What team (out of your division) do you pull for?
What team (out of your division) do you pull for?
Velo got me interested in your takes. What team(s) that aren't your own do you pull for? Is it okay to do this? Have a second team after your own you hope wins? To me it's not only ok it's highly enjoyable. It's probably not surprising I root for the Saints right now.
Re: What team (out of your division) do you pull for?
None. Silver and Black forfucking EVER.
The only way i'd pull for another team is if they helped us in the divisional standings by thumping a rival.

Well, thanks for the attribution, trevortime!
-Is it ok?
It's purely subjective how, why and to what extent one enjoys the NFL. That said, bandwaggoning is very much frowned upon when one tries to argue a take from that perspective.
I began my 'like affair' with the Chiefs in 1989, the year they went 8-7-1 and started showing a little something with a power running game and brutal defense. The native american theme was another factor, plus the fact that to that point there wasn't much of a possibility of a hostile rivalry. The way scheduling was done then, I think the 'Skins played the Chiefs like 2 times in the whole decade of the '80s.
I couldn't personally have a second favorite in the NFC... but coming up when I did the AFC was a whole different league, inter-conference regular season play and the Super Bowl notwithstanding.
When the game is Chiefs vs. Redskins, there's no way I root against the 'Skins. Ain't happening.
So... why, overall? I'm an NFL fukking junkie, so I kinda get 2 seasons in one that way.![Mr. Green ](./images/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif)
Have I ever gone to a sports bar so I can watch a Chiefs game? More than a few times, rest assured.
Have I ever run football smack as though a Chiefs fan? NEVER.

I'm sure I've seen Toostoned voice the same thing as Pops and RJ. Not surprised in the least. Should R-Jack chime in I predict the same reaction.
That has a lot to do with Raider Nation mentality. They have the function of being the faction that counts itself as the most hardcore, badass and "us against the WORLD." They will win it all every year.
I doubt any of them ever "divide" their loyalty as they see it, likely despise those who do, and would with great vengeance in their hearts pounce on any Raider fan "liking" any other team on a regular basis. And would surely pummel any fan of another team "liking" the Raiders. The cutthroat crew has no time for that.
The question becomes: do they hate on those of us not having any affection for Raider Nation who might have a second favorite? It's moot because they hate everyone else with an intensity anyway so who gives a rats ass what might be regarded as a reason.
The NFL is better for that whole Raider phenomenon; I just wish the Silver and Black on the field the last 6 years would have made the grade competitively to better sustain the pitbull thugocracy aura.
Philly Nation just fronts: they wish they could have the true swagger of those guys.

Re: What team (out of your division) do you pull for?
What you said is pretty much true, velo.
Perhaps there might be some very young Raider fans who can find it within themselves to "root" for another team, also, but any Raider fan who's felt the very tangible history of the league setting itself against the Raiders can find NO desire to cheer for anyone but the Silver and Black.
It's the Raiders v. the league, as far as I'm concerned.
I like certain players more than others.
And in a given year, I can "like" a certain team more than another.
But really, I never find myself actively cheering for a team other than Oakland.

Re: What team (out of your division) do you pull for?
One thing that Raider Nation catches hell for is the fans who show up in Oakland on game day in that wicked ass gear. Skull and crossbone chic featuring chains, armor and implements of hand to hand warfare.
Without getting into any specific critiques of the elements of individual style, that whole exhibition frankly rocks.

I don't pull for any other team other than the Giants. I will follow other teams that have players that played at USF and hope that they do well indvidually (with the exception of those who play in the NFC East).

Living where I live, it's nearly impossible to follow sports and not keep abreast of the Bills. I don't have anything against them per se, but the breathless 15-minute updates (so-and-so was just spotted in his driveway changing the oil in his car, your next update update in 15 minutes, because YOU NEED TO KNOW -- errr, no I don't) keep me from being a true fan of the team.

During certain games or playoffs you never find yourself pulling for one team or another? Every game you watch you are just indifferent?poptart wrote:

I pull for the teams and/or players that...
a. I bet on or picked to win
b. have on my fantasy team
c. are playing a divisional opponent
d. have former Mizzou players
which quite likely means that during any given NFL game, I've got a vested interest in the action and result.

Not so hard, Trev.
I jock every team outside the West that plays the West. I root for THIS scenario each and every year:
Elwayville: 0-16
alRaida: 2-14
San Temecula: 4-12
Not hard to fathom the breakdown - Though I DO have a rooting interest in Shamu eating that arrogant, whining. flaming pile of shit you Losers currently have at quarterback.

Re: What team (out of your division) do you pull for?
Hell, I'm a Titans fan, but I pull for a team WITHIN the division (kinda). We got, as a family, 20 season tix to the Colts. Not always guaranteed a seat. I'll make 6-7 home games a year. Anyhow, I go and root for the Colts as long as the Titans aren't affected by the result of the game. Even if they are, I pretend to care about them by faking the rooting while deep down hoping they fail. ANd no matter the Titans situation, I always root for MY team when they roll into town.

I can't thnk of any team I actually root for unless it's to ruin somebody else's week
I'll usually take Anybody vs the Chefs, Chargers, Seahawks, Giants, Colts, & Bears
