ESPN braketology
ok, noticed ESPN already has their brackets going, as to who they think will make it,
i noticed they have KU vs MU in first round matchup, but here is my question:
Q: Has 2 teams from same conference ever faced each other in first round matchup(since its been 64 teams)????

Re: ESPN braketology
i doubt it. i think it's a pretty recent rules change to do with "travel costs" which means "1st round ticket sales" in the post-pod system NCAA double-speak. i thought i saw something about that...but i thought it was the second round.
I haven't seen the actual "bracketology" but I assume that game is in KC.

By rule two teams from the same conference can not play each other until the elite 8.

You'd have to throw away that rule if you get a league who receives 9 bids.Shine wrote:By rule two teams from the same conference can not play each other until the elite 8.

Re: ESPN braketology
We'll see what the committee does this year since the Big East should get 9 teams in this year with an outside shot at a 10th. My guess is they'll put 3 in one region where you have say a UCon as the 1 seed and <insert Big East team> as a 12 leaving a potential Sweet 16 match-up possible but unlikely.

That rule was changed. I believe it is the Sweet 16 now and possibly even the 2nd round.Shine wrote:By rule two teams from the same conference can not play each other until the elite 8.

Probably changed because of the Big East, but I looked at last year's bracket and no two teams from the same conference could have played each other until the elite 8.SunCoastSooner wrote:That rule was changed. and Joe Lunardi sucks. he stole his whole gig from Jerry Palm. after Palm's RPI breakdown tournament bracket website in the late 90's any moron can pick about 90% of the tournament between 2 seeds.

True, although you might have to wait until the conference tourneys play out.King Crimson wrote:and Joe Lunardi sucks. he stole his whole gig from Jerry Palm. after Palm's RPI breakdown tournament bracket website in the late 90's any moron can pick about 90% of the tournament between 2 seeds.
