Denver @ San Francisco Game In Progress thread
This preseason tilt features two teams in the midst of transition. Either franchise has a legit shot at winning their respective division this year.
Should be interesting for a first preseason game.

Dungver has a legit shot at going 2-14, imo.
COMPLETE trainwreck, they are.
Re: Denver @ San Francisco Game In Progress thread
Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice Shaun Hill to Vernon Davis connection for 20+ yards. Nice zip on the ball and decent RAC.
And then the 9er's give up a sack. Good yob Dumervil.
Then ANOTHER big completion to V Davis!
Good Hill scramble.

The AFC West was won by an 8-8 team last year. In the last game of the season. The team they beat to win the division, the Donks, also finished 8-8. I'd rather not get into how the other teams in the West fared. I'm not going to tout all that is great about the Donks... the idea that they're a possible division contender involves how wide open the division is.

Donks with Orton look pretty sharp. Royal gots mooooves.
Re: Denver @ San Francisco Game In Progress thread
So far neither defense has shown much, but the 9er D is getting the worst of it so far. The Donk D gave up a field goal.... which, considering how utterly fugly they were last year is a win.
Just as I type that, Orton intercepted in the endzone! Great corner play by Clements.

The AFC West is way down, velo, no doubt.
But look ...
Gay Cuntler > Kyle Orton
Rat face > Pube kid
Both Coach and QB have been downgraded, imo.
Then ask Felix how the off-season has gone for his Dungver Donkeys.
Murphy's Law.
They won't compete this year, even in the "down" West.
Bank it.

ANOTHER Orton interception would of course add weight to your contention. Bwa.
(Alex Smith ain't showing much right now.)
If preseason is any guide, I'm pretty sure my 'Skins will finish worse than all four AFC West teams.
Last night's reaming courtesy of the Ravens was far worse than the final score indicates. Starters not playing is no excuse.
Re: Denver @ San Francisco Game In Progress thread
Orton intercepted a 3rd time... Alex Smith redeems himself with a wide open touchdown the next play... and the 9ers miss the point after... doh!

9-0 Niners..... lets head off to the half.
Wow, the Broncos are really bad.
I must mention that the Raider game last night was put on tape delay here in the San Francisco bay area.... and was seen after the game was completed.
When the 49ers play in the Bay Area.. the game is covered LIVE!!!
The Bay Area... will ALWAYS be.... Niner Country

I'm sure your top corner, Assholemugger or whatever will look forward to padding his INT stats at the new Donk QB's expense, Pops.
The last time I watched a Denver-9er preseason game, it was a rematch of the previous season's Superbowl. The 9er's annihilated the Donks 55-10 in the SB, and the Donks were determined to get revenge in that preseason game. Elway played the whole first half and then...lol... came out for the second half to try to score against 9er scrubs!
I guess that show of frustration is understandable, because Elway and Reeves were coming off their 3rd SB beatdown.
9ers rb Coffee showing a little sumpin'.

Word on the street here in "The City".... is his play has come up less than what was expected. It's kinda showing.
Gore would have already have had over 100 yards. (That's what you get when you take an SEC running back in the first 3 rounds) over the last 8 years.

There's something to that bolded part. I mean, on one of those deece runs I would say he hit the hole with a good burst except there was no "hole" there... the Donk defenders were pushed so far out of the picture that there weren't any for him to be running through.

Simms looks pretty good. Nice TD pass. Brandon Lloyd on the Donks now.
I remember when the 'Skins got fleeced in the Lloyd acquisition. m2 on this very board said good riddence to bad trash.
He posted a .gif of Brandon shielding himself and ducking a ball thrown to him.
m2 knew more than the 'Skins FO and Gibbs on that score.
Sure m2 sees a lot of smack thrown his way, but when he nailz something, that should be pointed out as well.
Rack him on that call.

I don't remember the '81 SB defense too well. The '84 and '88 versions were of course SB quality but for sure the '89 and '94 squads need to be in the mix any time an "All-Time Defense" list comes under discussion.

While the Niners could score upon anyone at will.... they had a tendency to play games where they won games during the regular season by a couple of points in each game.velocet wrote:.m2 wrote:The D looks like bend dont break... which I'm good with. Then they would lay the wood in the playoffs....
It's how the Niners have always rolled....

One last thing .m2:
Realignment kinda busted up the NFC West. The only division rival left for you from the old way is the Rams.
Care or not?
The only thing that realignment did to my division was take the Cards out and put 'em in yours. I didn't care about that; they weren't much in the way of rivals. Hell, I'd root for them everytime they played the eagles, giants and 'boys. I'd be pretty pissed if the rest of the East were broken up more than that.

Realignment was coming anyway. We all knew it.
And it wasn't exactly a secret that both the Falcons and the Saints -- particularly the Falcons -- wanted out of the NFC West. Geographically, it didn't make much sense for either of them to be there. And neither was ever good enough on anything approaching a consistent basis to be a true rival.
Realignment being a fait accompli, it was a no-brainer that the Cardinals, following their relocation to Arizona, would be coming to the NFC West. The Seahawks were an interesting choice as the other team. It was a homecoming of sorts for them -- recall that the Seahawks were in the NFC West for their inaugural season, before they swapped conferences with Tampa Bay. Factor in that they wanted to come to the NFC West, as well as the common coaching lines (Holmgren, et al.) and it seems to be a good fit.
The Lambs were an old-school rivalry, and it made sense to continue that, although an argument can be made, from a geographic standpoint, that they no longer belong in the NFC West having relocated to St. Louis.
On the whole, realignment was good for the NFL, although they could've done a better job with it.

Guntler didn't look any better vs the Bills. Interception #2 was right in the defender's hands with nobody within 3 yards- and he drops it. Guntler didn't play long enough to try for #3
I don't look for Guntler to have as good a record in Chicago as Orton had last year.

Yeah, your input was wanted, of course, you kiddin'? I just wanted to hear from 9er fan some years after the fact if the loss of those rivalries was any big deal. Thanks!

Simms didn't strike me as being too awful. But hey, wanna trade Orton and Simms for Campbell and Collins? I'd pull the trigger on that in a second.

the first int Cutler underthrew the ball severely then started blaming Devon Hester for not "running to the ball"
while I know Denver is going to suck monkey cack this year, I'll be laughing my ass off when the Chicago faithful turn on Cuntler-which they will...of course, they don't recognize that in order to be a good QB, you have to actually have people to throw it to, but that won't stop the Bears fans and newspapers from torching Guntler relentlessly.....what a fucking wastewad

Simms actually didn't look half bad (although he was going against the second and third teamers)
