I'm an idiot...

Post by ChargerMike »

...and I must come correct. Re: my thread on Roethlisburger being a stationary target

mvscal ripped me a new one in that thread and dude was spot on. I was proven waaaay off on my opinion of big Ben's ability to elude tacklers and make something out of nothing. Freeking amazing were his dodging, weaving, scrambling, whirling wrong way completions. IMHO...(which isn't worth squat right about now) Roethlisburger was the MVP of SB XLIII. Had he not escaped those countless times, had he instead been sacked for huge loses, Arizona wins that game flat out.
One of the best SB's since....well since last year.
My props to Big Ben Roethlisburger, and never again will I make the mistake of calling him a stationary target.
mvscal if you want to tag me with a sig....I deserve it.

BTW...Congrats Bri.

No shit man. That dude is as slippery as a greased hog, don't know how many time the Cards had him - just about there - almost ---- reach ---- and

He completes a pass. Probably in large part due to his stature as well, dude's a tower and a beefy one ala Shaq so you know he doesn't go down easy.

Tough to verify, and it's subjective, but a case could be made that statistically, Ben is the best under-duress QB the game has ever seen.

He's not exactly elusive as in the classic scrambler, ala tarkenton or staubach. He's just a big fukkin' boy who don't go down easy, kinda like the last steeler QB to pile up SB titles. His left leg is bigger than tarkenton was.

No, I would submit that he is a classic scrambler that ALSO doesn't go down easily. Dude pretty much knows where everyone in the pocket is at all times and knows just where to step to.

'Not exactly elusive'
Excellent. Well done... if you're trying to make an ass of yourself, that is.

My take on Ben is that he seems to need a little adversity. Once he's running around, he's in his comfort zone.

The other issue is that I think there are games where he probably is too injured to be effective, but neither he nor the staff want to admit it. I respect his inclination to fight through the injuries, but it's just that at times you can tell he's not 100%, and it hurts the offense.

Either way, though - he's a hell of a QB. On the winning TD, he placed the ball perfectly. He did the same thing on the previous play, also. Both of those throws, at that point in a game, when he is on the move...pretty fucking amazing. We're really lucky to have him.

All that really needs to be said about Ben at this point in his career is that he's on this list.

QBs with multiple Super Bowl Titles

4 Terry Bradshaw, Steelers
4 Joe Montana, 49ers
3 Troy Aikman, Cowboys
3 Tom Brady, Patriots
2 Bart Starr, Packers
2 Roger Staubach, Cowboys
2 Bob Griese, Dolphins
2 Jim Plunkett, Raiders
2 John Elway, Broncos
2 Ben Roethlisberger

Not bad for his first 5 years in the league.

I'm not taking anything anyway from Ben's most recent SB win but the fact is the Steelers won against the Seahawks despite Ben, not because of. He has the lowest QB rating of any winning SB QB (22.6) which means he's on that list for numerical purposes only. If you somehow think he's reach elite status by making that list, then you've just won the noble prize for being the biggest cock sucking homer ever.

The Steelers don't even MAKE it to Super Bowl XL without Ben's work in the 3 road playoff games that preceded the big game. So yea, he's in an elite group of QBs who have started for more than 1 Super Bowl winner. So why don't you go back to hoping Donovan McNabb can keep his lunch down long enough to even get back to another Super Bowl, much less win one.

Playoff games don't make HOF QB's and frankly neither do SB wins or losses.. just ask Fouts and Marino. You'll get no defense of McNabb from me so try peddling this shit to the clueless fucks who think Eagles fans are being too "rough" on Mr. Chunky.

Ben has a number 2 next to his name on a list of QB's whose team has won multiple SB's but he stands by himself when it comes to have the dubious record for lowest QB rating in a SB. When the big game was on the line he had to be bailed out by his defense and lucky for him he's had a pretty fucking good one during his tenure with the Steelers. He's nothing but a number on that list and you're an idiot if you think otherwise.

The hell they don't. Ask Namath and Griese. Playoff success is very important for all but the very few who are both talented enough to compile gaudy stats and lucky enough to play in systems that allow them to compile gaudy stats.

He's also the youngest QB to ever win a Super Bowl. And he's sporting a 51-20 regular season record as a starter after his 1st 5 years in the league. And his playoff record is a VERY nice 8-2.

Oh, and your argument that he's been "bailed out" by his defense during his tenure is a fucking joke. Most elite QBs have had the luxury of playing with good defenses and solid rushing attacks. Guys like Joe Montana, Brett Favre, Phil Simms, Terry Bradshaw, Bob Griese, Roger Staubach and Johnny Unitas all were on teams with great defenses. And they got "bailed out" by those defenses plenty of times. Seriously, do you only watch Eagles games?

Ben had a rough game in his first SB. He had a great one in his second. Both are wins. I actually think he did more to get his team into the game in '05 than he did this year.
