How does a guy from Florida, who played for a team in Florida (Tyrone McKenzie - USF), play for the North? Looks like he had a good game though.

A quick perusal of the Senior Bowl's website wasn't very helpful in determining exactly how the teams are selected.MuchoBulls wrote:How does a guy from Florida, who played for a team in Florida (Tyrone McKenzie - USF), play for the North? Looks like he had a good game though.
My best guess is that either they go by conference (in which case, Big East would be on the North team), or that they split the players as evenly as possible without much regard to geography (a less likely explanation).

JSC,
Those were last year's rosters. Still, they're not very helpful when it comes to figuring out exactly how the teams are divided into North and South.

The splitting the players as evenly as possible is probably the more likely way they did it. Pat White was on the South team, so that took your first theory out.Terry in Crapchester wrote:A quick perusal of the Senior Bowl's website wasn't very helpful in determining exactly how the teams are selected.

Blue-Gray game was limited, IIRC, to kids whose teams weren't playing in bowl games. Possibly (maybe probably is the better word here), it was the increase in bowl games that killed that game.Sudden Sam wrote:Poor kids that got picked for the Blue-Gray, though. Yeah, they got a chance to work out for NFL scouts and improve their opps in the pros, but they also had to spend a week in Montgomery, Alabama and then play on a bitterly cold Christmas day in Cramton Bowl.
Cramton Bowl is the most antiquated shitlhole of a stadium on earth.
I think you could play in the Blue-Gray game and also play later on in either the Senior or Hula Bowl. Could be wrong on that latter point, though.

Huh, yeah.
This has been a well known fact to Cal fans and the defensive linemen in the PAC 10 (who voted him the best offensive lineman in the conference) for 2 years in a row.
And "All World" (can you feel the sarcasm?) linebacker Rey Maluaga called him the best player he's ever faced.

Alex Mack, the center from Cal, distanced himself from the pack at his position. He probably got himself into late in the first round.

Alex Mack, C, California. He came to Mobile hoping to lay claim to the No. 1 center spot in the draft. Mission accomplished. He proved he is by far the best center on the board and offers the combination of good athleticism, size, strength and competitiveness that NFL teams love. Projection: Moved from a possible first-round pick to a definite first-rounder.

Re: Senior Bowl.....
Didn't prevent Rey and his defensive buddies from completely bottling up Alex Mack and his offensive buddies every game they played throughout each of their collegiate careers, did it?
Also, let's see who goes higher in the draft, Rey or Alex?
While we're at it, why don't you also ask Alex Mack who was the best D he ever faced? Best LB? Safety? Nose tackle?
If the dude's being honest his answers will be "USC's," "Those freaks Maualuga and Cushing," "Taylor Mays" and "Sedrick Ellis or that monster from Oregon, Haloti Ngata, take your pick."
He'll likely then sigh and say, "Damn. I graduated without a single Rose Bowl appearance, and I took a bagel against USC. I was good, sure, but I played on a team loaded with pussies who shit themselves at the mere sight of an airplane."
Then he'll probably sigh again and smile and say, "Oh well, many graduating seniors from Cal football teams can also say that..."

You're obviously missing the significance of this.
There have only been 35 centers taken in the 1st round of the NFL draft since 1936.
That's right.... 1936.
There's been probably 35 linebackers taken in the 1st round in the last 10 years.

Re: Senior Bowl.....
Guess what you're missing there with that list of 1st round draft pick centers...
Quality NFL centers, in the modern era, that's what. Peruse that list there. Notice a whole lot of Pro Bowlers there?
I see precisely...one. Don Mosebar. Don Mosebar, of USC, who was well on his way to an NFL HOF career before he got his fuggen eye poked out.
Point being, being a center who gets taken in the first round is not much of an indicator of future NFL success. In fact, looking at that list it seems to be an omen of doom.
Mack's a solid guy though. He'll do well in life beyond football, no matter what he does.
That's Alex Mack. He's unusual. Most of Cal's players are not like Alex Mack or even most of Cal's normal student body. Most of Cal's players will end up being no better equipped for life after football than most of USC's or UCLA's players and they'll mostly be less equipped than Stanford's players.
Nothing too special, on the whole, is the point. Most will do well, some will fall by the wayside.
So, the other point here is that once again you've created a post about Cal, and only about Cal, to no real purpose. It's about Cal so as always it's pretty much a non story...
Seriously...just win something, Cal. Just once. One fucking time. You've gotta be able to blind squirrel your way into a magical season at least once in your lifetime.
Where's Cal's Rutgers season, their Northwestern season?
Here's an idea for you, m2...
Forget pie in the sky national champions stuff. It's Cal, after all. Instead, just try not to die before Cal sees even one freaking Rose Bowl.

