Anybody here have Dish network?
Thinking of shit canning directv - tired of the pricing games they play.
I can get 200 channels + HBO/Showtime + 2 DVRs + 2 Receivers (4 rooms total) for $73 per month.
$20 cheaper than Directv and we only have 1 DVR now, and have split another receiver
Wondering if anyone has any experience with the Dish?

I've had it for about three years. It has been good for me, but I'll be switching to Verizon FIOS TV when it becomes available in the city of Pittsburgh - bundling it with my FIOS internet service.

What's the up/Down on that fios internet? The whole package just became available here, but I've read on some forums that people have had problems with fios tv, and that verizons tech support sucks. I can change anytime, but I'd like to know more about it. I'm currently a Directv user and have no problem with that set up.

I have dish for about 2 years now. Got it in a bundle with ATT internet/phone.
It's OK, but, if you think they won't play the say pricing bullshit with you, you are mistaken. They all play the same fukking game. Draw you in with a decent offer, then put the screws to you, hoping that you won't go through the PITA of switching again.
I think I am going to go to one of those internet service dealios myself. I wanna get that home phone through the net deal that is 25 bucks a year with free long distance.
How is your DTV in bad weather? Reasonably heavy rain will nock it out. Makes me miss my cable when that shit happens, usually on one of the rare occasions that there is something good on.

If you go online and read reviews of different services, you'll read 15,987 stories of terror and woe about every single available service.
I've never had Dish-specific weather issues. Generally, if I have power, I have my Dish service.
FIOS - similar. I have had no problems at all since moving over to that service. It's ridiculously fast, and while it is a bit expensive, it will get cheaper when I can bundle my TV with it. Overall, I'll be paying around 100/mo. for digital TV, local phone, and fiber internet. Pretty sweet.

Re: Anybody here have Dish network?
Bunch of dumbfucks.
Verizon sent me a flyer TO MY HOUSE, offering a bundle of phone internet and TV for $99 a month for 1 year, Plus a free DVR for a year.
I go to the website and put in my address? NONE of those services are available in my area.

Re: Anybody here have Dish network?
They have FIOS in suburban MD and NO VA, but they don't have it here in the District yet. I don't care, if it was available here, I'd pick it up in a heartbeat. I've already been through the wringer more than a handful of times with Comcast. Anything is better than those fucks.
Bushice, yep. Wash Post was running huge 2-page ads advertising FIOS, but not available in DC. Fuckers.

Re: Anybody here have Dish network?
Anyone here ever worked in a call center (or know someone who has)? One reason why I think Comcast has such shitty customer service (other than being a monopoly) is that their call center peeps get "commission" or some sort of financial bonus if they take a payment from you. Can only explain why, when you call for help with a billing problem, they say "I can't help you with that, we're only a call payment center. But I can take a payment from you..."
My latest dealing with Comcrap was how another customer on another account bounced a $200 check, but Comcast accidentally posted it to MY account. So out of nowhere, I get a disconnection notice and a "Pay $250 in two days or get your shit turned off noticed." And, of course, I have to call four different times and talk to four different people before a lady nice enough to actually investigate my problem got it taken care of for me. Everyone else just said "Can't help you, but I can take your money." FUCK YOU.

Re: Anybody here have Dish network?
I'm hot and cold with Comcast...they're coming out on Monday morning to bring out out my HD box with DVR to hook up to my new plasma. I was thinking for a while about going to DirecTV for my HD service but I'll give Comcast a try first since I've got my internet with them. I've got Vonage phone service...paying only $18-19 a month on that. It'll be around $70-75 for my HD/digital cable and internet. I don't have a blowout package on cable...just the basics but I've got NHL Center Ice. I'd buy their sports tier when they finally make NHL Network available in my area. I'll probably order HBO in the new few months.

Do you know how many HD games you can get with Center Ice?

One or two at the most each night...the Wings, Sharks or Bruins games are usually in HD. Definitely not enough...I'd like see to a handful a night at the very least.

They have varying speeds but I have the 10/2 package and I play a lot of online games with absolutely no problem and I don't have a top of the line PC either. Tech support isn't really needed if you know how to reset your router every once in a while and honestly I've never had any significant issue where I had to call them.
If you have specific questions I can probably give you a better idea if it's worth your time to switch. I've never had a Dish but I have family members who do have one who swear they are switching to FIOS once it becomes available.
Re: Anybody here have Dish network?
Last I knew, DirecTV had more HD channels. Which is what matters most to me as I've become a complete HD snob. To each their own. Other than that it's personal opinion. Dish is generally known to be cheaper than DTV.
What is not debatable is the fact that Dish is absolutely hemorrhaging business and money in every way imaginable. They had to pay Tivo over a $100 million in a lawsuit and they have been losing (as opposed to gaining) subscribers every quarter this year, while DTV has shown a lot of gain (I think it's 300,000 vs -40,000 in the last two quarters). Also, Dish's contract with AT&T to offer those triple play packages (phone, TV and internet) comes to an end in January. That partnership accounts for 17% of their subscribers. DirecTV will be AT&T's new partner for that. A lot of analysts believe that Dish will lose an obscene number of customers in 2009 as they will no longer be able to compete with DTV, the cable companies or the telco's.
I guess what I'm saying is caveat emptor.

DirecTV has more programming, period.
Dish's only hope for survival was to merge with DirecTV- now that the merger is off, it's only a matter of time until Dish goes tits up
by all means, scott, make the switch, genius

All the merger talk between DTV and Dish got heated up again after the Sirius and XM merger. I wish I could find the exact quote but some analyst was asked if DTV would look to merge with Dish and he said something along the lines that DTV can just wait a year and watch Dish implode and take all their business without paying a dime for it. Of course, if Dish were to go under, not all the business would go to DTV as much of it would go to cable or the telco's. The point is still valid though.Cuda wrote:DirecTV has more programming, period.

and Direct tv has 1 or 2 sports packages that Dish doesnt have, other than that, Dish network is a much better product
also, Dish is going nowhere. they are partners with ATT for their new cable tv service. its all of dish networks service, with no dish. Best shit going. I don't need NFL package, so, direct tv is worthless to me. i had direct tv for a year, nothing special, and doesnt have channels Dish does.
Re: Anybody here have Dish network?
Looked over the ATT U-Verse for comparable package (220 channels, HBO / Showtime) is $98 per month. Still $26 more than Dish.
I'd save $5 on my DSL but that's not worth it.
Did some more research on Echostar - they don't appear to be going tits up anytime soon.

A financial fucking genius such as yourself is worried about a measly $26 a month?

There is this... NFL Network...
I may be posting with less frequency because... I have found t.v. nirvana.
This could be the cure for the Feb-July blues.

velo, if you posted with less frequency you'd be flatlining.
Re: Anybody here have Dish network?
And $26 a month equals $312 per year - which I'm sure is about the same size as your most recent comission on a foreclosure in Saudi AuroraCuda wrote:A financial fucking genius such as yourself is worried about a measly $26 a month?
Hmmm.....
Saving $312 a year is $312 saved - Sounds like financial fucking genius.

You're right about one thing - Dish is going absolutely nowhere.
