School Boundary Committee
So I have been appointed to a school boundary committee. Our district is opening a new elementary school to relieve over crowding at one school. Last night was one of the public comment periods on the proposed boundaries. One group of parents whose kids will be changing schools got out of hand and police were called. Sadly two minority groups brought out the race card. Then minority parents of students not changing schools were upset at the other group and gave rebuttals. Names and insults were exchanged and soon the hearing was done.
This is just the precursor to the big issue this summer of the new HS boundaries. The Elementary is very easy as it is very clear cut.
For the new HS that will open in the fall of 2010, the NAACP and LULAC are already posturing. If boundaries are drawn naturally around the campuses, one existing school would be 92% black, another existing school would be 95% hispanic, and the third existing school would be 80% white. The new school would be 88% white. If you then look at income, the first two existing schools would have more than 70% of their students on free or reduced lunch programs. The third existing school would have 40% on the free/reduced lunch program. The new school would have less than 1% on the same program.
So do you draw natural boundaries that allow students to walk to school without much diversity? Or do you draw crazy lines and have kids going to schools three times as far away as another school? Who pays for the increased bussing fees? What if kids don't want to attend the other schools?
The district has had a program in place for the past 10 years that allows students that are in a majority race at their assigned school to attend another school in the district if they will be in the minority at that school. So far 95% of the participation has been by white students.
This should be a ton of fun.

Used to do all that school district budget committee,LSC, community involvement, all that shit.
I checked one day and all that work was not helping my retirement account get any bigger. And nothing really ever changed.
That confirmed that what you or I do will not mean a fucking thing next week, month or next year, or 5 or 20 years. And besides I spoke up at one of those meetings and tried to contain my conservative views after being lamblasted by the teachers union for suggesting that the teachers and other public leach's could pick up a bit more of their health care package, I decided it simply was a waste of time.
Let the spics, nogs, crackers and all the others figure out what they want to do. It don't matter what you say or think, if your a white male, its going to be wrong any way. So STFU and write your tax check out. That is all they want to hear from you anyway. Props for trying, but reality is reality.
I found that in place of going to meetings and listening to a bunch of whining citizens bitch that I could
Stay home and work on my bass guitar riffs.
Work on the classic Mustang.
Get my fishing gear ready for a promising steelhead season.
Plan out this summers flying trips around Oregon, WA, and NoCal.
Throw the tennis ball for the Lab.
Get an extra work out in at the gym.
or anything else that had little to do with political activity.

We have Open Enrollment here.
Any kid can enroll at any high school in the state, provided:
1. There's room for them at the school, and
2. They can get there, on time, every day, on their own

Re: School Boundary Committee
How and who determines if there is room?
Afraid if we had that here Houston ISD would have zero students.

Open enrollemnt means the district is hard up for students and it willing to overcrowdLeft Seater wrote:How and who determines if there is room?

the "better" schools in order to up the enrollment.
Vouchers, vouchers, vouchers, people.
Re: School Boundary Committee
Vouchers aside, Open Enrollment here is state-wide.trev wrote:Open enrollemnt means the district is hard up for students and it willing to overcrowdLeft Seater wrote:How and who determines if there is room?

Each school has a set number of students it can handle- determined by the physical capacity of the building (number of classroms & seats per classroom). The vast majority of students- probably 75-80% enroll at the school closest to where they live, A few will travel cross-town for academics, but the biggest reason kids enroll at a other-than-neighborhood-school is sports. They want to compete and be part of a championship quality football, basketball, track, or baseball team. Schools with top athletic programs also tend to be bigger schools with lots of student capacity.

Re: School Boundary Committee
Do the right thing and split the new highschool up evenly as you can between the races. Everybody keeps everybody else in check that way. You dont need a snobby white highschool anymore then a rundown black highschool.

Re: School Boundary Committee
This could be solved simply....IF left to the locals. They would have meetings like this. Some folks would get pissed off. Somebody might even get dragged out to the parking lot and have his ass kicked. Then there would be a vote among the concerned parties, a decision would be made, and life would go on.
But not in america, circa 2009. The NAACP will be called, higher level courts and politicians will stick their fukking noses in and it will drag out for years and nobody will be happy.
Glad I live in a little podunk town with 1 jr high and 1 high school. It eliminates a lot of this drama.
As for diversity, what a crock of shit. You really wanna make different groups hate one another?
Force them together.
Seen it a thousand times over.

Vouchers/handpicked athletes for the 95% white school. It happens all the time in the Omaha metro conference. Trust me, the best football and basketball players will be gravy-trained from the slums and ghettos. They will serve as tokens who help to win championships and hardware to line the glass trophy cases at the cracker high school. I don't call that striving for diversity, there ain't much difference from this and sending Jimmy the Greek down to a slave auction to get the best farm machinery.trev wrote:Open enrollemnt means the district is hard up for students and it willing to overcrowdLeft Seater wrote:How and who determines if there is room?

I remember our school losing an athlete or two and it sure was funny how they suddenly had a whole new wardrobe and near new mustangs to use to drive to school every day....to a newly built suburban, 80% white high school.
Re: School Boundary Committee
Its just a fact of life in my town where I believe over 60% of the kids in school are hispanic with about 10% other minorities and the rest white. A new 2nd highschool is being built on the west(white) side to open in the fall. If you split the two highschools down the middle of town then the new school would be the white school and the old HS would be the Mexican school.
To the concentrate the Mexicans even more into one HS would further divide our town and would certainly not help out the growing Mexican gang problem. Split the Mexicans up and expose them to whites so we can somehow assimilate them into American culture.

Decades my fucking ass...don't know about your hood but here in reasonably (supposedly) white bread suburban Portland, and virtually around Oregon anywhere..the school enrollment last year was at about 43% Hispanic...will get the update for this year in a month or so, should be about 47% spic..but the economy may have leveled that off a bit..but maybe not. School enrollment is a fairly good indicator of what the societal makeup is, give or take a few percent.
That is up from about 38% 3 years ago. Pretty steep rate....and probably won't stop anytime soon. Looks like a bit over 3% a year...and get this...it was the total amount of growth in total enrollment. So that puts the enrollment at over 50% spic in another 2 years.
Who is assimilating whom ?
War white men getting affirmative action preference.
