Uh, Sam,

Up until just a year ago, the standard for the Anthem was to stop and face the flag. Anyone in uniform was to offer a salute. Only for the Pledge was one to put their right hand over their heart.

Congress recently addressed the issue and now wants citizens to place their hand over their heart for both. It will take much time to undo scout, military, police, fire, and elementary school teaching to get everyone to put their hands over their hearts for the Anthem.

They're not. The majority of the money that's being doled out is in the form of long term loans that are expected to be paid back at some point in the future.

you know, I've noticed you seem pretty frightened of the "cap and trade" proposal. Why is that?

you know it was done with chlorofluorocarbons (cfc's) back in the 90's and as it turned out, it created a pretty effective profit incentive for companies to innovate and reduce their cfc emissions ...one of the mistakes made in the ’90s with cfc's was that the government simply gave away the intital permits. Obama plans on auctioning them off, which could potentially be a source of public revenue.

Of course, I know that to you and the rest (which essentially consists of about 5% of the entire scientific community) fo the deniers of man made carbon dioxide contribution to global warming will simply push it off as a lot of tosh, but seriously, if something isn't done about it, a large US deficit will be the least of your childrens children's problems.

He's investing heavily into renewable energy sources, and is cutting the subsidies to gas and oil companies (which of course is a definite no-no in the eyes of Republicans)....he's cutting subsidies to farms netting over $500,000 of profit, which should have been done a long time ago...giant corporate farms really don't need the subsidies...

his progressive tax system isn't nearly as drastic as it was in the 40's, 50's and 60's, and like I said, people making over $250,000 are still being taxed at about 10% less under Obama than they were under Reagan....

lots of other benefits...is it expensive, fuckin a it is...but we'll be getting a shitload more bang for our buck than we were under that fucking genesplice that not only got us into a giant clusterfuck that is Iraq, but also ran up a staggering deficit....

but then again I remember you telling me that when Bush was president, that deficits didn't matter....so why are you so worked up about them now?
