Duke is the softest team in the ACC nowadays.

After Corey Maggette and Will Avery left early for the NBA, Coach K seems to have gotten ticked off, and he changed his recruiting strategy. Instead of going for the super-duper stars who would leave after 1 or 2 seasons, he went for 4 year guys who were good enough to really contribute each season but not athletic enough to jump early to the pros. Coach K did manage to get Jay Williams to stay for 3 seasons instead of just 2, but he and Luol Deng seem to be the last of the super-duper talents at Duke.

(At that point, Coach K also selfishly tightened his "approved list" system for keeping agents away from his players, much to the ire of agents).

Hence, Duke gets a lot of white players, outside shooters, and 4 year starters. Guys like Trajan Langdon and J.J. Redick thrived and scored in that system, but I'm not sure if either of them can throw down a reverse dunk. These days, if you watch the McDonald's All-America game, the most unathletic guys in the game seem to be Duke commits.

When that 3-point shot stops dropping for Duke, they're dead. Or when they play North Carolina, they're dead.

Same rationale applies for a team like Notre Dame, except that Notre Dame's 4-year guys aren't at Duke's talent level, so they feel the pain of the loss of the 3-point shot even more in lots of games.

Man, it's been a long time since I haunted the halls at cyberbears.org! But it's good to see you guys (and GreyBear?) up and running at a new site, more similar to the old independent cyberbears than not!

So what prompted the move from Scout? Still appreciate when the independent sites can make a go of it without capitulating to the Scout and Rival ones...good to see you going off and doin' your own thing (or at least within the ESPN family).

Anyway, I see many old and familiar posters who were at Cyberbear Growls 10 years ago during the "lean" years of Cal football still posting--that's what I call true fans!
