Upcoming 3rd Gig

Post by buckeye_in_sc »

So we have a gig on August 8th...we are pretty much overhauling a large portion of our set list...adding in some new stuff and here are some of the additions (in part of what I think)...

Stuff I am GEEKED to play:

Enter Sandman - Metallica - love the tune, easy enough and pretty much everyone knows it
I STAND ALONE - Godsmack - very cool drum part and high energy song - probably our new opener
Broken - Amy Lee w Seether - yep we found a chick singer who can hit this...sounds great
Behind Blue Eyes - The Who
Pinball Wizard - The Who
Hanging On A Moment - Lifehouse
Should I Stay Or Should I Go - The Clash
Cumbersome - 7 Mary 3

Stuff I am meh on (this is where screw will tell me to go fuck myself or something)...
Photograph and Animals - Nickelback - hey the crowd that we play to likes these guys so hey...got to put stuff in they like, I really wish we didn't have to play Animals...but oh well
Locomotive Breath - Jethro Tull, I HATE THESE FUCKERS
Blister In the Sun -I hate this fucking song

We have a pretty wide range for the cats in the bar...we have been highly complimented on our range...which is great...

anyfuck...just posting...I'll throw up some vids if we tape again...

please tell me your behind blue eyes cover is better than limp bizkit's. It is quite possibly the worst cover in the history of music.

I agree with you on Blister in the Sun, though.
Yeah, don't sell out to the man. Be true to yourself. Play what you wanna play. So what if it will be in your basement because no one will have you in their place.

Smack - we will be doing the Who cover of Behind Blue Eyes...I might tweak the drum part a little but nothing major...

Other than that we play Jam Rock, or what is popular...hey it scores us some $$$ so if they want to hear Nickelback and stuff that is what we will play...

Actually, I think "Locomotive Breath" is the best song on that list, although I'd personally prefer to play "Hymn 43."

I'd go with "Song for Jeffrey."

Spoken like a true non-musician.

I realize you were being sarcastic, but there's really no such thing as a "smarter audience." The average bar crowd is basically a cross-section of the general public, which we all know to have mostly horrible taste in music. Even if you go to a "smart" band's concert, like, say, Tool, for example, the audience is still comprised mostly of meatheads who'd just as soon be at a Nickelback show.

The sad truth is that if you want to play in a cover band and make a little money at it, you're going to have to play a decent amount of shit songs. The upside is that you'll make way more than you would playing originals, and you can still sneak in the occasional original song or cover that you actually like.

Mike - that is kind of our plan...the lead guitarist and I hate NICKELBACK...but we tolerate it because the bar we play likes the cross section of stuff we play...so we have been able to sneak in stuff we all like and we might start on an original or 2...

Hey we get paid to play some music...I won't and can't argue...do I wish we could nix the Nickleback...sure...but since this is more fun, creative outlet...eh...who gives a fuck

I realize I might get flamed...but I Stand Alone by Godsmack is a very high energy tune that for a drummer is a cool song to play...took me 2 years to get that one in...now will the crowd notice it? Who knows (some will)...but I don't care...I like the drum part...

I've played guitar since 1984. I've sang in different forums since 1998. The difference is, I play what I want, when I want and don't give a damn if I get paid or not. I do it because I love it, not because I want to make other people happy. Here's an example.

http://community.middlebury.edu/~bpyfrom/syd3.asf

It's just a rough mix, a little sample of what will eventually become the centerpiece of an epic album written, produced and recorded by my best friend, myself and possibly 1 other person.

I've always subscribed to the notion that to be truly great, you must lead instead of follow. I also know that crap music doesn't stand the test of time, regardless of genre.

My point was that Buckeye expressed his undying hate for Nickleback yet still feels compelled to play their songs. Of course I was being a little sarcastic. But there's also a fundamental truth attached to that statement. Or as Alister Crowley once said, "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law."

I will not claim to be a music snob. Hardly listen to music at all. You must have put the wrong link in though because what is in that right there is absolutely horrible. The only thing epic that will ever be is an epic fail.

Keep on keeping on... :meds:

Sorry, the Midwestern popped collar set is not exactly my target demo. If you EVER liked any music I produced, I would probably choke on my own vomit. Or did you forget that Aggie song you once tried to get the board to locate for you? Now THAT was horrible.

