yea, i'm just going to have to disagree with the top 5.
1. Carrol
2. Meyer
3. Stoops
4. Brown
5. Tressel
then Saban at 6.
seriously..until Saban at least wins the SEC he shouldnt be top 5.
i'm really hoping that Nutt's job (forgive the pun) at Ole Miss isnt a one year wonder and that he's really got something there. I'd love to see them crash the west year in and year out.

Really, Tressel in the top 5 ???
Whenever he or the Big 10 leaves the conference they get blown out.
The fluke in south florida... remains as such.

He's at least getting to those games, which is more than Tedford can say...and Tedford's got the fastest and sickest talent in America, apparently.Whenever he or the Big 10 leaves the conference they get blown out.
He also won a title, which is something Tedford will never claim. Sorry toolio, but success isn't measured by obscure box score statistics and offseason message board posturing.

Pssst... Cal plays a round robin... EVERY TEAM IN THE CONFERENCE....
... then they play a majority of their OOC games against the "big boy" conferences.... not Maine, Southern Ohio western technical.
As a thread that I started was ignored for its relevance and "truth"... I find the scum coming in on this thread.

Re: Southern Pigskin top 25 coaches
So, Tedford and his 1 Pac 10 co-championship, zero BCS bowl wins, and zero BCS bowl appearances rates ahead of Tressel?
Yeah, that's reasonable.
Yeah, that's reasonable.
Re: Southern Pigskin top 25 coaches
I'm putting Saban, Stoops and Mack Brown ahead of Tressell, in that order.
My criteria has to do with black and white numbers, yes, but also with the simple question: I need to win this game, or this championship...who do I want coaching my team?
I'm taking Stoops over Mack Brown because Stoops has beaten Brown like a drum, head to head. I'm taking Saban over Stoops because I don't like Stoops in big games, outside his his own conference. In a one game situation, I like Saban to beat Stoops.
Carroll and Urban Meyer, I can't put either one above the other. 1 and 1A.
If we're going to talk conference titles, national titles, overall records, etc, then JoePa and Bowden both have to be way the fuck higher on this list. There are guys on that list (Beamer, Grobe, Richt, Tedford, Ferentz, etc) who have done next to nothing, relatively speaking, and you're going to put them above Joe freaking Paterno?
Not me.

I know you're from the Midwest.. and have shit for brains... since I never mentioned Tedford being better than anyone.MgoBlue-LightSpecial wrote:So, Tedford and his 1 Pac 10 co-championship, zero BCS bowl wins, and zero BCS bowl appearances rates ahead of Tressel?
Yeah, that's reasonable.
I just mentioned that the PAC 10 plays around 3 games a year that the other conferences wouldn't touch.
Not to mention... they play every team in conference.
Could you imagine....
Cal playing Maine, Northern Siberia, the Citadel, and Southeastern New Mexico.... while.... NEVER!!!!!!!
Playing Oregon and U$C on their way to the PAC 10 title.... ?????????????????????
The Big 12... Big 10.... and SEC do it EVERY YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's why the PAC 10 has a winning RECORD against EVERY BCS conference in the country since the year 2000.
It's simply the BEST.

Re: Southern Pigskin top 25 coaches
What points? They're all unrelated to the topic of this thread, of course, which is about ranking cfb's coaches. I think the Pac 10 (and the Big East) have the most legitimate regular season format in the country. The logistical framework of the Pac 10, however, doesn't magically make its teams more talented than everybody else's. There's no definitive way to measure such a thing, anyway, since conferences are cyclical; from a decade to decade basis, year to year basis; whatever the case may be. Plus it's not really about conference vs conference, it's about match ups and specific team vs specific team. There's a reason why transitive theories (which you love so much) aren't worth a bag of stale dog shit. Because football is about specific match ups.
He'll, there's no definitive way to measure the nation's top coaches either - it's all up for debate. So let's see your top 10.

..clever, kinda.
The PAC 10 is the only Conference that doesn't play Maine, the Citadel, eastern coastal Carolina, and Northern Illinois....
It's just above that shit as an institutional control.
Now you know why the PAC 10 has the best record against any conference in college football since 2000 .
Who gives a shit about coaches when they play Arkansas State, Western Kenfucky, and North Tejas...
Owen Todd could beat these teams as a coach... while in his drunkin' stupor.

