Haha! JMak seems eerily familiar to Vag with his clueless comments- hmmm.....wonder why that is. Actually, Phil Steele is by FAR the best prognosticator. When someone like Athlon or ESPN says something positive or negative about my team I don't take it seriously. Especially with ESPN. But Steele has proven he knows his shit and is the best of the best. So when I heard him say that I imediately pulled over to the side of the road and booked my plane ticket to Pasadena. And yes, I'd be perfectly happy with our season ending in a beatdown in a BCS Bowl like Bama. It sure beats the fuck out of going to Shrevport or some other shit bowl game even if you win.

Haha........Whatever you say Van. I'm far from a Ferentz "slappy". I'm actually very critical of Kirk on many occasions. It's funny how people here see me as a Ferentz apologist yet my Iowa buddies see me as a Ferentz hater. I laugh at both. I am neither. I like Kirk, he's a good coach. But he has some flaws that I feel have cost us at times. On the other hand, I think there have been times if Kirk wasn't our coach we wouldn't have been as good as we were. One thing is certain, I respect the shit out of the guy. However, I've been openly critical of him on this board MANY times.

My point must have gone right on past you. I was saying I'd rather get thumped in a BCS bowl then winning a shit bowl. Of course I'd like to win a BCS Bowl.........who wouldn't? But winning any bowl game (other than the national title) isn't really that big of a deal. It doesn't help you win your conference or a national title, so until we get a playoff system the postseason is more about having a good time in a nice destination than winning a football game. I've been to 5 or 6 bowl games and I care more about the atmosphere at the game and the week leading up to the game in the city the game is located than I do about seeing Iowa win.

Going to the BCS isn't success????????????????? Okay, so what is "success" then? 119 teams, 1 team wins a national title. Only 1 team had a successful year? If that's the case, then every program is HORRIBLE because the record for national title's is somewhere around 10........in 100 or so years of playing CFB. So that means even the most successful program wins a title 1 in 10 years and most either never win one or win one every 20 years or so.

Everyone keeps saying Iowa has some sort of brutal schedule. I disagree. But what is it.........Iowa's got a tough schedule or they have a weak ass schedule? What I do know is this.......the so-called experts are predicting Iowa 4th or 5th in the Big-10 because of our alleged brutal schedule. If Iowa somehow manages to make their way to the top of the conference, these same dolts will be crying about how easy of a schedule we played. I see this kinda shit all the time.

Northern Iowa: Pathetic cupcake. A directional Iowa school?? It doesn't get much more pathetic than this. They're not even D1. This game alone should automatically eliminate Iowa from BCS bowl consideration; or, as stated before, it should at least not count on Iowa's W-L record. Exhibition games played against teams from the minor leagues should not count on a team's record. This goes for all teams, not just Iowa. W

@ Iowa State: Cupcake number two, OOC. W

Arizona: Were this one in the desert, it'd be something. I'm assuming this one's a home and home series, so props to Iowa for at least scheduling a home and home with a BCS conference school besides perennial doormat Iowa St. Of course they scheduled one of the Pac 10's weaker programs, but hey, at least it's not another Northern Iowa. W

@ Penn State: What happened down through the years in this series doesn't matter now. PSU lost last year, and they're not losing the return match-up in front of a white out. L

9-3, without a single impressive win. They then get a second tier New Year's day bowl game, in an era where only one New Years day bowl game means anything, and Iowa ain't about to ever play in that one, not under Kirk Ferentz. Maybe they win some other nothing bowl game, though.

So, 9-4, or 10-3, depending on how they do in their bowl game with some SEC flunkey.

Just win the games they should, with that schedule, and they've had a "great year." Truly, the stuff of legends.

how does the Big 10 bowl sequence work? Rose/BCS, CapOne, Outback, Alamo?

i could see an 8-4 Iowa team playing Texas Tech or one of the North teams that's on the downside of the inevitable tiebreaker in that division. KU is the best team (probably) but have the most difficult schedule vs. the South or maybe NU (new QB vs. Reesing at KU).....but CU gets MU, KU, and NU in Boulder so the schedule favors the Buffs while hopes are high around here...not many other people are seeing the same thing. but, i think 8 wins gets CU in about Alamo territory.

right, Alamo is another "4th/5th bowl" for the Big 10 (vs. Big XII) as well....depending on the Gator business for the XII which i learn and forget every year and BCS slots. my CU board troll has CU vs. Sparty in the Alamo in the pre-season predict pool. though, the "real me" thinks CU is more like an Indy/Insight/Sun Bowl type team

I hate to agree with Jonsense but truthfully if you don't know who Phil Steele is then you're ignorant to college football analysts. Dude is $$$ on his predictions most of the time. Man has been the most accurate when predicting the outcomes of coolege football seasons weeks in advance for years. Blows those other shit mags such as Lindy's and Athlon out of the water.

As far as Big Ten schedules go, yeah, they do. How many other teams play road games at Penn St, Ohio St, Michigan St, and Wisconsin. I don't care about some of their recent successes against those teams, those games are still much harder than playing Indiana and Minnesota on the road.

No team in the Big Ten and few BCS teams nationally has a tougher conference road schedule than the Hawkeyes, who were ranked 21st in the preseason Coaches' Poll.

Sept. 26: at Penn State
Oct. 17: at Wisconsin
Oct. 24: at Michigan State
Nov. 14: at Ohio State

Those four teams had a combined record of 37-15 last year and went 24-4 on their home fields. When a trip to Camp Randall Stadium looks like the easy game, you know it's a rough road.

Plus, two of those games are night games (PSU and MSU).

You see, I completely agree with that 100%.

That said, I am actually worried shitless about the Arizona game. They're a quality team and right between the ISU and Penn State road games. At the risk of baiting m2 into a Pac-10 homer response......I think Arizona just might come into Kinnick and beat Iowa. On top of it being a trap game, I can guarantee you Stoops has this one circled much like Dirk Koetter did in 2004. Hell, ASU openly admitted to spending a lot of time in the offseason preparing for Iowa and I'm sure Arizona will do the same.

That Arizona game is a lot tougher than some of our conference road games and ANY of our other home games. Would not be surprised to see an ambush.
