Screw the Post Office...
The post office is claiming that they will have to cut back to 5 day a week delivery soon if Congress doesn't bail their ass out. Is this really a concern? They should cut delivery back to 3 days a week, Mon, Wed, and Friday.
My wife and I check our mail about once a week at the most. The only things that we even look at are a few magazines that we subscribe too. Our bills are all done online and except for a few greeting cards the rest is just trash.
So if the post office is losing $800 Million a quarter, it is because nothing of importance goes in the mail. I have little doubt that Fed Ex could take over all mail handling and increase service while reducing costs.
Screw the post office and their wasting of our money.

Cut it down to three-day delivery. It's not a terrible idea.

Re: Screw the Post Office...
I had heard Tuesday is the proposed day they won't deliver. Makes sense, some depend on Saturday delivery.
But the Union is up in arms because carriers and handlers are paid on a 6 day week basis. I for one say we need the USPS ? Didn't you all see Kevin Costner in "The Postman", I mean, how are we supposed to communicate from my bunker when the EMP destroys electricity ?
Sheesh

Re: Screw the Post Office...
I hope that happens. I'm working for a government entity these days, and I have enjoyed hearing the accounts of success in paring down the work week. I think that for a lot of folks, such a move would make a lot of sense.mvscal wrote:Cut the rest of the Federal and State governments to three day work weeks and we'll be getting somewhere.

I seriously doubt it. Your 42 cent letter delivery is heavily subsidized by all that junk mail that comes every day.R-Jack wrote:If FedEx was handling daily door to door deliveries, they could probably do it cheaper.Screw_Michigan wrote:You think FedEx will deliver your Christmas card for 42-cents? If you're willing to shell out $5 a pop to have a letter delivered, with the added bonus of not getting junk mail, then it might be worth it.
Re: Screw the Post Office...
Reduced delivery days sounds good--however I don't see the postal workers working fewer days AND for less pay-- probably the same pay or more ! When you think of it, it is a bit amazing that UPS, Fed Ex et al were granted the power for delivery of parcels. Don't know where Mikey gets his $5 a letter-- I'd guess it would be less and probably well worth the cost if it eliminated the rest of the crap I end up trashing.

If Fed Ex were handling all of the mail, I have no doubt they would deliver my Christmas cards for less than $.42.
They wouldn't deliver to each door or individual mailbox. Instead on each block there would be a box that all the street's mail went into. You would then get it out of an individualy keyed slot for your address.
Nice to see you going .m2blueblood too.

mail delivery to your doorstep is horribly inefficient. you could have centrally located boxes in your neighborhood or at work or any number of places
mikey, your a well meaning hippy. Doesn't it bother you that someone drives a 4000 lb truck up to your doorstep to deliver your phone bill? I guess it's OK to rape the earth though, so long as it's a unionized, democrat voting gubmint employee doing it.

One other thing.
If fedex were the ones delivering your mail, they wouldn't confiscate other things left in "their" mailbox.
Yup, that's right. It is against federal law for anyone else to put something in your mailbox. I used to be able to leave a check in my mailbox for the oil delivery guy, but, can't anymore. The mailman will confiscate it!!! Funny, I bought that fukking box. It's got my name on it, but, them silly gubmint workers just won't tolerate anything they percieve as competition.

^^^^^^
valid point !
We have a local community monthly that ends up lying on people's driveways and sometimes blowing all over the hood because they can't simply stick it in the mailbox.
There is change I could believe in !

There are still way too many places where this delivery process is tolerated and used. It is so inefficient it is mind boggling.smackaholic wrote:mail delivery to your doorstep is horribly inefficient. you could have centrally located boxes in your neighborhood or at work or any number of places
They could correct their money problems by going to all mounted routes, like the new sub divisions have. Put up a bunch of boxes and deliver there. Fuck that door step to door step delivery. Worked when there were a lot less people, but now that model is arcane.
I have RFD box, secure box..I bring the mail into the office, stand over the burn bag and shredder and lose about 75% of it right there. The rest of it could have came electronically if the companies had half a fucking brain or desire to be efficient.
But the gubmint has done it that way, the postal union has a stranglehold on them...just ask this guy

I have been worried that we are headed that way, but, it doesn't seem to be happening yet.Derron wrote:smackaholic wrote: The rest of it could have came electronically if the companies had half a fucking brain or desire to be efficient.
I say worried because I am one of the folks involved in getting all your snail mail bills every month. I maintain mail inserting equipment for a yob. Kinda figured it would be going away as more people go to e-bills. But, I think it will be around for quite some time because the last few years my company has been heavily pimping billing statements combined with junk mail.
They figure that if you throw in a few junk mail inserts with your bill, it will go along way towards paying the cost of the statement. It makes sense. If there are companies out there that will pay postage just to send you 3rd class junk mail, knowing that most people will drop it right in the shredder, why not drop that same junk in an envelope that has a bill in it. Long as you keep the total weight under an ounce, it costs virtually nothing.

