This is a new list of the Top 10 party schools. One thing I noticed when I saw this list is the correlation between many of these and football players being arrested- especially for alcohol related incidents. A lot of these schools have been high on the Fulmer Cup Standings the last few years. Surprised to see Indiana not on the list. Weren't they #1 a year or 2 ago? Same with Colorado. Iowa has made the list in the past as well, and as we've discussed on here- we've had a lot of alcohol related arrests.
So here's the question.........is it a coincidence that the top party schools tend to finish high in the Fulmer Cup Standings or is there really nothing to it? I see this as a major problem.

Top 10 Schools with a major Frat and Sorority scene.
Top 10 schools with the best quality of life
Top 10 schools where students study the least.
About half are southern schools including LSU, Florida, Florida State, and Georgia. The rest are in the East/Northeast. Not really a big surprise on West Virginia being #1. I have heard that is a TERRIBLE academic school.

For Lefty.....10. University of Iowa (Iowa City)
The 20,000 students get the "best of both worlds" at University of Iowa thanks to "very strong academics" and a student body that likes "to have a lot of fun." As one undergrad explains, "On one hand it's a huge party school, but on the other hand it's very academically challenging." How best to explain what University of Iowa has to offer its students once classes are out? As one student concisely puts it, "great times, amazing friends, awesome partying, chances of a lifetime, no regrets, intense moments and rewarding futures." Iowa City "has a great local music scene" and offers a "plethora of restaurants, shops, nightlife and cultural events." It's no secret that Iowa has a "rather large party scene" with students "heading downtown for happy hour on the weekends." Overall, what binds these Hawkeyes is a "very strong sense of community." That said, when the chips are down, "football games take precedence over everything else" at this "Big Ten school with a smaller campus feel."

http://spotlight.encarta.msn.com/Featur ... t2010.html1. Rice University (Houston, Texas)
You can't understand life at Rice without understanding the residential college system, which many, many students say is "hands down the best thing about Rice." Under the system, "you are placed in a dorm and you live there all four years. It’s great because it gives you another family and allows you to get to know everyone in your college. Rather than having frats or sororities you have to be approved of to join, your college immediately accepts you without question." Each college "has developed its own personality, traditions and completely student-led government." The residential college system helps, as it "ensures a lot of mixing among different majors, races, interests and geographic origins. People are similar enough and smart enough and have enough converging interests to make good friends with each other." Students are equally enthusiastic about Rice's "wet campus" policy, under which "you can have alcohol in your room, you can drink it at the pub, and you can drink it at on campus public parties." While this results in "a fairly large drinking culture" on campus, "there are also tons of people who don't ever drink." Students make it clear that "there's something for everyone at Rice, and there's very little pressure to enter a sphere of activity that makes you uncomfortable."

I'm way too lazy to crunch the numbers myself, but I would guess that you'd find a stronger correlation between drinking arrests and the size of the town the school is located in. Bored, small-town cops could have just as much, if not more, to do with a high rate of drinking arrests than a school's reputation for being a party school.
