Went to Harbor Freight today...

Post by Trampis »

...with the step son to find his mom something for Mothers day. No dice. I did pick up a cable luber and some tarp repair tape. Rack me.

I passed on the electrified fly swatter that looks like a pickleball racket crossed with a tennis racket, the "industrial clock" that looked like a disc brake, the gold anodized dolly wheels...

Anyways, we ended up at a specialty shop to get his mom and mine some expensive vinagrette salad tosser dressing. I bought some BBQ sauce for me. Rack me.

Happy Mothers day you losers.

If ya can't find momma something at harbor freight, too damn bad for her.

My mom probably wouldn't be too thrilled with a HF present either, but, I'm guessing she'd sooner have something from there over a nice bottle of salad tosser dressing. Wasn't aware you could get that stuff out there in god's country. I figured you had to travel to SF or maybe certain NE beach towns for some.

You have got to be kidding! A 99 cent can o' paint ain't worth a damn?!

WTF did you paint with that crap anyway?
The shiney parts on a plow. Flat black looks better then rust. If there ever was a job for cheap paint it would be that, yet Walmart let me down.

Another tool to avoid from Harbor freight is there cheap allen wrench sets, a three year old can twist and bend them. I will give props however to the "5 ball pein hammers for $6" deal. Yeah they get loose, but jeez, 5 hammers for $6!

Before I catch shit for buying cheap tools...from you tools...(thats pretty funny), I keep the good tools in the shed and the cheap ones go in the tractor, pickup, farm motorcycle, where they see environment abuse and possible loss.

Pony up for some rust inhibitive undercoating, ya cheap bastard.

Sometimes that shit goes for like $3 a can, though.

Or, you could cough up the big bucks and get a kit of Carboline Rustbond Epoxy Undercoater, thin it down with some MEK, apply it at about 2 mil WFT (right over the rust), give it a topcoat of some cheap equipment enamel, and be done with it forever.

BTW-the $1.99 multimeter from HF is pretty sweet to throw in the glovey of the work truck... you never know when some hottie is going to be broken down on the side of the road with an electrical problem... and if you can successfully repair a hottie's electrical problem roadside, in many states, it's an affirmative defense against any pending sexual assault charges... always something to think about.

OK, I've never actually done that... but the $2 VOM has been helpful for a couple of work/road emergencies.

Dinsdale,

Serous question. If you were going to re-stain/re-seal a deck (regardless of the presence/non-presence of square-headed deck screws), what product would you use? AP's employer seems heavily invested in Behr, but I know you're not a fan (of Behr, I mean). What would you go with?

The reason I'm not a fan of Behr, is because their products are absolute garbage (and I don't give a fuck what Consumer Reports says... that just reeks of kickbacks). Matter of fact, I knopw people who have made that mistake, and had miserable experiences with the stain/garbage.

The two brands that come to mind are Flood and Superdeck (which has a duck on the label... Quack Quack).

The prep procedure depends on the condition of the wood. If it's completely bare and greyed out, either blast it with a pressure washer (which can leave some "fuzzies" on the wood), or get some wood bleach (Oxy Clean does about the same thing, or Wolman's Deck Cleaner, or whatever they call it).

If you really wanna go nuts, get a dual action sander with some 80 grit, and give it a quick buzz, which doesn't take as long as it sounds).

The important part, is USE OIL BASED STAIN. There's no comparison between the performance of oil and waterborne stain product, regardless what the idiot at At Least I'm Not Him's Palace tells you.

Hope to put up a deck this year. Would like to go with composite decking/vinyl rails, but, the extra $$$$ has me considering PT.

Should I just cough up the extra dough or what.

Yes, I have the permits pulled. No, I will not be using square head deck screws. I plan on going with the tigerclaws or whatever the fukk it is you call those deals that hold the decking down from the sides.

First off, synthetic decking is fucking ugly.

And someone wanna remind me the last time the plastics industry came up with a product that held up to long term UV exposure?

That's right, it was "never."

While I've seen several composite decks that have been down for 10+ years without any readily apparent wear and tear, I'll let you guys go ahead and guina pig that shit.

If you're doing it yourself, regardless which decking you choose, spend the extra time and money and make sure you seal the living fuck out of the tops of the joists. Boggles my mind that people don't do that. Heck, a few years back, a buddy went to a sheet metal shop and had aluminum caps made for the tops of the joists... should keep the Oregon Deck Rot away.

And if you DIY, and use cedar... don't be a typical DIY tard... cut all your pieces to length, AND STAIN THEM BEFORE YOU ATTACH THEM. When given the choice of how many sides of expensive deck boards to stain, it's amazing how many idiots choose to stain/seal one rather than six... mindboggling stupidity.

Look dude, don't include me in on the company line of what you think I believe or know. Eat shit and impress the DIY'ers on another day. I'm sure you must have books published with your DIY knowledge right? You know everything and everything you say is right.

Fuck off dude. You are nothing but an apartment complex handy man.
