As for Eddie.....

He's a great man, and a great Hawkeye (and Chief). Always friendly to Hawkeye fans he sees around. But I think he needed to step down. Not because of the pics, but because dude's got a drinking problem. I remember the Hawkeye Huddle in Orlando before the CapOne Bowl vs LSU in 2004, he came up on stage just plastered out of his mind. He kept calling Gary Dolphin (our PBP announcer) "buddy boy" and fondling him. He had a DUI back about 10 years ago too and maybe 1-2 before that. 62 year old men should not be macking on young blond skanks. Not sober ones. I haven't listened to an Iowa game on the radio (except for a few minutes every now and again late at night when they air the rebroadcast) in many years since every game since 2000 has been on TV, so I can't say I'll miss him as an announcer. But when I used to listen, I enjoyed his commentary very much. I can't even begin to try and imagine just how bad Gary Dolphin will be without him. He's a horrible PBP announcer and without Podolak he's pretty much fucked.

I still remember the time i met Podolak as a little kid. It was at some telethon my parents were working the phones for and Podolak was too. I went up to get his autograph and he smelled funky. Didn't know what it was. Just told the old man he smelled bad and he laughed. Thinking back on it, I'm certain it was booze. Dude was doing charity liquored up. Now that is fucking funny........and pathetic. Not sure which one really.

I'm going to tip my last bottle of Boulevard tonight to you Mr Podolak because there's a lot of irony in it.

As for a replacement, I'd like to see Marv Cook get the job. He's got experience in television and, imo, could easily make the adjustment to radio, but I doubt that he would be available for the job due to his high school coaching job.

You actually like Marv Cook as an announcer?? You might be the only one. He's a very boring guy. He coaches at some small school near Iowa City. Iowa City Vagina or whatever the name is. I'm pretty certain the guy would leave that $5,000 a year job to go announce Big-10 football. I really don't care who they hire because I never listen to the games except for a few minutes of the late night rebroadcast every now and again. But Marv Cook would be brutal to listen to.
