The "Why I hate CBS" thread
1. Jim Nance and Billy Packer. Without a doubt, two of the biggest fucking jackasses to ever be allowed to comment on national sports telecasts. Every time the camera shows that cunt Nance, I just want to take a screwdriver and impale it into the motherfucker's neck. I don't know who in their right mind ever got the idea that this assclown is qualified to do play-by-play of basketball games. All anybody has to do is listen to this Mary for 5 minutes to realize he can NOT call a game if his life depended on it. That is why nobody ever replays historic moments in the NCAA tourney with him making the call -- it's always a radio guy -- because Nance is nothing short of pathetically horrid. Dude should stick to staying in the studio and trying to lick the stink stars of the Master's committee in between sets of reciting poetry and playing the piano at that golf tournament. And Packer ... Jesus, this guy defines the difference between analysis and coaching from the broadcast booth. He does the latter. Wtf qualifies this idiot to be an analyst anyway? Did he used to coach, or is he simply living vicariously through nonstop yammering of which personnel "need" to be in the game and which defenses "need" to be used and which player "needs" to get the ball? Shut the fuck up already. Nobody cares about your "expert" opinion.
2. CBS never mentions games on other networks -- i.e. today, during the KU-Mizzou game, they were pimping the conference tournament games hard, but only the ones they are going to be showing. That's understandable, but when they're showing their game, they can at least give updates on what is going on elsewhere. ESPN does this on a regular basis, no matter which network is showing other games.
3. Their monopoly of the NCAA tournament. I know, they pay a lot of money for the rights to broadcast it, but unless you have satellite, you're at the mercy of whatever game the local CBS affiliate program director chooses to show. This wouldn't be nearly as much of an issue if they would try to work out an agreement with another network to show games simutaneously (they did so a few years ago with ESPN when the war started in Iraq and CBS was doing war coverage). And while their at it, kill that fucking crawl from the bottom of my screen every 5 seconds reminding the no-life, soap-opera watching losers that their program won't be seen today.
Rant over for now. If I'm forgetting anything, please feel free to add.

I guess the tournament already started. I don't care to see the end of the UK/Fla game at the expence of missing any on the Kansas Missouri game.
Lascivio amo a champion hodie.
Did the idiots even mention the ACC tourney? ESPN is carrying the semis and the final, so it would be absolutely no surprise if they went on with innane yapping as if it didn't exist.Shoalzie wrote:Can't wait for Duke-UNC!

To be honest, I think CBS has done a FINE job the past couple years switching from game to game to show exciting parts from each game. I used to take a half day off for a couple days to go to a bar that had 4 big screens lined up, one with each feed from CBS. That was the ultimate. The place we were at, Damon's, had a speaker on each table where you could pick which feed you wanted to watch. We'd sit there and drink beer all day from 11:00 AM until 10:00 PM, or whenever the last game ended.
Good times. Here in Podunk, IN, don't think that'll be happening.

Just in case you all forgot, CBS is covering the Masters, and Tiger Woods has a chance to make history.
CBS told us so, BEFORE today's first tip-off.
Think those reminders might increase just a tad over the next two weekends? Nah, no way.

Quit trying to be reasonable amid my rant. :wink:helmet wrote:they got jay bilas
I was surprised to see Jay doing color commentary. It's one of the few benefits of the Nance-Packerless 1st- and 2nd rounds -- this year on Thursday and Saturday.
Westwood One radio days for me are Friday/Sunday this year. Rack KTBZ "The Buzz" in Tulsa, for carrying Westwood One coverage ALL DAY and NIGHT today. I'll be re-racking them tomorrow when Nancy and Fudgepacker are "calling" games and I can mute the TV.

Clark Kellogg: Well, there weren't too many upsets in this round outside of UW-Milwaukee.
Comment: Outstanding, Clark. I'm thinking about staring a new TV network, can I hire you, PLEASE?
Greg Cumball: CBS's coverage of the Final Four continues tomorrow with these games ...
What Greg Gumbel meant to say was: "We have full coverage, with Billy Nance and Jim Packard, bringing you the following games."
And I don't think I'd be going out on a limb here by saying that if there were more than one major upset tonight, dude would be all about pimping some behind-the-scenes jackasses' script.
Props to CBS' "originality."
Jackass in Greg's earphone: Hey, you could mention the potential for upsets tomorrow.
Cumball: Is it 5 p.m. yet?
At least Kellogg can call it as he sees it, without having to resort to the "excitement" of tomorrow, or next Saturday.

No it isn't.Shoalzie wrote:Complaining about something that you don't have to listen to is stupid.
Sincerely,
George Raveling.
You might be a bit young for his act. I caught the tail end of it, and yes, it was as bad as advertised.
The point is, I shoudn't have to mute the TV, in the first place.
What part of Jim Nance and Billy Packer are the worst EVER, do you not get?
Seriously, I want Jim Nance and Billy Packer to fucking DIE. Preferably of heart attacks from doing some "big game," although a plane crash would do just fine.
Except for the fact that CBS would do a tribute to them every year that they have the trounament, which seems to be until 2010, from what I've heard. Yes, I pretty much want them dead.
Any tandum who has been doing championship games for this long and who doesn't have one single call on an SI "capture the moment" DVD, outside of Duke, Syracuse, or UConn, should die. Or get the fuck off my TV.
I'm not sure if I'll "have" to listen to them or not.
Maybe you should start to really listen to them to understand why both of them need to just fucking be killed.
Seriously.

Btw, Shoalz,
I dig Kevin Harlin (dude fucking ROCKS), and Gus Johnson (best CBS play-by-play guy EVER), and even Dick Emberg.
I'll break down the Westwood One guys vs. the TV commentators (outside of Nancy and Fudgepacker), as the tourney moves on.

RACK Gus Johnson...my favorite too. Nobody brings emotion into a broadcast like him. When I want to watch an upset...he better be calling the gam. Harlin is great too...he's just got that great announcers voice.
Boy, shocking that Jim and Billy are in the Austin region for the Duke game.
PSA: Tonight, it's Brad Sham and some other dude, on Westwood One. They are actually calling the game.
Edited for...
Brad Sham: "People who watch Duke probably get sick of hearing about JJ Reddick."
'nuff said about him and Westwood One. RACK the backhanded bitchslap of CBS.

Huh?helmet wrote:Viacom owns both Westwood One and CBS. Why do you think they have the radio rights?
I'm not talking about "rights," here, dog, just the alternative to Jim Nance and Billy Packer. I just want decent play-by-play for the games, and I don't care which station it's on or who owns it.
Preferrably, Nance and Packer can die together, in a plane crash or some sort of conspiracy (I'll organize a stop in Tulsa, once I get a hold of Dit's autmatic weapons), but I digress.
Viacom owns ABC, ESPN and MTV too, no?

So what was Nance's call like on Sunday, when Sparks hit the three, to send MSU-UK to overtime?
I can tell you what Brad Sham's call was like -- freaking great. For those who don't know, Sham is the Cowboys' play-by-play dude, and is a fantastic football play-by-play guy when he's doing Dallas games (and I haven't been a fan since Jerry Jones bought the team).
Anyone else hear the Sportscenter call of that shot? Hint: It wasn't that fucktard, Nance. It was Brad Sham.
But to be fair, I didn't hear Nancy's call. I did, however, hear him and Billy screaming during the 6-minute review about how there was NO WAY Sparks' foot was on the line.
