have been pissed if it were happening to tOSU. But you guys seem pretty level headed and I think thats pretty cool.
Would it piss you off if he came to tOSU?

Re: Michigan Guys
it's probably because we shot our loads a bit early. i fumed after the utah game, gave my girlfriend a black eye after the notre dame game, and shot my dog after illinois, but i've been relatively calm ever since once i realized we're just not that good. i'd have probably been able to sustain the rage had dickrod not been in his first year because i'd have someone to blame for driving the program into the ground. we're close, though. we should win at least seven games, and THE game should be somewhat competitive.Sky wrote:Frankly, I am pretty impressed with you guys and the response to this situation. no one cares about geographic particulars here. i'm pretty sure the point has more to do with schlepping your family around even though they can't afford a new house..m2 wrote:Someone needs to let "Frisco" know...... $C isn't in the Bay Area.
re: mcguffie and his family, i don't see what home values have to do with his college choice. there's this housing option called renting, so if cal's where he absolutely wanted to be i'm sure the family could've swung it. i'm still going with the fact he went to michigan to honor his initial commitment, so if he ends up at cal you can at least be satisfied with his character.

ESPN.com reports he'll play vs. Ohio State.
the truth
Near signing day in February, McGuffie was talking football with California coaches. He visited Berkeley and was very impressed.
“I really liked (Cal's) offense,” McGuffie told the Houston Chronicle. “And (California) coach (Jeff) Tedford was a great guy. I haven't met too many people like him in my life. Plus, California was beautiful. I had never been there before, and it's a great place."
Michigan had changed coaches, hiring Rich Rodriguez, who brought in the spread offense. The night before signing day, McGuffie still wasn’t sure how he fit in.

Michigan update: Threet, Schilling out; McGuffie returns
by John Heuser | The Ann Arbor News
Friday November 21, 2008, 5:01 PM
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The unranked University of Michigan football team will be without quarterback Steven Threet and right tackle Steve Schilling for Saturday's matchup with No. 10 Ohio State, Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez said Friday.
Threet will miss the game because of a shoulder injury he suffered last week. Schilling sprained a knee in practice Tuesday, and will be replaced in the starting lineup by redshirt sophomore Perry Dorrestein.
Nick Sheridan will start his fourth game at quarterback for Michigan and the second-stringer will be freshman Justin Feagin.
"(Feagin has) gotten more reps this week at quarterback than he has all season really because of Steve's injury," Rodriguez said before his team's walk-through at Ohio Stadium. "We'll get him in the flow like we did a few weeks ago and hopefully he'll be able to contribute some."
During Michigan's win over Minnesota in early November, Feagin rushed for 49 yards.
In other personnel news, Rodriguez said freshman running back Sam McGuffie has returned from a family member's funeral in Texas and will play against the Buckeyes.
Juniors Brandon Minor and Carlos Brown, along with McGuffie and fellow freshman Mike Shaw will get time at tailback, Rodriguez added.
First game in Columbus
As Rodriguez and his team stepped off the buses outside Ohio Stadium, they were greeted by a bitter wind and a light snowfall.
Asked for his initial impressions of the massive venue, Michigan's first-year coach said: "Obviously they've got a lot of seats in there. I don't think there will be a whole lot of them for our fans... It's gonna be a tough environment. We know that. The best way for us to handle it is to play well."
I hope he gets himself right. Good luck to him whether he stays or goes.

news: worth the fuss? at year's beginning we would hope any of our running backs could take a hit without fumbling. now we hope they can take a hit without getting concussed.

Re: Michigan Guys
just read an account of michigan's end-of-the-year football bust [fitting term, eh] and sam mcguffie, along with the other known quitters, wasn't in attendance. there was speculation that he might be staying put, but that's probably it. i guess tedford can live with the fact he played mcguffie into is 15th concussion. oh, brandon graham was pretty balls out about making sure the team was much better next year, which is a great sign for us: [1] uh, ja, better than this, and [2] that he's coming back.
Re: Michigan Guys
Looking for a link but from what I'm hearing on the radio today, McGuffie is out...heading to a Big XII school to be closer to home.

he may have been inspired by all the production ATM gets from the RB position over the last decade. look at the careers of Mike Goodson, "novelty" backs like J. Lane and Jamaar Toombs....and sackful of Derek Farmer types over the years. I'm pressed to think of a really good back at ATM (with a career of meeting expectations) since Leland McElroy. from a purely football sense, being the kind of back McGuffie is, playing for Leach or Gundy makes a lot more sense to me.

I am guessing with Goodsons departure for the NFL he wants to step in and see if he can continue the mediocrity that has been his teams.

eh? you're going to be in michigan? i'm looking at a week in that shit hole. i'll make use of the time by reshooting "it's so cold in the d" with me in the lead, as long as i can locate a pair of orange braids.
but now that you mention it, i'm probably going to have to ask that blind lead a pub crawl. the last time i was in aa i found all my spots closed down. ok, only a couple, but one was where you dropped $8 for three large long islands before heading out to the other bars that charged $5 for a miller lite.