Pssst.... maybe you missed it... but, they were the known as the best College Football team of the first half century.
All this during the era of Knute Rockne and the "Four Horsemen of Notre Dame"
Not to mention the "era" of "Red Grange"
Known as "The Wonder Teams"
Has "south central" ever won 4 College Football National Championships in a row ???
Didn't think so.

...three key words you conveniently skipped...
1920 national champions: ND, Harvard, Cal and Princeton
1921: Lafayette, W&J (who??), Iowa, Cal and Cornell
1922: Cornell, Cal and Princeton
1923: Cornell, Michigan, Cal and Illinois
Yep, leather helmets, no forward passes and Ivy League schools winning titles. Those sure were some compelling national titles there!
Oh, and hey! USC won five "national titles" in six years between 1928 and 1933. Five, in six years! Same deal. Shared titles, all.
How about we go ahead and simply flush any title that was awarded before the late '60s. It's not like national titles mean a whole lot now, most seasons, but when they were awarded before the bowl games were even played then you're really talking an absolute joke.
Better yet, let's go ahead and flush any national titles that were awarded before integration.
Really, anything before 1970 is just quaint history.

Actually, I obviously was a recent history major. That's why I know about the farcical national title system, prior to and subesquent to the late '60s.You obviously weren't a recent history major.
That's also why I know that Cal hasn't won a single damn thing during your lifetime. Not one Heisman, not one national title, not even a single Rose Bowl berth.
Nada. Zilch. You've taken a bagel for your entire lifetime.

Your post there mentions more erroneous info about 101 and Hwy 1. There are no links there to posts from me to Sam about '40s or '50s era CF, which is what you just implied I'd find there with your "surprise post."
Yeah, there was a surprise there for me. I saw a post from a supposedly lucid Bay Area local who apparently isn't aware that:
-It's possible to hit Hwy 1 North to Stinson Beach off of its own dedicated 101 South exit.
-Traffic and the time it takes to get from Novato to 101 South's Hwy 1/Stinson Beach exit varies, depending on the time of day.
You're so wildly off base in everything you're posting now that you're becoming genuinely baffling.
So, is it drugs, or trolling? Gotta be one or the other. Nobody is as genuinely clueless as you're coming off here.

Maybe you can take the Hwy 1/Stinson Beach exit off of 101 South and report back to us with your findings...
Btw, do have a dispute with mapquest's knowledge of Bay Area freeways and highways? Are you saying mapquest is wrong with this description of how to get from San Rafael (which is on the 101 freeway, for anyone who's not from the Bay Area) to Stinson Beach (which is on the coast, a bit north of Muir Woods)...
http://www.mapquest.com/maps?1c=San+Raf ... each&2s=CA
3: Merge onto US-101 S toward SAN FRANCISCO/OAKLAND. 6.7 mi
4: Take the CA-1 N exit toward STINSON BEACH. 0.2 mi
5: Turn RIGHT onto CA-1/SHORELINE HWY. 0.1 mi
6: Turn LEFT to stay on CA-1/SHORELINE HWY. 0.5 mi
7: Turn LEFT to stay on CA-1/SHORELINE HWY.

Okay, let's walk you through it...
"Merge onto US-101 South toward San Francisco/Oakland" means they're suggesting you get on the 101 in San Rafael and head south, toweards the GGB.
The little "6.7 mi" blurb means you'll be on this stretch of freeway for 6.7 miles.
"Take the CA-1 N exit toward Stinson Beach" means...guess what...there's a Hwy 1 exit that heads north to Stinson Beach RIGHT OFF US-101; something which, for some reason, you deny exists. It says to take it for "0.2 mi," which means it's an offramp that's .2 miles long.
Next it says to make a right onto Hwy 1, for "0.1 mi," or one tenth of a mile.
Next it says to turn left on Hwy 1/Shoreline Dr, which are the same thing at that point. It says you'll go "0.5 mi," so you'll be on that stretch for half a mile.
Finally it says to turn left to stay on Hwy 1.
Meanwhile, you've been saying nonsense like this...
You still want to say mapquest is wrong? You still want to insist you can't simply get on Hwy 1 below Stinson Beach, right off the 101, without having to do a "30 to 45 minute drive over Mt Tam"?
You still want to insist you're not trolling, or an imbecile, or both?
