To qualify for the "Cash for Clunkers" rebate, you must have an eligible used vehicle that you are willing to trade in for a new, more fuel-efficient vehicle.
Dumbass.

Uh, stupid, why do you insist on being dumb? The point was not carping about buying luxury items. The point is confiscating my income so that others can buy new cars and not onyl just new cars, but very expensive new cars at that.

Try thinking before posting.

That's right. We shouldn't be helping rich people buy cars. We should just reduce their taxes.

I wonder how many of those models have actually been bought under the program.

Now now. Let's not start introducing pesky facts into the mix. You're liable to make Cuda's head explode. Let's stick to the talking points from your neighborhood multinational grass roots organization.

This is all so enlightening.

I think I'll take my F250 in tomorrow and trade it in on a Lotus. I wonder how much camping gear I'll be able to stuff in there.

Fucking morons. But typical.

It doesn't matter whether any have been purchased under the program.

The program confiscates money from me (well, my kid's kids' $$$) to buy Hummers, Lotus's, etc. for people today under a program that was intended to "help Detroit."

Instead, what we got was a program where 6 in 10 cars sold under thsi program are foreign vehicles and my $$$ being paid for losers to buy nice new vehicles.

Props, I guess.

Dude, chill out. You won't have to pay for it. It will be indy, 88 and the handful of other rich dudes. Barry already told us we weren't on the hook for any of it.

I'm assuming that you make under 250K, of course.

so do you consider Honda, Toyata, Suburu to be "foreign" vehicles
(considering the fact they've got numerous manufacturing plants here in the US)

They are foreign owned ?? Right

That would make them foreign then..duh...

Maybe some numbers on domestic versus foreign sales on the CFC program ?

so you're saying that all of the people these plant hire and pay are shipping their money back to Japan? and these guys aren't paying property taxes on the land there manufacturing plants sit on....and they are not paying social security taxes into the coffers of the respective state they reside in?

what about all the american car dealers that sell them, are they all stocked with foreign labor?

tell you what, as soon as Ameican companies start building cars that can hold a candle to Japanese engineering, maybe more americans would start buying american brand cars....but Toyota, honda and suburu build lots of cars in the us

The problem isn't american engineering vs jap engineering. There are 2 major parts to it. American bean counters have tied the hands of american engineers. Fortunately, they have come to the realization that this is killing them and they have improved the situation. The other, more important part is the UAW's stranglehold on the big three which the foreign makers have avoided by treating their works well. This problem has been addressed somewhat in that even the UAW realizes that if they squeeze their golden goose too hard, it will eventually croak.

Personally, I don't see much difference in buying a Ford or a Hyundai, assuming a decent chunk of it was produced here and it was completely assembled here. I do, however have a really big problem with asking my grandkids to subsidize my new car purchases.

They are foreign vehicles. However, I understand that they produce vehicles here in the US.

But, of course, you deliberately ignore the central point in this plan...help Detroit. The purchase of those vehicles do not help Detroit in any way.

I argue nearly everyday that those firms are as American as the Big Three given their extensive operations located right here in the US. But, again, Obama and the Dems sold this as a plan to help the Big Three, no?

you can't help those that won't help themselves....Detroit kicked their own asses by producing pieces of shit that nobody wants....by the time they realized they were being subverted by the imports, it was too late.....yeah I recognize that japanese firms hold a distinct advantage insofar as labor costs go, but now that the UAW has a stake in maintaining there own well being, I'd be willing to bet they're a little more pliable insofar as wages and bene's are concerned....

First, don't preach to me about helping Detroit. It's not the government's role to help Detroit...not in the 80s and certainly not now.

Second, the only reason the UAW gets that shot is because the fed govt was attempting to help Detroit. You're essentially saying that Detroit did not deserve the help but good thing they did so the union gets a shot at running the firm. Which begs the questions...what fucking expertise does the UAW have running a business? Of course, it doesn't. That's why it has said it's off-loading its interests in GM ASAP.
sure that would be the ideal...maybe they should have excluded "foreign" cars from the deal
Maybe.

Maybe also, the program never should have been created.

Has anyone given any thought about what will happen to the new car market after this CFC joke runs out? Or will barry just keep the presses running and extend it indefinitely.

As for the ridiculous assertion that this will help the environment, all I have to say is...bwaaaaahhhhh.

Grinding up old cars takes energy.

Building new cars takes energy.

Will those driving new efficient cars use less?

Maybe.

My guess is they will end up driving the fukking things more since they get better mileage. This does not apply to all, but, it sure as hell does apply to many. It's econ 101. Lower the price of something and more will get used. It is a fact. Aside from economics, there is the "lets go for a ride in our cool new car" factor. If you have an old POS, you are less likely to do this.

So you don't get fucked on the value of the car like all the former " clunker" owners just did this week ??

But we got a rebate !!

And to the dealer and scrapper who trashed a perfectly good 92 Fox body 5.0 Mustang yesterday on Fox Business---go fuck yourself...I could have bought and sold that car within an hour for more than the rebate money you got you fucking dickheads.
The fact that the Vanilla Ice version of the Mustang sells for more than 4500 anywhere is a fucking crime. What an absolute travesty. Eternal racks to Obama for getting that shit off our roads.

He doesn't have a problem with anyone buying luxury items, dumbass. He has a problem with his kids bankrolling it. So do I.

I also have a problem with this 8000 subsidy in buying houses.

Be interesting to see how busy those car dealers are next week after folks have to actually pay for their own rigs.

I suspect they will be even more deserted than they have been.

Of course this yo yoing of demand is gonna fukk over the production schedule of the car makers, but, I'm sure barry will have an answer to that as well.
