Both Pennsylvania teams are favored this weekend
Does that guarantee that they will square off in Super Bowl XLIII?
Let's break these games down....
Philadelphia at Arizona-
In January of 2002, Donovan McNabb and Kurt Warner squared off in the NFL title game, which was closer than many thought. McNabb had a chance to lead his team down the field at the end of regulation with 2:20 left and 55 yards to go for the win. On a fourth and seven, Aeneas Williams picked off McNabb to end the game. Now, they meet again, and once again Warner is at home and McNabb is on the road. The way I see it, it all comes down to how the Cardinals defense plays. They shut down the Panthers offense last week, which is much more formidable than what they go up against this week. My concern is that the 'Tards can't be consistent enough. Also, the Eagles create the fuck out of turnovers, as well as pressure. Warner is the perfect QB to dick with and be successful with doing this. Also, E. James always gets his ass shut down against kickass defenses. That's how I see this playing out. Also, Desean Jackson is due for a long return.
That was a nice couple of little home wins by the Tards but the fairy tale ends Sunday. This is like when Philly won vs. the Falcons in the NFC title game; they are just going up against inferior shit. Eagles 26, Cardinals 18
Ravens at Steelers- - I'd like to see this game if all the Ravens on defense were healthy. But they are not. Suggs is fucked and Rolle is all jacked up as well. That hurts the Ravens. Big Ben always makes a few kickass timely long bombs that demoralizes teams in close games. He'll get a couple here. One thing I am not confident in is Pittsburgh's running game. I know Cowher was saying that Willie Parker's got fresh legs right now, but that dude doesn't impress me at all. He's not going to have two straight great games like that. I like Hines Ward in this game. He's a dirty bitch who will piss off the Ravens D and be successful at it. And I forsee Dick Lebeau assraping Flacco. I do.
I think back to the Jan. '05 AFC title game when Big Ben was "no longer a rookie"
How often have you heard that about Flacco. Newsflash, dumbfucks...he's a rookie. And at some point, the rookie qb WILL show up. That's not a knock on Flacco....it's just the way it is. The right d-coordinator looks at the right piece of film at some juncture, and that will be Lebeau. I remember how "veteran" Big Ben looked that year, and then in the AFC title game, Belichick and Crennel tore him a new shithole and he threw three picks. No shame in that, it's just what happens to rookies. Raven injuries and having a rookie QB will be the difference in this game, even though the Steelers can't seem to ever win AFC title games at home in recent history. They get it here. Pittsburgh 17 Ravens 9

Something about Arizona, I don't know. I think they will be within a score late. Do they fuck up and create a spread like you mentioned? Ya know, I don't think so. I am still not overly impressed by Philly by any means so AZ has a chance in my book. Lots of Westbrook lots of Fitz and some key fuck ups by McNabb or Warner. This will sound cliche but I think it just comes down to qhich QB wins the INT contest.
I don't give a rat's ars about the above game as you prolly know.
So, AFC, yea, Flacco's worst was vs. PIT. It is very concenring. Suggs? How fucking weak, what a shitty time for this to hit.
All I gotta say is, it's go time. The Ravens honestly have no business winning this game but it will not sway me in the least from believing they can. I definitely wanted this, the team wants this, eveyrone 'cetp my wuss rep that was cheering for San Diego. What a wuss. This is it! it's nervous time, the kick off is coming and then the eggs will be cooling.
Just no 1st quarter turnovers, settle down and it's a game. Give up a strike on their possession and a TO and it's game over.

Re: Both Pennsylvania teams are favored this weekend
Listened/watched a few of the guys from NFL Films this past week on the local radio and tv... for some very odd reason, they said Panthers didn't start to blitz Warner until the 2nd half of the game. They also went single coverage on Fitzgerald on most defensive series. Dawkins was on Dan Patrick earlier this week and said he was surprised at just how often Fitzgerald had single coverage.
Fundamentally this is the exact opposite of how Johnson calls his defense. Expect to see the Eagles blitz early and often, going with a nickel secondary most of the game since the Cardinals don't have a true TE to worry about.
If Warner is able to find the hot read then the chess match is on but if the Eagles get turnovers, the defense will either have provided a score or at least given the offense good field position and it could be a long day for the Cardinals.
My prediction
Eagles 31
Cardinals 20

Philadelphia at Arizona
The eagle defense will play a lot smarter and better than the Panther defense did last week.
And don't look for McNubb to repeatedly hand the ball over to the 'Tardinals like Bobby Bouchet did.
Eagles win 26-17
Baltimore at Pittsburgh
The Crows will crumble the Steeler O-Line and Ben will be under the gun all day long.
Baltimore gets just enough offense to gut-out a TOUGH road win.
Ravens win 16-13

I have to say I am excited about the prospect of an in-state Stupor Bowel. There would be some good smack flowing between the cities.

... and some VICTORY lager on the line I suppose?

I will readily concede microbrew dominance to philly, my friend. Nothing short of an explosion out your way.

Other than Victory, what are some of the other micros out of Philly? I figured there would be more local breweries in the DC area, but I think the closest is a brewery in Fredrick.

VICTORY technically isn't out of Philly. It's brewery is located in Downingtown PA which is a suburb of Philly. The micro out of Philly aren't much to talk about. Yards is ok and Noddinghead is up and coming but VICTORY is by far the best micro in the area and one of the best in the state IMHO.Screw_Michigan wrote:Other than Victory, what are some of the other micros out of Philly? Oh and congrats to the Cardinals on their victory. They came out and lit the Eagles up offensively in the 1st half and put together a great drive when they needed it in the second half.

I don't think we could have done much better than that. The PHI/AZ game was outstanding all things considered and BAL/PIT did not disappoint.
It was clear that PHI/AZ were two decent teams that can compete in the NFC and it was clear that PIT is still a flat out better team than B-More.
I guess I should have ran with the spreads but damn I hate knowing what I am going to see on tv before it plays out so often, lol.
I swear to christ I was saying, "No pick, no pick here and at least we will get the ball back for one last drive."
INTERCEPTED! Touchdown!
They hung in there though. Tough D kept them in it even after the 1st quarter hole which was a lot better than what it should have been.
Ravens get mad props but it's only going to be tougher in the AFC next year. NWE will be back full force and getting by TEN will be no gimme.
Go get 'em Troy, you Trojan dog!
Save me!

*yawn.
You really needed to throw in a comment about the fans throwing batteries, booing Santa or cheering an injured player to make this effective but I guess that's just how stale Philly fan smack is these days.
Re: Both Pennsylvania teams are favored this weekend
JD Drew D-Cell Battery Night was arguably the single greatest moment in sports history. How any could hate on a great moment of crowd participation and coming together is beyond me.

I'll remember that when Philly fan drives one of the best QBs in the NFL out of town this year or next. Not to mention the coach who has gotten the Eagles to 5 conference championship games in 9 years and has had only one losing season in that span.jiminphilly wrote:*yawn.BSmack wrote:I'm sure some drunken Philadelphians have already booed it.

You give the fans too much credit, B. The Eagles organization is a cash cow because of those 2, despite their constant choke job when it truly counts. Speaking of McNabb, can you tell me the last time he led the Eagles to a come-from behind victory in the last 2-3 minutes of a game? Didn't think so.BSmack wrote:I'll remember that when Philly fan drives one of the best QBs in the NFL out of town this year or next. The only way fans drive a player, owner or coach out of town is by not showing up and judging by the Eagles waiting list for season tickets, that's not happening any time soon.
