Man was created in God's image

Man was created in God's image
Genesis 1:27,28
27: So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
28: And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
God is spirit -- John 4:24
Man created in God's image = man was unique among all that God created in that he is a spiritual being
Because man is a spiritual being, he tries to fill his spiritual hunger.
If one were to watch another person closely for a while, the methods the person uses to try to fill his hunger would be evident.
With what does he try to find his happiness?
What does he work or strive for?
What is he habitually drawn to?
What really gratifies him?
People work diligently to try to find a sense of genuine rest, comfort, or happiness.
But it doesn't come.
Failure comes.
I've never seen a genuinely successful person in the world.
Failure, unrest, heartache, sickness, family problems, disasters, ... eventually come to all people.
Because by trying to fill their natural spiritual hunger with the created things, people are trying to bless themselves.
But it is an impossibility, because darkness has covered everything.
The event of Genesis 3 brought this to all mankind, and all that man tries to bless himself with is cursed.
It (including man) is all under the reign of darkness.
So people go into failure -- inevitably so.
God promised in Genesis 1:28 that HE would bless man.
The Tower of Babel incident of Genesis 11:1-9 is where man is.
People strive and build toward what they imagine will give them a sense of fulfillment.
But the tower crumbles.
Undoubtedly so.
If you watched a person for a short time, you could recognize the Tower of Babel he is building to try to fill his spiritual hunger.
Isaiah 40:8
The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.

Re: Man was created in God's image
not to mention that man holds no such dominion over "every living thing"
viruses and bacteria pretty much pwn mankind...we've developed drugs that keep them at bay at best, but we certainly don't hold sway over them

God gave man dominion in Genesis 1:28.
Man became spiritually captured in Genesis 3 and went into an undoubted cursed existence.
All sickness comes to man as a result of the event of Genesis 3.

then he must have endowed man with a autoimmune system designed to fight said bacteria and viruses that he sent down to destroy man.....poptart wrote:God gave man dominion in Genesis 1:28.

man, that cat should make a call and stick with it
"make up your mind dude, is he gonna shit or is he gonna kill us?"
"first he's gonna shit, then he's gonna kill us"

Observing that people can imagine that an autoimmune system could arise absent a Creator is interesting.
Let alone how even the most basic life could arise from non-life.
You have a child, I heard, Felix.
I've wondered for a long time how one can view that event and push aside the reality of a Creator.
Isaiah 60:2
For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.

We each have our own understanding of God, or lack thereof. It's not the group think you make it out to be, even among those devoted to a particular religious doctrine.mvscal wrote:God is man idealized...by man.
Each person has their own idea of what God is or isn't and it is and should be highly personal.
Myself, it's just a matter of recognizing a higher power... that there is indeed a concept that I choose to call God, and I'm not him/her/it.
Keeps me humble.

Re: Man was created in God's image
we're talking evolution which has been so widely demonstrated that most people simply accept it as fact...but in scientific terms, it's a theory, much like the theory of gravity, atomic theory, planetary motion theory, etc.poptart wrote:Observing that people can imagine that an autoimmune system could arise absent a Creator is interesting.
here you're talking abiogenesis, there have been experiments that showed that indeed, the building blocks of organic life could have come from inorganic matter...but I guess you prefer to stick with the "god made man out of clay" dealio....Let alone how even the most basic life could arise from non-life.
you see, the deal is that we've only been investigating these things for about 150 years, and no matter how smart we are, we simply can't be expected to explain how everything came into existence some 15 billion years ago...that shit takes time....but the typical thumper reaction is "you can't fully explain how the world came to be, therefore we believe that the default should go to an invisible magical being that simply poofed everything into existence"
if you can't understand the idiocy of that, well.....
it's really pretty simple to explain, and I'm sure you got the ins and outs of it all in your high school health classYou have a child, I heard, Felix.

interesting that you quote from Isaiah, which is undoubtedly one of the more violent books in the bible
Isaiah 5:24-25 "God will kill those who despise his word and fail to follow his laws. Their carcasses will be "torn in the midst of the streets."
public execution-glad he loves everybody so much: I'd hate to see what he'd be capable of if he was a real fucking douchebag
Isaiah 9:19-20 God will make every man kill his brother and then force him to eat "the flesh of his own arm."
cannibalism, dude that's pretty sick
Isaiah 37: 36 Then the angel of the LORD went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.
so the angel killed 185,000 Assyrians, then when the Assyrians woke up they realized they were dead?????? WTF

Re: Man was created in God's image
The Judeans saw the dead Assyrian corpses.
In verse 35, God said he would save the city for His own sake and for the sake of David.
Of course the critical importance of David being preserved was that through his family line the Savior of the world would come -- the Christ.
God moves everything for the sake of the covenant.
Those within the covenant are blessed.
Those outside the covenant -- spiritually captured and cursed.
It's just the way it is.
I didn't make the Word, I'm just a messenger.
Luke 10:8-16
8: And into whatsoever city ye (disciples) enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you:
9: And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.
10: But into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you not, go your ways out into the streets of the same, and say,
11: Even the very dust of your city, which cleaveth on us, we do wipe off against you: notwithstanding be ye sure of this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.
12: But I say unto you, that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom, than for that city.
13: Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon, which have been done in you, they had a great while ago repented, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.
14: But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment, than for you.
15: And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted to heaven, shalt be thrust down to hell.
16: He that heareth you heareth me; and he that despiseth you despiseth me; and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me.

Re: Man was created in God's image
Luke 8:33 Then went the devils out of the man, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake, and were choked.
Jesus drove multiple "devils" from the man and the best he could come up with was to force them to go into a herd of pigs then send the pigs off a cliff to be drowned?
why did god/jesus hate animals?
the bible is filled with passages wherein animals are tortured and killed unmercilessly

Re: Man was created in God's image
When I was young and they packed me off to school
And taught me how not to play the game,
I didn't mind if they groomed me for success,
Or if they said that I was a fool.
So I left there in the morning
With their God tucked underneath my arm -
Their half-assed smiles and the book of rules.
And I asked this God a question
And by way of firm reply,
He said - I'm not the kind you have to wind up on Sundays.
So to my old headmaster (and to anyone who cares):
Before I'm through I'd like to say my prayers -
I don't believe you:
You had the whole damn thing all wrong -
He's not the kind you have to wind up on Sundays.
Well you can excommunicate me on my way to Sunday school
And have all the bishops harmonize these lines -
How do you dare tell me that I'm my Father's son
When that was just an accident of Birth.
I'd rather look around me - compose a better song
'cos that's the honest measure of my worth.
In your pomp and all your glory you're a poorer man than me,
As you lick the boots of death born out of fear.
When I was young and they packed me off to school
And taught me how not to play the game,
I didn't mind if they groomed me for success,

Before I'm through I'd like to say my prayers -
Well you can excomunicate me on my way to Sunday school