Wrong. Try again. I went to high school with the guy who sang that song and wanted to send it to some people I know who like country. He had his 15 minutes and their band is now broken up. Not really a fan of any kind of music, but noise is noise.

By the way, didn't you give screwball shit for MGMT? Whatever was in that shit above sounded kinda like some of the shit I heard when I googled up that MGMT stuff. That's just noise, man.

If you think my song sounds even remotely like MGMT, you're either retarded, tone deaf or both.

And if you're "not really a fan of any kind of music", why are you posting here?

I usually "view active topics" on this board. Saw SC's thread awhile back on his other gigs. He's a long time BTPCFB poster so I checked out his videos.

You fucking music snobs who constantly bash what other people enjoy is pathetic. You can lob insults all day at someone else, but as soon as someone else says they don't like something you like you go off on the deep end. Just pathetic.

Irie_Screwgos, leave my crank out of this.

Well yes I do not like Nickelback at all...but the bass player likes em and we try to give stuff we like some equal treatment...granted we will never play a Korn, Pantera, Slipknot, etc song...so I am slowly getting some of the stuff (Godsmack, probably a KISS tune or 2...yeah when I was growing up KISS was my favorite), and some other hard rock shit that I like they might not...

We play to play...we post vids, we don't think we are anything special...the neighbors, locals at the bar we play at really like us...so hey...keep payin me...

Anyhoo...with us adding a rythmn guitarist we have a lot of other stuff opened up now that we didn't before...so that is good...

Indy, going to try to post some videos of the next gig...thanks for viewing...if you are on facebook (PM me and I can point you to our group) that is if you want...

and regardless of Tull I WILL NEVER LISTEN TO THEIR SHIT...sorry...just playing the song the rest of the band digs...nothing more nothing less...

I have in my music collection 100 or so CDs, 400 or so cassettes, about 100 LPs and thousands of digital files. That collection encompasses everything from the Carpenters to Slayer to The Chemical Brothers to Hank Jr. AND Sr. I have in my collection Bob Marley and Beethoven and love both equally. If there is a genre I have not sampled, it is not for lack of effort.

You, on the other hand, claim to "not be a fan of any type of music".

And I am the snob?

Tears Jerry. Tears.

By "not a fan of any type of music" I meant that I do not claim country, rock, pop, symphony, etc. as "the best". Type meaning genre. There's only one genre that I have not found myself liking any of the music I have heard and that is hip-hop. Just not into anything there.

I like a little of everything. I just can't stand when someone like SC mentions he has a cover band and he is criticized for their song choices because music snobs say a particular band he covers is shit. Dude is just having fun and getting paid for it. As a self professed musician, I would think you'd give him props for doing what he loves whether it compares to the fucking NOISE you linked to here or not. Maybe as a "wanna-be" guitarist myself I just don't have the elitist attitude you do as a "musician" yourself. I would fucking love to learn to play the guitar. I just haven't taken the time, nor had the time, to do it.

That's a whole different story. In fact, that's the story I'd stick to. It's one thing to stand your ground against the wishes of some of your audience. But if one of your band mates wants to play it, then you kind of have to play along.

Well I happen to find a whole lot worth listening to in hip hop. Along with the other genres you mentioned.

But I'm the snob?

That's the difference between you and I, BSmack. You like some hip-hop. So be it. That's your thing. I have not heard anything in the hip-hop arena I have liked. To each their own. SC is doing something for fun and for money. And I'd guess mostly for fun. As a "musician", why not support him? Did he give some fucking hint he may be a repulican? That's the only way your lib-ass "musician" persona should give him shit for it.

B - yeah I hear you on you gotta play what guys in the band like...but a lot of the neighbors, etc like Nickleback (not sure why, but I try not to rib them too hard about it)...

hey we just play...I have a bunch of different shit in my collection as well...I mostly gravitate to hard rock, metal, nu metal, and RUSH...I despise a lot of classic rock (honestly)...if I had to name my top say 5 bands or so they would be

Korn
RUSH
Lamb of God
Motley Crue
Metallica

kind of 3 or 4 different genres but hey that's what I rock out on a lot...now the bandmates really only like RUSH out of that list...but hey...their choice...

oh and yes I am republican...

honestly we have gotten a lot of compliments from the bar and many folks about our wide range we play everything from Cream to Bon Jovi to Seether in our sets...good, bad or indifferent I enjoy playing out...nothing more nothing less...
