Congrats to Michael Haywood

Notre Dame alum (TiC classmate) and former OC Michael Haywood was named head coach at Miami of Ohio. This is a great move for his career, as Miami has been the training ground for some phenominal coaches (Bo, Ara, and most recently, Terry Hoeppner) and they are a name school in a very competitive conference.

Heywood and Dwayne Walker should be examples used by the BCA as assistants who busted their ass for a long time and climbed the ladder, just like other coaches, and didn't skip any rungs based on their color. They have put in their time, and both are going to be rewarded with head coaching jobs. They took the route most other coaches have to take as a GA, position coach, coordinator and then head man.

Ron English can go into the discussion as well although he displaced from Michigan to Louisville following the Lloyd regime. He's getting his shot at EMU. I made that bad joke towards the MAC but give the ADs in that conference credit for giving these guys the opportunity. This is how the next quality black coach will be discovered. Those guys aren't going to be handed the keys to a major program immediately...they get a starter program to coach and if they succeed there, the opportunity for a higher-profile job will be there for them.
