OT: Hey Skull...

Post by MiketheangrydrunkenCUfan »

So with the recession in full swing, I've been exploring the wonderful world of bargain basement beers. I picked up a 30-pack of Natty Ice the other day for $15.99 and found it to be surprisingly drinkable. Plus, at 5.9% ABV, that shit hits you like a pale ale. I know you've been an ardent supporter of Natty Light for many years, so I was just wondering if you've ever tried Natty Ice and if so, what are your thoughts? I give it very high marks.

not Skull, but i was grad student long enough that i did many summers worth of bargain beer tasting.

Natty was pretty high up the list. As was Hamm's. Meister Brau isn't too bad.

Somebody actually LIKES Natty Light? What the fuck? I thought that shit was only for college kids that pretended to like it because they can't afford anything better?? Actually, that shit was even horrible by college standards- at least in my opinion. We'd at least get Busch Light. Same cost, both crappy beers but on a tight budget you could make do. Natty Light.....wouldn't even touch that shit in college. But then again, I rarely drank Busch in college. I went for the Miller Light or the Budweiser back then. About as much as I could afford back then.

Don't get me wrong. All things being equal, I'd take a Stella or a Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA or a Rogue Shakespeare Stout or any number of other beers over a Natty Ice in a heartbeat. I'm just saying that compared to the other beers in its price range (and even some that are more expensive), Natty Ice is pretty deece. Helluva lot better than PBR, which has inexplicably found a niche as the ironic hipster beer of choice lately. Better than Jon's beloved Busch. Way, way better than Miller High Life.

When cost is an issue, it's the way to go. It's cheap, and it's drinkable. The difference, taste-wise, between the Natural, and other domestic A.B. products is minuscule. I've grown to prefer Miller Lite over the years, but, I'm hardly an expert anymore. I had 5 tall beers at Buffalo Wild Wings last night, the first time I've gone out drinking in a LONG time, and this morning I feel like Rick James punched me in the f*cking forehead.

But yeah, Natty is the way, the truth, and the Light. Enjoy it! ...and spend the money you save on something nice for yourself... like toilet paper, or Totinos pizzas.