Putting something in an envelope with a bill hoping some one will buy something to offset a cost is idiotic...maybe some people do buy useless shit off those inserts, but I don't even look to see what they are. I just assume it is a low value item or service I do not need and it hits the burn bag. If I want something, I will go buy it. It is not likely a gloss undersized piece of poor advertising is going to motivate me to a buying action..
We exchange signed contracts over e mail that are valid legal documents. We pay bills on line. We send billing son line , and we fax billings also. Most gubmint agencies we work for, still have to have hard copy mailed to them to fill up their files. We get some bills on line, not as many as we should.
Kind of like the fucking phone books. I got 9 of the mother fucking things in the last month. Kept 2 of them, and walked straight to the dumpster with the others. Best thing was watching a 150 pound wolf malamute chase the illegal spic that was delivering them. Dude walked up on our front porch and dropped the bag of books about 6 inches from her head...and woke her up, scared her and pissed her off all at one time.
Fill the fucking landfills up..I don't care..if your paying for the add's in this outdated form of advertising you deserve the fucking your going to get, cause you are not going to get any business from them.

Re: Screw the Post Office...
Derron,
You may not pay any attention to those glossy inserts, but every day bazillions of them are sent out. It costs money to send them out, especially when they are sent by themselves, rather than piggybacking on a bill's postal charge.
Putting them in a billing statement makes all the sense in the world for a number of reasons. First off, they travel free, assuming they don't raise the weight over an ounce. It takes little work to process it. Most inserting machines used to process bills can add up to 6 inserts with the statement. One pocket is used for the return envelope. That leaves 5 extra pieces of shit you can add. Doing so does not slow the inserter down. It does piss off lazy inserter operators though which is a bonus. A big advantage is that unlike regular junk mail, there is a very good chance you will atleast open the thing. An envelope that is nothing but junk mail tends to get filed in the trash without being opened.
There's a pretty good chance that atleast one of your bills passes through the machines I work on. If I happen to see one addressed to derron in the U&L, I will spit on it fer ya. One day at work I happened to look down at a bill on a machine I was working on. It was addressed to my best friend. Of course, I had to take advantage of this situation, likely violating at least one federal law in the process and wrote a little note on his bill, something along the lines of GFYJO. Got a phone call from him about a week later asking how the hell I did that.

Clearly the inserts must work at some level or they would go away.
Same with telemarketing. If they never sold anything with those calls they would stop.

Great use of paper....but rack that... my son in law is a logger and needs the work..cut more trees for bleached and dyed paper. You may not pay any attention to those glossy inserts, but every day bazillions of them are sent out. Only on the outside chance it is one of those deceptive mailings, designed to mimic a real business transaction.A big advantage is that unlike regular junk mail, there is a very good chance you will atleast open the thing. An envelope that is nothing but junk mail tends to get filed in the trash without being opened.
Unlikely it would be a bill...maybe an add...I have no personal debt other than my house. No credit cards..everything else is pretty localized. There's a pretty good chance that atleast one of your bills passes through the machines I work on. If I happen to see one addressed to derron in the U&L, I will spit on it fer ya.
Please do..just pull the bitch out and throw it away...you going to be one of those dudes on the " Busted at Work " show who gets caught yanking it all over the mail ??

You don't have bills?
Rack you.
How do you get by without a home phone, cell phone, utilities, cable/sat TV or insurance?
We process lots of the above. Every last one of these fukkers gets a monthly bill or sometimes quarterly. Even if you pay these online, you get a paper statement.

He said he didn't have debt. Up until about 6 months ago, I had zero debt. No mortgage. No car payment. No credit card debt or student loans. Life was good so we decided we wanted some debt and bought a huge fuggen house (5600+) on a 5 acre piece of sod. Now we have a little debt.smackaholic wrote:You don't have bills?

In any case, one can have bills without debt. If you don't pay your bills, you have debt. Now stop making me defend Derron.

Rack HSA's that earn interest. Not only does the gubmint not get to tax the money I have to pay out of pocket for my family's medical bills, my company drops $1200 tax free dollars in the HSA in addition to what I put in, and it gets about 2% interest.smackaholic wrote:You got brats too, so I am sure you see more than your fair share of medical bills.

They all could send me on line bills and skip the paper. But most just can't seem to get it done that way.
I get online statements. My choice to print them. Usually don't. Save to hard drive, then to electronic media storage. Fucking bank can't figure it out, have no way to store bank statements. I have to print them out and scan them. Still keep paper copy's on business stuff..just a smart thing to do.
Utilities -water and electricity from PUD..fuckin pages of paper..I throw it all away.
Cell phones..paid on line archived to hard drive..blah..blah...blah..
The HSA thing is great also....especially for us evil self employed business types who have verrryyy high deductibles..
