Without looking it up, I'll venture a guess that maybe they played Hawaii at Hawaii. You have the option of a 13th game if you do that.

Gotcha. I knew the 13th game was against UH. Just didn't realize a special exemption existed for playing one particular team (even if said team resides in the middle of the Pacific Ocean).

Other than the CCG's, that's the only exemption that still survives. Others (e.g., preseason games) went by the wayside. Imho, the NCAA has to give that concession to Hawaii so that Hawaii doesn't have to play their entire schedule on the road.
