First off, who gives a rip about the Pro Bowl in general but this is just a bad idea on a couple levels. I'm sick of the two weeks between the conference championship games and the Super Bowl...never liked the extra week in between. What do you do with the players of the teams that will be in the Super Bowl? Usually the teams that end up in the Super Bowl have several players named to the Pro Bowl. Do you think teams will want to risk getting their starting QB or left tackle injured in this silly exhibition game a week before the biggest game of the season? I understand Goodell trying to get more interest in their All-Star game, which is probably the worst of the 4 major sports but this certainly isn't going to change my opinion of it. They honestly should just get rid of the game and just name players to a roster in a honorary way and leave it at that.
Stupid idea for the 2010 Pro Bowl
Re: Stupid idea for the 2010 Pro Bowl
the pro bowl was never anything more than a reward for the players- a free week in hawaii and a "game" in which injury avoidance was the top priority for all concerned.
why fuck with it?

LOL uh, I'm sure players in that year's Superbowl are not going to be in the Pro-Bowl. That will be their gift for success.
LOL come on, you think the teams and league are going to have players take a break inbetween the last playoff and SB?
This is to draw some interest and reduce the break from the non-playoff particpants by two weeks. Plus it kills the long lag. This was no brainer.

Re: Stupid idea for the 2010 Pro Bowl
I heard about this plan a couple of weeks ago, evidently the thinking is Super Bowl participants wouldn't play in the Pro Bowl. I agree the Pro Bowl is a dinosaur that doesn't generate much excitement except for fans in Hawaii these days. Playing in Miami is an idea that generates even less interest IMO.

Are they still going to have the losing coaches of the conference games be the head coaches for the Pro Bowl, or will Goodell have the winning coaches of the Hall of Fame Game do it?

Re: Stupid idea for the 2010 Pro Bowl
As I understan d, the idea is to have the Pro Bowl at the Super Bowl host city's stadium. Not half bad if it's Miami. But I wouldn't expect much of a crowd if it's in Detroit or Minneapolis.Joe in PB wrote:I heard about this plan a couple of weeks ago, evidently the thinking is Super Bowl participants wouldn't play in the Pro Bowl.
