Report: Favre to retire (again)
Report: Favre to retire (again)

Whatever decision he was going to make, I was hoping he'd at least make it final so we don't have to deal with the same crap as last year. He has enough sense to make this decision now before free agency and the draft so the Jets have plenty of time to make a move for a QB.

Re: Report: Favre to retire (again)
Can't wait to see him cry at this press conference.
He will change his mind the week after the NFL Draft. This will allow the Jets to have selected another quarterback, thus continuing another QB controversy that will keep his name in circulation - which is what he really wants. Immortality in a major NY media market is more desirable than life in Kiln.
What isn't more desirable than life in Kiln, Mississippi?
the truth

Re: Report: Favre to retire (again)
My brother is a die hard Jets fan. For Christmas this year I gave him a #4 Favre t-shirt as a gag. But hey, at least I gave him a real present in the form of a Home Depot gift card as well.
BTW: The real acid test of this "retirement" will happen in a couple of weeks. If Favre has not filed his papers with the league before the deadline to get down to the cap, then this is all a ploy to make the Jets release him outright so he can be a free agent.

Though I appreciate your willingness to pay my overrated and washed up ass for more money than I could ever possibly deserve, it will be necessary first for your team to have 2 scheduled games against the Green Bay Packers. Would it be possible for you to move the Redskins to the NFC North?

That's what was so puzzling about this same deal last year -- the Jets were already somewhat vested in their "QB of the future" in Kellen Clemens (Quacks be unto him).
But strange managerial decisions and the whiney Favre killed to Clemens/Pennington combo, which would have theoretically set them up for a few years. They did spend their second round pick drafting an injured QB on "potential," which he was starting to realize... then Favre killed that progess, and the Jets were suddenly staring cap problems in the face. They should cut their losses regardless.
I got 99 problems but the 'vid ain't one

...and then McShay projects the Jets to take Mark Sanchez with their first round pick this year...go figure.
It's not like there is a great veteran QB that will be available this offseason unless they want to take a shot with Cassel. Favre coming off the books frees up around $13 million from the cap so they could make a run at him. You have to think they draft a QB in the first few rounds but you'd have to also think that Clemens gets a shot at starting being the most veteran QB on the roster. Even with the new coaching staff, Schottenheimer is a hold over from the Mangini regime so the offense doesn't change...advantage: Clemens.
