Left Seater......
Iowa State just hired Rice's OC Tom Herman. Can you give me your opinion on him?
Re: Left Seater......
I think this is the kind of hire Rhoads(sp?) had to make. This is a place where Chizik failed at ISU but seems to have learned his lesson at Auburn. They need a guy that's ran a dynamic O that can put some points up and attract a couple playmakers. So is Rhoads going to call his own D or bring a DC in?

i think that's true and also true about Malzahn....though i did poo poo the hire at first. still, they need to get someone who can make reads and throws at QB. a Juco Josh Heupel or Zac Taylor, if you will. something.Danimal wrote:I think this is the kind of hire Rhoads(sp?) had to make. Ya, gotta have a qb. Auburn's O will suck with Malzahn like it did under Franklin without the right guy taking snaps. Whether Arnaud is the guy to air it out for ISU's new OC Herman remains to be seen.King Crimson wrote:i think that's true and also true about Malzahn....though i did poo poo the hire at first. still, they need to get someone who can make reads and throws at QB. a Juco Josh Heupel or Zac Taylor, if you will. something.Danimal wrote:I think this is the kind of hire Rhoads(sp?) had to make. Dude is a very hard worker and, no joke, is a member of Mensa. Worked under Brown at Texas and was under Randelman at Sam Houston for their two long playoff runs. Then with Bailiff at Texas State and Rice. He just directed a 10 win season at RICE.
I think he is a great OC and I am sad to see him go. No one will out work him, and he calls a very smart game. Not sure how recruiting will go since most have not heard of him.
Wish we still had him.

Re: Left Seater......
he's got a track record of success in Texas and that's worth a lot. McCarney was pulling players out of Texas during his time at ISU...and was ahead of the curve in doing so out of the North. CU dried up in Texas once UT and OU righted ships and Neuheisel botched a couple Texas blue chips in Jeremy Weisinger and Ryan Nunez.....and lately KU and MU have got in on the "B" players. like i say, McCarney did it.Left Seater wrote: Not sure how recruiting will go since most have not heard of him.

Thanks for the replies.
The more I read of him and hear I'm very pleased with the hire. I agree that this is what Rhoads needs to do at ISU to be successful. Chizik didn't do that at ISU.
What type of offense did Rice run? Spread-type?

Man, at first I thought you were trolling me, but then the more I read it I took it as serious.
We have run the spread for the past 5 years. Our graduating QB and WR have combined for more TD passes/catches than any duo in CFB. If it can work at RICE with "our" athletes, it should work well in the Big XII. Think a combo of Texas and Mizzu with a little Tech sprinkled in.

Trolling in that I don't know much about Rice? Or that Herman was hired?Left Seater wrote:Man, at first I thought you were trolling me, but then the more I read it I took it as serious.

I get season tickets to ISU so it's harder for me to follow up on what's going on everywhere else. Plus with the season ISU just went through, most of my time was spent being intoxicated.

Are your season tickets those $99 ones that came with a $50 Applebee's coupon?? Just wondering.....minorthreat wrote:Trolling in that I don't know much about Rice? By the way, if this Rice coach is a member of Mensa shouldn't he be smart enough to know he's got a better gig at Rice than he will have at ISU??
Lefty to remind me of Iowa's struggles against ISU in Ames and Minor to tell me to fuck off in 3.......2......1......

Naw, you pointed it out yourself, plus the Mensa/ISU blast was pretty good.

We miss both of those coaches at Texas State. After years of the suck, they had the Bobcats within one overtime of playing for a 1AA championship. That was the same year they damn near beat A&M in College Station.

Damn near and doing are two totally different things. Let's not put Southwest Texas State with the upper echelon teams who have beaten A&M @ Kyle such as Arkansas State just yet, mkay?campinfool wrote:We miss both of those coaches at Texas State. Not true at all. Ask Cyclone fans. If they almost beat you, that means they beat you. Seriously. You need to learn the rules of "scoreboard". Close loss/win = win.Damn near and doing are two totally different things.
That makes Iowa 13-0, by the way.

I actually don't have to say anymore.....you constantly look like a drooling ass plug on here. I feel bad for Mace, knowing that he has deal with you being a fan of his team.TheJON wrote:Not true at all. Ask Cyclone fans. If they almost beat you, that means they beat you. Seriously. Who was ISU's hire today? I caught just a little bit of it on the 10:00 news that said he had recruiting connections in Texas but I didn't catch his name or any of the details.
We do. I just don't have to deal with any of them here. New coach was Kenith Pope from UNLV. RBs coach. Also last week, Terry Price was added from Auburn.
So far:
Paul Rhoads – head coach (Auburn)
Tom Herman – offensive coordinator/quarterbacks (Rice)
Terry Price – defensive line (Auburn)
Bill Bleil – assistant head coach/offensive line (Akron)
Scott Fountain – tight ends (Iowa State)
Chris Ash – secondary (San Diego State)
Kenith Pope – running backs (UNLV)