Ok "foolio," listen "up," you Midwestern "HICK..."
I know you couldn't grasp logic if it poked through your armor and rammed you up the renhole, but try to pay attention RRRRREAL closely:
1) You said the Pac 10 doesn't play teams like "Maine, the Citadel, eastern coastal Carolina, and Northern Illinois...."
2) I provided an example from a Pac 10 team, your team, that IS playing a team like "Maine, the Citadel, eastern coastal Carolina, and Northern Illinois...."
3) MSU could have the worst schedule in the nation, and it wouldn't negate points number 1 and 2.
4) That makes you a fucking idiot.
Do you understand or do you need further assistance?

Shit for brains... Cal took on eastern Washington... when a school bailed out at the last minute.

This could be a major contributor to why you live in Naperville, Iowa.

Wow...just wow...
Let's see...
Tressel 3 BCS Championship games with 1 win...Tedford 0 um 3>0...advantage Tressel
Tressel 4 straight Big 10 titles advantage Tressel
OSU with many more 1st round picks than Cal advantage Tressel and OSU...
fuck off...I can't wait until 2012 and 2013...when we gang rape that shitty squad all over the SHoe and strawberry fields...oh and by the way make sure the Cal team arrives in Columbus 2 weeks prior to the game so they can acclimate to the time change...oh and at least OSU in recent times hasn't lost to a ACC team...
Fucking Maryland...I still can't stop laughing...

Re: Southern Pigskin top 25 coaches
I think most of us will agree that the top 2 on the list are non-debatable. 3 thru 6, I'd say there's a legit argument for Tressel, Stoops, Brown & Saban in any order based on their numbers and personal opinion about their respective competition. To question one over the other at first glance without a decent take, you're either a homer or a complete babbling, chime-swallowing idiot.
Coach Overall FBS % Team % Crystal Footballs BCS wins/appearances Bowl Record Conf Titles
Tressel 81.4% 81.4% 1 3/6 4-4 5

But, but wait a minute...Tedford with those HUGE BCS wins...oh wait no he hasn't won one...or been to one...wait with all those Holiday Bowl and Emerald Walnut Bowl and Armed Forces Bowl wins has to count for something plus the tradition of 1000 yard rushers since oh 2002 has got to count for more and the fact that they have beaten Maryland...oh wait fuck it...
The best cased for Tedford is he and Urban Meyer are best friends...well if that isn't the top reason to put Tedford #1 I don't know what is...

Re: Southern Pigskin top 25 coaches
Nobody cares about your excuses. You said Cal doesn't play "those teams," yet one of "those teams" is on your schedule. Bottom line, you made a claim that you couldn't back up and now you're spinning like I said you would.Blueblood wrote:Shit for brains... Cal took on eastern Washington... when a school bailed out at the last minute.
Likewise, MSU scheduled Montana St because Hawaii backed out last minute. But if you've got a link to refute that...be my guest and link me up, sporto. I'll be waiting. You losers picked 4 gimmes on purpose...
As of last year, MSU was one of 5 remaining D1 teams which had yet to play a d1-aa school; a streak that out-lasted Cal -- you know, one of the schools that doesn't schedule "those teams." So in knowing that, you think they originally set out to break that streak and play Montana St? Please.
That being said, even as it applies to MSU...NOBODY CARES. The fact is Montana St IS on the schedule, it looks bad, and they should be held accountable. There's no two ways about it.
As for Central and Western, I'm not a fan of playing two directional schools in one season, but EVERYBODY plays directional schools at one time or another, and it gets much worse than playing these two. They're both pretty competitive, have been for awhile, both played in bowl games last year, and both have excellent qbs. I doubt you've heard of either one of them.
You're scoffing at Notre Dame? Seriously? Ok, that's just not even worth responding to...

Re: Southern Pigskin top 25 coaches
i'm not going to search for it but m2's "excuse"for Eastern Washington is a last minute drop out by someone else (which we are supposed to take on faith)......i'd be interesting if in one of his "epic" smackdowns of the Big XII or OU or non-Cal/non- Pac 10 OOC patsies he didn't bring it for OU playing Chattanooga....which was exactly the same scenario. i'm sure he'd have taken that as a plausible, excusable rationale back then.
not that hypocrisy or a double-standard are unbroken ground....

