There's no such thing as a free lunch

Post by War Wagon »

But there was a free breakfast, if you were willing to wait in line for it.

Image

Drove by the one near my work this morning at 5:45 and it was jam freaking packed. Didn't have time to stop, but nice marketing ploy nonetheless. There's a whole squadron of homeless sign holders who regularly work the I-435 at Front Street entrance/exit ramps whom I'm sure were lined up early. Assuming they watched the SuperBowl and saw the commercial, maybe... I dunno'... I'm thinking the stench in that place was unbearable and feel sorry for those servers.

So, how many of you cheap skates took advantage, ordered ice-water to drink, and then didn't even leave a tip?

Rack Denny's for the effort. I eat breakfast there occasionally and it damn sure beats the Waffle House right across the street.

We don't have a Denny's. Closest one is in Lincoln. But, believe you me, if a Denny's were to ever open in this Nebraska town it wouldn't take a free meal to line people around the building twice. It seems whenever a new franchise (Red Lobster, Applebees, Ruby Tuesday, etc.) opens in this "neck" of the woods, the hoards of people lining up to try it amazes me.

Anyone's free time is worth at least 10 bucks an hour. If you have to stand in line and wait an hour to eat at a restaraunt, you deserve a painful case of salmonella and a pubic lice infestation courtesy of the public toilet of said establishment.

Excuse my curiosity, but I was stationed at Offut AFB 1980-81 and know NE quite well. My sister went to NU and Creighton.

Not a personal info whore over here H4... but like to know who I'm talking to.

I drove through your "neck" of Nebraska once. There was nothing worth stopping for. Why humans chose to live in that hell escapes me totally. No wonder Charlie Starkweather went apeshit.

Besides, I'm not from CNY. I'm from WNY. Though if you had said "Finger Lakes Region" that would have been acceptable. Get it straight.

And he should have said “like KCers running intelligence smack”. As for Denny’s, they should always give that shit away. Horrible excuse for a restaurant.

This sounds awfully KC Tardish for someone who resides... where the fuck is it? Buffalo? Rochester? Some piece of shit town in upstate NY? Regardless of exactly where it is, I am sure it's not some sort of cultural epicenter. Props on the woods, snow, pickup trucks and... stuff.

EDIT:: Ahhh -- this is what I get for clicking on reply and then getting interrupted by actual work and stuff before submitting.

I have never been to nebraska. i'll assume it's pretty much like Kansas. I drove across kansas on our rv odyssey. It was alright, I guess. Kinda boring. Awfully white. Almost as white as portland, but without portland's annoying hippies. I have also been to CNY and WNY. Spent a few days in crapchester a few times. I'll take Kansas, thanks. And drove through the falls once. Won't make that mistake again. Fukking Utica was nice compared to Niagra falls. The whole place needs to be pushed into the damn falls.

The OL took the kids to denny's after they got out of school monday for the free grub, but, there were cheap fukks lined up out the door. So, they took a raincheck.

We went there tonight for dinner. The wife and my son used their raincheck and did the grand slam. I went for the 8.99 sizzling chicken fajita kind of deal.

Holly fukking shit!!! It was bad. No, it was worse than that. The chicken breast looked like it came off a pidgeon. The onions and peppers were pretty much non existent and really bad. I am not exaggerating when I say this was like a really, really, really bad TV dinner. I suffered through 6 years of Navy grub. This was much worse.

Almost forgot about the coffee. Everybody has the fancy foo-foo flavors nowadays. Denny's has one too. Not sure what they call it, but, it smells pretty much like a dirty ash tray.

How the fukk is this place still in business? I guess it's the middle of the night breakfast club that keeps them going and maybe the blue hairs. Those fukks won't get another thin dime out of me.

Duuude... nobody goes to Denny's except for breakfast.

I always get the meatlovers scramble and substitute an english muffin for the pancakes. Too much food, not enough time.

Though I will suggest that any fatass able to eat all that and the pancakes should have an extra tax added on to pay for Quasheesha's college education.

Let me get this straight... not knowing some shit band's shitty music from the 60s (70s?) makes you stupid?

Which brings up a serious question. Which is worse... cocksnorkling or being a Three Dog Night fan? Not that's there's anything wrong with that. My father was a Three Dog Night fan.

I visit my dad... once a year, every year... on the 6th of June.

Pops passed away a little over 5 and a half years ago. I've mentioned it on the board a few times. Probably in a healthcare or hockey thread. I don't think you're a big fan of either topic.

Kind of the same reason you chose to live just short of the Adirondacks. Cost of living or you were born there. I'm just short of the Rockies. And it costs exactely next to squat to live here and I can drive to the Rockies should I feel the need.

Busted.

Grand Island.

And you're still 2 hours, at least, from the Rockies.

But look on the bright side. You're also at least 4 hours drive time from Coods.

To each his own. Nebraska is a birdwatcher's paradise. Home of the central flyway, birdwatchers the world over know there are few other places on the planet earth to see the diversity and quantity you will find here. If you like to hunt....need I say more. Beyond the birds, you can hunt deer, antelope, mule deer, a few elk, coyotes, fox. You can trap mink, muskrat, beaver, etc.

But, yeah.....if you stick to I-80 as you pass through.....it is very boring and monotonous. The word is flat, ya know.
