I have my beef with the institution of the Catholic Church, specifically in regards to this issue, but lies aren't necessary. I think PSUFAN said it best when all this crap was going down in Boston.

Fortunately, my diocese as a youth was not victim to such priests. In fact the only "sexual" drama in the Diocese of Arlington that I can remember is of a priest running off with another dude's wife. I guess he got tired of listening to her confessions of her tawdry, kinky behavior and decided to "counsel" her himself

Of course. The Catholic Church is far more intelligent as an entity. Its business model entails adapting to whatever comes along, for the most part. True. I think we can agree that the actual numbers are speculative at best then, both inflated and deflated and unable to be substantiated. And I am concerned about the global conspiracy aspect of the scandal. It seems they were more offended at 10 years olds finding Husters and jerking off than they were about their own priests "doing that which is unseemly". As an insider, the hypocrisy is maddening. As an outsider, I've found hypocrisy to be as much a part of human nature as stink is a part of fecal matter.
