I hear Muslims are excellent audio technicians keeping the whole neighborhood a twitter using nothing but garden stones and plastic chairs.

In this difficult economy, sleeper cells are transitioning into tech service cells. Sony be praised.

I did mine in October. I put a Flat Screen LCD on the wall. I bought the Samsung 80 series. It had the best color and warmth of any TV I saw. I put in a Bose system for space. In my old house I had a Denon system, Boston acoustic in-wall speakers and a Velodyne sub woofer. It sounded great but took up a ton of space. The Bose sounds great and was cost effective. The game sound great!

88,

Did you check edmunds.com?

In all seriousness, check cnet.com's home theater section:

http://reviews.cnet.com/surround-sound-buying-guide/

The kind of system you should get depends on room size. My family room is 12 X 20 and because I already had a blu-ray player in a Playstion 3, I went with a mix-n-match entry level set up.

Yamaha RX-V463 525W 5.1-Ch. A/V Home Theater Receiver $300
Polk Audio TSi100 bookshelf speakers (two sets) $200/pair
Polk Audio CS10 center channel speaker $180
Polk Audio PSW110 10" 200W powered subwoofer $250

I purchased all of the above at Best Buy about a year ago for $1,200.

88, couple of questions for you:

Are you going all out on this project, meaning custom job overhead-mounted projector, speakers installed in the walls, audio-video cabinet or are you looking to buy a nice HDTV, BR player, nice speakers and quality receiver/decoder? Or maybe just a HTiB (home theatre in a box) with a combined receiver/DVD player and finve speakers plus sub?

I'd try avsforums.net to get all sorts of information, both newbie and techie, for HDTV's and audio components. You'll also finds lots of threads dealing with custom jobs.

Still running my stereo through a Denon POA-2200, which I bought new in 1986. About 50 lb. worth of power amp, still kicks major ass.
