OK, you're naive.
A) LA ain't all that terribly close... california is a big place, bro.
B) CC is from Vallejo (where a friend of mine coached him in little league-btw). If you'd ever been to Vallejo, you'd understand why someone who grew up there (sup Jeff Gordon) would want to move as far away as possible. Superlative shithole.

Going back to this . . .
Of course, Giambi was probably going to be gone from the Yankees no matter what. Too much salary and too little productivity to justify picking up the option on his contract at age 37. Not to mention the admitted steroid use.Shoalzie wrote:A pair of Windy City swaps:

Swisher seemed to be an odd man out in Chicago and they add a versatile infielder in Betemit. Swisher coming in probably means the end of Jason Giambi in the Bronx.

I don't think the Blo Sox are out of the Texiera running anymore than the Nats and HO's still have a chance. I think this is just a bit more posturing. I still think it's coming down to Boston or Anaheim.

...and this is the reason I'm beginning to hate the fucking Yankees. Don't they get it? Look at TB, Philly, and the other teams over the years that have had success. Fuck look at your own success from the late 90's when you won with home grown talent. Fuck them, I'm so Gd sick and tired of these huge money guys taking more money just because it's more money. I'm on the way to becoming a Royals fan.

So you can root for ownership to take more money just because it's more money?

Jeter, Rivera, Pettitte, Posada, Williams, Leyritz, Ramiro Mendoza, Ledee, Spencer, among others.
What they did intelligently was made trades for those guys you mention. My problem is the Kevin Brown, Carl Pavano, Jaret Wright, Gary Sheffield, Hideki Irabu, Damon, etc.....shit head FA signings they made for huge money and they're back to their ways of the 70's and 80's where they're throwing money around like there's no tomorrow. Why spend so damn much money for CC Pavano when you can go after a guy like Ben Sheets, or Peavy for a hell of a lot less and they're comparable pitchers.
That's all I'm saying. Go smart instead of tossing tons of money around.

How about Boston signing Brad Penny and Josh Bard?
Penny is every bit as good as Beckett. He had a 6-9 record last year and that's similar to the down year Beckett had his last year with the Marlins and everyone was like "he sucks"
So basically they have three aces now plus Dice-K. Thanks for coming.

Penny isn't a staff ace. Never has been. Never will be. Nice #3 or 4. But he's only gone over 200 innings twice in his career.
And who the hell is Josh Bard?
*Edit- all you need to know about what the Red Sox think of Penny is contained in his incentive laden contract. He has to reach 160 innings for some major bonuses to kick in.... 160 innings??

Dude you conveniently forget that All Star game when Penny was out there mowing down guys left and right with that wicked fastball. Dude is a horse just like Beckett....he'll give them 17 wins this year.

Not a bad move for the Rays. Burrell can DH and provide some extra pop in that lineup.

Brewers sign Hoffman
http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd ... &fext=.jsp
Hoffman was one of the last established closers left on the market...he'll be a more stable option for the Brewers, who's had a revolving door at closer in recent years with Cordero, Turnbow, Gagne, Torres among others.
Baldelli signs with Red Sox; Smoltz close to signing
http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd ... &fext=.jsp
http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd ... &fext=.jsp
The Smoltz signing is strange only because the Red Sox had already signed Brad Penny.
Giambi returns to the A's
http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd ... &fext=.jsp
Hard to understand what directions the A's are trying to go with signing Giambi...albeit only to a one-year deal. They add Holliday and they were very aggressive in trying to get Furcal.
Chad Cordero to throw for scouts...Tigers among the teams interested
http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd ... p&c_id=det
I can only hope Cordero looks good in his rehab to give the Tigers a viable option at closer to go after since the pickings are very slim.

You answered your own question. By September, Giambi will have either provided a enough of a push to that lineup for them to be contending or he'll be riding the pine with the September call-ups. Considering what they paid him, it's not a bad move.Shoalzie wrote:

What's the latest with Greene? I heard going into the offseason that he's likely on the move...is that still going to happen?

And then you've also got George Costanza's reaction to meeting Steinbrenner on "The Opposite" episode.
Not surprising, though, that a suicidal pedophile such as yourself thinks the Steinbrenners are the greatest thing since sliced bread. Lemme guess, during the 70's and 80's you used his managerial hirings and firings as a reminder of when to change your underwear.

Twins sign Joe Crede
http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd ... p&c_id=mlb
Crede was pretty much on borrowed time Chicago last year with how Fields turned heads at the end of '06. I think they lose quite a bit defensively...Crede is arguably the best glove at third in the AL. It'll be a revamped infield in Chicago with Konerko being the mainstay at first...Ramirez moves to short, Fields takes over at third and Getz or Nix at second. Crede should fit in well in Minnesota...still can hit well and is strong defensively.