Re: Southern Pigskin top 25 coaches
the guy on this list that causes me to raise an eyebrow is Houston Nutt. sure, he was good to a little better than good at Arkansas* and had a nice year (even with an L to Vandy) for Ole Miss in year 1 with Orgeron's top 25 classes....but, in toto, #13? really? 3 places out of the top 10? maybe if he wins 9-10 games this year you could make the case for a guy who's been successful at two SEC programs and been a winner. not an elite coach, IMO. he's a guy who thus far wins you 6-9 games. no BCS appearances, no conference titles that i can remember. closer to Glen Mason (KU and Minny) than Lester Miles or even Gary Barnett (who won the Big Ten and the Big XII).

[quote="Moby Dick"]1. Urban Meyer, Florida - Luckiest coach in CFB at least
2. Pete Carroll, Southern Cal - easiest job in the history of jobs
3. Nick Saban, Alabama - Agreed. Would even agree with #1. Still an asshole though
4. Mack Brown, Texas - Hahahaha! I like Mack as a person and he's a decent coach, but come on now....
5. Bob Stoops, Oklahoma - Okay
6. Jim Tressel, Ohio State - Agreed.
7. Frank Beamer, Virginia Tech - Yeah, okay, I can live with this
8. Jim Grobe, Wake Forest - Give me a couple more good seasons and maybe but not yet
9. Mark Richt, Georgia - Should be higher. Underrated coach
10. Les Miles, LSU - Ahahahahahahahaha! This tard? Pssshtt........please!
11. Paul Johnson, Georgia Tech - Agreed
12. Mike Leach, Texas Tech - You have got to be kidding me. He's a notch above Ron Zook
13. Houston Nutt, Ole Miss - Should be higher. Underrated coach
14. Kirk Ferentz, Iowa - Should be higher. Funny how everyone considered him a Top 5 coach 3 years ago. He must have forgotten how to coach.
15. Chris Petersen, Boise State - Definitely. Great coach. Maybe even higher
16. Jeff Tedford, California - What the fuck has he ever done?
17. Greg Schiano, Rutgers - Okay
18. Joe Paterno, Penn State - Historically as good as they come. Still think this might be low for him even now
19. Tom O'Brien, NC State - I dunno about this high. He's okay, not great
20. Mike Riley, Oregon State - No fucking way
21. Gary Patterson, TCU - Sounds about right. Maybe a bit too high
22. Jim Leavitt, South Florida - Easily as underrated as they come. No one has done as amazing of a turnaround as he has
23. Bobby Bowden, Florida State - Not anymore. He's not even Top 50 anymore.
24. Steve Spurrier, South Carolina - Low, he should be higher. That's a tough gig at South Cakalaki. You can't win there
25. Kyle Wittingham, Utah - Maybe a little low, very good coach

Since when is 4 of 7 years in the Top 20 at a school with virtually no in-state talent mediocre????Sudden Sam wrote:Maybe producing consistently mediocre teams has something to do with it.TheJON wrote: 14. That, and the fact that nobody besides Jon ever thought of Kirk Ferentz as a Top 5 coach. Not now, not 3 years ago, not when he was hired.Sudden Sam wrote:Maybe producing consistently mediocre teams has something to do with it.TheJON wrote: 14. Kirk Ferentz, Iowa - Should be higher. Never. He's Kirk Ferentz, coach of an irrelevant Iowa team. A coach of Iowa doesn't even enter into such discussions. If he were Top 5, he wouldn't be at Iowa.
Then there's what he's actually done at Iowa, which hasn't been squat. He's never won the conference (nobody gives a shit about "co-champs," not when Ohio St is the other "co-champ," and they're off playing for national titles), he's never won a BCS bowl game, and he got destroyed in the only one he's been in.
Nebraska, ND and OU aren't exactly brimming with in-state talent either, and they've managed to do just fine over the years...by recruiting out of state. Iowa's excuse is just that...an excuse.
Ferentz and his teams aren't mediocre, but they're not much above it, either. Other than for his paycheck, there has certainly never been any reason to even put him in the Top 10 coaches.
Kirk Ferentz, Top 5? Comedy.
